New Aht Urhgan Missions!(06/26/2006)

The next version update will bring the release of a new region, new mercenary ranks, and the long-awaited continuation of the Treasures of Aht Urhgan storyline in the form of new missions.

New Missions

The FINAL FANTASY XI Development Team left difficult battles out of the early Treasures of Aht Urhgan missions in order to allow as many players as possible to enjoy the new content. However, the new missions will be aimed for higher level players, reinforcing the words of Naja Salaheem: "Salaheem's Sentinels only takes the best of the best, the crrream of the crop!"

Fierce adversaries and the mysteries of the Aht Urhgan Empire await you!

New Mercenary Ranks

The next version update will introduce two new mercenary ranks and their corresponding rank evaluations.

One of the new rank evaluations will be themed after helping out the less experienced.

A New Region

The new region "Ruins of Alzadaal" will be added to the Aradjiah continent.

At first, only a part of the area "Alzadaal Undersea Ruins" will be accessible, but other areas will gradually be made available by subsequent version updates.

CoP's Sea isnt actually in the sea, its another dimension. Al'teiu was suken into the sea first, then banished into another plain of existence. The Zilart couldn't survive there, constantly being bathed with the light of the mother crystals and became Quasilumin. Although it resembles a sea, it inst, in fact under the sea, the monsters may resemble sea creatures but thats probably because the surrounding fauna around the palace was also transfered to Lumoria dimension along with the castle since they occupied the same time/space when the grand palace was sinkin in the sea of Shumeyo.
About the helping less experienced.

For some reason I just see/think of this as an escort sorta thing...
If not that, then it may be something where you have to help someone w/ their main job at this lvl or that kinda thing.
Either way... I know I'ma hear ppl ***** about how it's suppost to be for high lvls. XD
ToAU I mean. :P

I don't think you would really call it space because of the fact that it's under water.. There are screenshots of people going in there taking a look around.. How they got in there is beyond me, but I've seen them.. It's actually a pretty cool little area, porters and such to warp to others, which I've read are not activated yet, and I thought the windows looked like they had fish in them.. I'll have to go double check the pictures though..

but Sea, why is it called that? looks like hell froze over if you ask me ^^

Alexander has been semi-referanced around Al Zhabi, and the Gordius is also in Al Zhabi with coincides with Alexander's star. I expect soem action from him, summonable or non, in the storyline eventually. I'm thinking as Odin and Alexander have been referanced, they might be the new summons.

I have my doubts with Alexander. I mean, he's a freaking castle man, how do you squash that down into a teeeny wittle avatar? ._o

Although, Fenrir is already in, so I don't really care who they add :D

hmmm? i always thought alexander was a poltrigiest that controled the castle... since a castle isnt actualy a living thing and all the other summons are.

....why can't we get Bahamut summoning; ;

I don't recall the exact interview or I'd link to it. But we will never get Bahamut as a summonable avatar. The exact reason given was that his powers would have to be drastrically cut back to keep the game in balance. The developers want to leave him as the badass that he is. Sorry for the bad news, but whatever the new summons are the will not be Bahamut.
New summons?

If they do add new summons, I think the most likely now would be Phoenix and Odin.

I think this sounds kewl, the fact that they have something to where you have to help less expeienced players could mean a lot of things, but I like where it is going.

Hopefully helping wont equate power leveling the less experienced.

New summons are possible. They said they would be adding at least 2 avatars in this expansion and they are planning large scale changes to the summoner job. who knows what they will decide.

I just started playing FF1 and FFXI seems to be pretty much it in 3D. The af uniforms, the structure of dungeons

Some of the non-basic jobs are also taken from other FF games. I know summoners have always been known for that greenish gear and their horns, that was from like FF3 I think. And Dark Knights look like Cecil from FF4, so do paladins for that matter *spoiler* (because Cecil becomes a pld). */end spoiler*

Dragoons kind of resemble Kain from FF4, though I think they look more like Lancers from FFT. The nin Afv2 is red so that comes from FF1. Rangers af look like hunters from FF3. Samurai Af is from FF5. Corsairs somewhat resemble Setzer from FF6 (though they mostly look like pirates). Bards look like the bard dude from FF4 (can't remember his name atm). Beastmasters Af is from FF5. Puppetmasters, being a relatively new job. are the only ones w/o an existing Af template.

Can't tell ya'll how many times I played FF2 (US Version). In my opinion, looks like they referenced AF from the following characters:

MNK: Yang (the guy wears like orange tights)
SMN: Rydia (sported the green gear and horn later in the game)
DRG: Kain (had the purple gear from the start)
DRK: Dark Knight Cecil
PLD: Paladin Cecil
BRD: Edward

Just my opinion ~.^

I can definately see that. Probably the idea in the first place to have the basic jobs' AF look like FF1 characters. War, Whm, Blm, for sure.

I don't know how someone couldn't know but:
***FF1 Spoiler alert***

Mnk becomes a master and that looks like Mnk AF to me.
Thf becomes a Ninja, but FF1 Ninjas are red.
What a great game that is. Tiamat, Kraken, Warmech, of course the Wyvern King himself Bahamut. And you could actually beat the game without any mages!

More specifically?
....the Moon....
It's been done before, a little shout out for the FF4 fans.
The big boss of 'Moon': Nega FuSoya, the ultimate Redmage.

Sorry, i'm an oldschooler. I love to see previous FF references.

There is an Apollyon in the map data that FFXI atlas has extracted, so I wonder if that means there is a long lost crag somewhere on that contentent?

I'm not sure what you are referring to, exactly, but there is an Apollyon currently in the game. It is part of the Limbus storyline, and is accessible after you get Sea.

Not so sure there would be a crag required, necessarily, just a leyline nexus of some sort.
The crags were built where there was an abundance of magical energy.

The Olduum waypoint might be a good place, having the far-east equivalent of a Crag.
I'm sure the TAU beastmen strongholds Mamook, Halvung, Arrapago) have their own nexes as well, certainly simple walls and chains made by mere mortals would not be enough to hold the great [sic] Cerberus.
Possibly the {Assault} Staging Points have something to do with it? They (Naja/The Immortals) wouldn't have us always going into the same cave over and over (when there are a wide assortment of other places to go) if there wasn't something down there...

Zilart has Sky
Promathia has Sea
ToAU? These ruins? Space maybe!?!. It is the 'Astral' Candescense anyway. Either way i wonder what the big battles or the extremely tough areas will be like. So far we haven't done much more than cutscenes for ToAU missions. I'd love to see Odin, Alexander, or Pheonix. Can you say Raisega Reraisega?

Bards have Reraisega. It just isn't used as much as it takes the place of other songs that may have better effects.

I know, sounds very Mario Bros. Smiley: laugh
