Chat Window Guide

Does the new chat window system have you scratching your head? Then check out this guide from the Herald:
Your Default Setup:
When you log into the game, you will see two windows. The bottom window is your Main window. The window on top of the Main window is the Combat window.

The Main window will display all messages from chat channels, Important messages, Loot messages, and Merchant (buy/sell) messages.

The Combat window will display combat and system related messages, such as: spell casting, damage taken for NPCs and yourself, your death, resist/bonus changes, resist messages, targeting, weapon equipping, and more.

Chat Buttons:
On the bottom left hand corner of the Main window, you will see two buttons. The first button, shaped like a conversation bubble, is where you can access a menu of slash commands for chat channels. Clicking on an entry will type the slash command into the text entry field to the right of the chat buttons.

The second button, shaped like a face, is where you can access Camelot’s emotes. Clicking on a smiley from this button will perform the emote. A tooltip that describes the emote will appear when mousing over a smiley.

Accessing Chat Window Options:
To access options for a chat window, you can simply right-click on the window’s tab or the message area. A menu will appear with the following options:

    * Message & Channel
    * Window Alpha
    * Font Alpha
    * Font Size
    * Default Channel
    * New Window
    * Delete Window (Not available for the Main chat window)
    * Rename Window (Not available for the Main chat window)

Left clicking on one of these will pull up a control or a separate window that will allow you to change the option.

Message & Channel:
The Message & Channel option allows you to set which messages and channels are printed in the chat window. It will also allow you to change the color of a message or channel.

To show a message or channel, check the box (via left-click) next to the message or channel name you wish to show.

To hide a message or channel, uncheck the box.

To change the color of a message or channel, left click the message/channel name and then left click one of the color boxes shown at the bottom of the Message & Channel Window.

Click Accept to save your new settings or click Cancel to cancel your changes.

Window Alpha:
The Window Alpha option allows you to adjust the transparency for the chat window. When clicking this option from the menu, a control appears with a slider. The slider bar moves from 100 (solid – no transparency) to 1 (completely transparent).

Font Alpha:
The Font Alpha option allows you to adjust the transparency for the messages in the chat window. When clicking this option from the menu, a control appears with a slider. The slider bar moves from 100 (solid – no transparency) to 10 (semi transparent).

Font Size:
The Font Size option allows you to adjust the size of the messages in the chat window. When clicking this option from the menu, a control appears with the available font sizes. The current font size is shown with a check mark. Left click a number (point size) to select that font size for the chat window. 9 point is the smallest font size available. 21 point is the largest font size available.

Default Channel:
The Default Channel allows you to preset the chat entry field to a specific chat channel when this window is the active (the last tab clicked on) window. When clicking this option from the menu, a control appears with the following options:

    * None
    * Say - the chat window will default to the Say channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.
    * Group - the chat window will default to the Group channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.
    * Guild - the chat window will default to the Guild channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.
    * Officer - the chat window will default to the Officer channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.
    * Alliance - the chat window will default to the Alliance channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.
    * Chat Group - the chat window will default to the Chat Group channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.
    * Battle Group - the chat window will default to the Battle Group channel when hitting the ‘Enter’ key for the chat entry field.

When None is selected, the chat entry field will “remember” the last chat channel you have typed in. For example, if you type “/guild HI!” and press the ‘Enter’ key, when pressing the ‘Enter’ key again the chat entry field will set itself to the Guild channel.

The Default Channel setting also controls item delving. For example: When a chat window is set to Guild, dragging and dropping an item from inventory into the chat window will print the delve information to the guild channel.

New Window:
The New Window command allows you to create a new chat window. The newly created chat window will be docked to the chat window that you initiated the New Window command from.

Delete Window:
The Delete Window command allows you to delete the selected chat window.

Rename Window:
The Rename Window command allows you to rename the selected chat window. When this option is left-clicked, a small window with a text field appears. Enter in the desired name of the chat window and click either Accept (to save your changes) or Cancel (to cancel your rename).

Moving, Docking, and Detaching:
Each chat window can be moved by left-clicking the chat window’s tab and dragging it around the screen.

To dock a chat window, left-click the chat window’s tab and drag it into the other chat window. The windows will then occupy the same space, where the window tabs can be left-clicked to make a window active.

To detach a chat window from a docked setting, left-click the chat window’s tab and drag it out into empty space on the screen.

Resizing:
Each chat window can be individually resized by clicking and dragging on the circular arrow button on the top right corner of the window. The window will not complete its resize until you let go of the mouse button.

Scrolling:
Page Up and Page Down can be used to scroll chat text for an active chat window. Clicking on another chat window’s tab and then using Page Up and Page Down will then scroll that chat window.

Mousing over a chat window and using the mouse’s scroll wheel will also scroll chat text.

Glossary of Terms:
Tab – the area of the window that shows the chat window’s name.
