Feast of Swords

Feast of Swords

The Feast of Swords is a Far Eastern festival in which town residents celebrate their sons' healthy growth by dressing them in traditional armor to participate in mock battles, and raising banners in the shape of enormous fish.
Starting at 1:00 PDT on April 27, the Feast of Swords is once again coming to Vana'diel. And once again, nothing the Moogles plan ever seems to go smoothly... Adventurers, be ready to brandish your Kupelcian-designed wooden katana, and help save the day!

Further details regarding the festival will be released on the day of the event.

Spikes don't seem to work this year. I also don't think Dia works either.
received the 2nd Katana on the 3rd kill.
Got the necklace on about the 10th or 11th kill.

Killed the Mithra, many people got the necklace from it. only 10 charges.

Just finished fooling around for a bit..

Got the Lotus Katana after first kill.. Went for another round and I got 8 hume mochi.

I figured, this is fun, one more. Got the Shinai from a Galka. Lv.1 Damage:2 Delay:450 Fellow: STR+4 DEX+4

Quick edit: The trick is RDM or WHM / RNG. This way you can Blink and Stoneskin before you get capped at level 1 and then widescan for the statues. Killed the hume statue again and got mochi (again). I think it's the Galka who gives the Shinai.

Mithra statue aggros and she has a 1 hit kill. Last year I was wasking at her with a ton of ppl so it was pretty easy.

Indeed, I did this one year and it was capped. So your current level makes no difference. Just hop on your MNK and Hundred Fists them with your Wooden Katana :)

All right!

I've been waiting for this to happen again, one of the very few events that I actually take part in.

Some info from last year's event that I remember:

1. Equip the G-katana, talk to the moogle outside, you'll be reduced to level 1 with fulltime Flee.
2. Find one of the Mobs in the SAM AF and start beating away. The player/Party that gets the killing hit gets the drops.. So if you have 10 people playing solo killing the same mob, only one person will get the drops. (Suggest you form parties or take your mob away to a safer area so people can't/don't steal your kill).
3. The Mithra: This one will agro from a far distance and give you a beating. Other mobs won't agro after you have been reduced to lev 1. They have an AOE Dia type move (HP regen drinks help).
It took me over 3 hours to beat the Mithra one last year and it only dropped fish..
    Drops:

The regular NPCs will drop Mochi(Type depends on NPC killed), colored drops and lev 15 necklace(s) that teleports you to a nation's Chocobo stable. 15 charges, rare/ex, not rechargable that I know of. City type necklace depends on the area the NPCs are killed in. I'm guessing it's whoever controls that area.
    Tips and tricks:

I did this as 75RDM/RNG.
1. Widescan to locate target.
2. Buff up: Pro/shell, stoneskin, enthunder, ice spikes, Blink, Phalanx, haste, Food (Tavnazian Taco HP: 20 MP: 20 DEX: 4 VIT: 6 AGI: 3 CHR: 4 Defense: 26%), Selbina milk (1hp/3sec regen, 40 HP total). Wearing lev 1 gear.
3. Talk to moogle with G-kat equipted to start. Make sure to have Homepoint set near.

I was able to solo the regular one with the job/setup above. Good luck~

Edit:
    Other food suggestions:

Colored Egg: HP/MP+20 Atk+2?
Party Egg(HQ): HP/MP+25 Atk+5?
Dhalmel Pie: HP:25 STR:4 VIT:1 AGI:2 INT:-2 MND:1 Attack:25% Ranged Attack:27%
Flint Caviar: HP:10 MP:10 DEX:4 MND:-1 CHR:4
Hard-Boiled Egg: HP:10 MP:10
Soft-Boiled Egg(HQ): HP:20 MP:20

I think I'll try the eggs this year for food.

Edit:
In the past event like this, I saw you can upgrade the initial G-Katana for one that does more damage. Possible by trading it back to the Moogle in town after you kill one of the NPCs outside.

Were you not around last year? I remember this from last year, this was going on when I first started playing FFXI. I'm stoked that I'm actually higher than Level 15 while this is going on again.

I really want to see how my Drg will do against these mobs.

Though I remember even high level players were barely hitting them for 2-3 points max against them. I did however see the occasional 20 or so points of damage against them.

And it was funny as my first experience to see 30 or so ppl running around chasing these mobs, and doing next to nothing in damage against them.

I really enjoyed the little Taru-type of these mobs that noone would mess with in the Highlands and such areas. But that was all the low-level players I started out with last year. I'm try and nail one this year^^.

I thought I remember the moogle capping you to level1?

And I remember the actual hit didn't do any Damage, only the add effect, which was something like en-lightning for 1 Dmg.
Wow..

LOL, ya I remember that now. I had forgotten that you were capped. I just remember seeing high level players gearing up for it when it was going on. And I remember how many ppl were going after them at the same time.

But having an en-spell, wasn't the only thing doing damage. I do remember that though.

But you have to admit how funny it was to see 20-30 ppl trying to kill these things at the same time, and not doing any damage to the mobs.

There was 1 or 2 ppl that were on Bismarck that I do remember that could out-do everyone else against these things and actually do consistantly good damage (compared to others). But for the life of me I can't remember their names.
