I Was Just Wondering What Are You Guys Going To Do About Chocbo Digging? I Think Its Unfair Of The Fact That SE Had Nerf Chocobo Digging. Most People Use Chocobo Digging To Make Gils. Such As My Self, And Its The Only Crafting I Can Make A Living With. On Top Of That My Main Is A RNG. Its Great That SE Making Chocobo More Involved But Taking Away Most People Only Way Of Making Gils It Pretty Sad. Dont Get Me Wrong, Chocobo Rasing Is A Great Idea. Its All Fun And Game But Nerf'n Chocobo digging To Where You Can Only Dig For About 20 Min. Per Day Is Wrong. It Takes About 35-45 Min. Just To Dig Up A Decent Item Or Even Any Item At All. I Know My Voice Might Not Be Heard But Im Welling To Give A Shot. Im Prett Sure There People Out There That Think It Also Unfair, But Never Post A Form About It. I Guess Ill Step Up And Be The First One To Adress This Issues.

Can the chocobos you raise die? Also, I heard some stuff about them being only for racing. But then again I heard tell of a special whistle that will call them when you are out in the field. I am really confused as to what the true information is. Can someone elaborate?

Thanks!

what this means is that their apperance will change AFTER they are born based on the changes of thier attributes. So you can still have a black choco, it just has to be born that color.

ok straighting u out a bit.
yes there are dif color chocobos, they may not be available at the start.
you will be able to race them at some point, but that system is still in the early stages of figuring how its gonna work. no u cant fly ur choco. yes you will be able to ride them, once they reach adult stage you can get an item like a signal pearl and call them as a mount.
read up on the playonline site. and ffxionline.com had a great thread going on this subject with lots of details and even a map of the race track.
check it out on their main page

Anyone have an idea as to the filesize of this update? I normally wouldn't care but may be forced to do this one on dial-up since I won't be at home.

Thanks in advance.

Pardon my ignorance. But can someone, who has a clue, and perhaps evidence to backup what they are saying, explain exactly what the update will involve.

1. Can we use the chocobos at our own discretion. I.e. Will we still have to rent the buckers.

2. Is there going to be various colors of chocobo available - As seen in previous FF games.

3. Is the racing manual or auto. What will it depend upon.

Thanks to anyone who can answer the Q's!
Pardon..

This is a Cut and Paste Text from the FFXI update page:

[Chocobo Raising]

With the cooperation of the VCS (Vana’diel Chocobo Society), adventurers will be able to create care plans and raise their very own chocobos. Eventually, players will be able to breed their fully grown chocobos and possibly produce rare and expensive eggs!

Beginning Chocobo Raising

The process of chocobo raising begins when you trade an egg obtained from a shop or battlefield to a VCS chocobo trainer (located in the stables of the three starting nations). You won’t be able to tell the attributes or coloring of your chocobo until the egg hatches.

*Note that you cannot trade another egg to a chocobo trainer once the chocobo raising process has begun. Also, the process of raising a chocobo must be continued in the nation where the egg was traded.

VCS Chocobo Trainers
- San d’Orian stables: Hantileon
- Bastokan stables: Zopago
- Windurstian stables: Pulonono

*There are new NPCs in the chocobo stables known as “chocoguys” who will help you understand the process of chocobo raising.
Chocoguys
- San d’Orian stables: Arvilauge
- Bastokan stables: Gonija
- Windurstian stables: Kiria-Romaria

[From Egg to Chocobo]

The process of raising a chocobo from egg, to chick, to adolescent, to adult will take approximately one month (Earth time).
Adventurers will work with a VCS chocobo trainer to care for their chocobo. The attributes of a fully grown chocobo will depend on the treatment it receives during this time.

Chocobo Care
Visiting your chocobo and caring for it directly will create bonds of affection that cannot be replaced by even the most detailed care plan. It is not strictly necessary to provide this level of dedication; however, your loving attention will have a noticeable effect on your chocobo’s development. It is also possible to cure your chocobo of several different status ailments with direct care.

- Special Abilities
Your chocobo may obtain special abilities depending on the method of care you employ. Each chocobo is limited to a maximum of 2 abilities.

- Events
You will witness various events while caring for your chocobo.

Feeding Your Chocobo
Using special feed or medicine will help your chocobo recover from exhaustion and status ailments. Trade the feed you obtain from shops or gardening to the VCS chocobo trainer. Overfeeding your chocobo may lead to stomachaches.

Hopefully, the re-call timer on calling our chocobos won't be too bad. Speaking of personal mounts in MMORPGs, look at the mounts that will be available to players in the upcoming "Archlord" PC game...

This is final fantasy... there are no flying mounts in the history of final fantasy excecpt airships.

If you want this game to be like EVERY other mmorpg out there, go sit on your thumb and rotate, because what makes this game unique is that it's FINAL FANTASY, and not another lame dungeons and dragons everquest clone.

"Yeah it's about time we get personal mounts. That "other" game [wow?] has had them long befor us and now "they" have flying mounts too (which we will never see in ff because the retool for ff would be so massive and costly SE would go broke if they attempted it) SE really needs to step up there efforts in the development department. Personal mounts will be nice but lets face it they're so long over due it's not even funny. Makes me wonder if SE just likes to play follow the leader? or do they just take years to repond to it's customer base. Whatever their motives are this (long over due) choco mount better be cool."

If you think WoW is so much farther ahead than ffxi then go play WoW instead of ffxi. SE has been begged by players for choco raising for a few years but they never did anything because they were trying to find a way to put it in the game without ruining the game. Sure to the players it may seem like nothing but in the point of view of SE if they just threw in choco raising without thinking one of SEs biggest ways to help control the games economy would crash. Im tired of coming on these forums and see nothing but ppl ******** to SE because they feel like they're god.

Amen to that...

There is a reason why FF XI has one of the highest player retention numbers of all the MMORPGS. Catering to every whim of the TV generation isn't one of them...
