FINAL FANTASY XI Update (Jan. 13)

At the following time, emergency maintenance was performed on FINAL FANTASY XI. It came to our attention that some players were using third-party software to repeatedly and automatically steal items from monsters in certain areas. Emergency maintenance was performed to address this issue. To counter this exploit, it is no longer possible to obtain items via the job ability "Steal" from certain monsters in specific areas. This measure is only temporary, and the issue will be fully addressed in upcoming days. We would like to take this time to remind our players that the use of any third-party equipment or software to change or modify the game in any way is strictly prohibited. If you come across such software, we ask that you please refrain from using it, no matter how minor it may appear to be. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation. [Affected Period] Jan. 13, 2006 3:00 (PST) [Affected Services] FINAL FANTASY XI [Important Update Details] -Items that can be obtained via the job ability "Steal" have been removed from some monsters in the following areas. Idea

Here is a idea, how about people stop selling iteams at such a high price, Umm that would put a stop to gil sellers. People uping the price on iteam is fueling the gill sellers come on people think about. Everybody is like Supply and Demand make the item cheaper and people will not have to look for other place to get gill.
Rmt smell like ...hamster puu

yea i do kinda get annoyed when peeps complain about countless matters, Oh the Rmt stole my claim!, unless tehy used a Boting program i don't wanna be bothered by hearing it. People made teh matter wrose by Buying all the Gil on X-mas/holiday season of 2005, its your own friends/and or your own fault crap is so overly priced, people buy gil and waste it carelessly ot buy fancy armor, then the shortage of the product in AH is depleated hence the jack~up~prices. Blamin the Rmt isnt 100% accaurate in this matter, its the Buyers. and this Thirdparty program being shutdown, TY SQuareEnix.

I just dont get it!People always ***** about SE this and SE that...it's not SE's fault that there's Gilsellers out there as well as rich kids that have dough to buy Gil!!!It's like this in real life.Black market is everywhere in everything so are people that revolves around it!Just like Drug Dealers and Junkies...it just cant be eliminated! We all know that.So let's put a lil' bit of Faith into the company that makes the best RPGs/MMORPGs in the World, and let them do their job!Think of SE as GOD!In the end, everything will pan out>>>just like in the movies>>>Good Guys always Win!Plus Gilsellers are being wiped off slowly...given enough time and proof!Time is all we need...so just give it Time!^^And STOP ************* does not get anyone anywhere...

3rd Party Apps
# Jan 13 2006 at 7:15 PM Rating: Decent
I think S/E should modify The Playonline viewer to scan the memory for known specific 3rd party exploit applications.

They can update the applications list every week which should shouldn't take no time at all.

As for Gil sellers S/E isn't going to use their own money to buy GIl from IGE or other sellers for sting operations.
They could do 4-5 or more Bans a month just to make some examples out of sellers and yes BUYERS too.

good idea, too bad its illegal for them to scan your pc. Wait... bad idea, you know how long virus scans take on my pc?

Imagine that "virus scan" every time you try to play FFXI, plus I have work files on my pc that SE has no right to be able to scan, add to the fact that I'm going to school for pc programming, they would prolly ban me over my programming tools.

Good idea.
Only thing is it would have to be after you hit the play button and start going into the game. Some where after the terms and condition agreements. That would be because if it was in the viewer, before full screen, they could have the program turned off and it wouldnt get detected probably. Another thing that might possibly happen is it might find some wrong program in someones comp and mess up on them.
Just possiblities but would sound good to have hooked up in ffxi.

And to everyone about Gillsellers/buyers there are things that SE could do that would gimp the use of sellers alot but that is not a convo for this page and its such an annouying subject

This seems like a "kill fleas with nuclear explosions" kind of fix...so instead of just banning the people or finding a way to block the program...they make it so no thief can steal the item.
Good work SE...the next time someone finds a way to bot fishing WELL (they already bot it) why don't you just ban all fishermen? OR make the fishing guild close.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 13 2006 at 4:58 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you ask me, SE owns IGE. I am only stating what my gut tells me. This is not fact that has been proven, but I bet it one day is revealed to be truth.
Who uses Platinum Beastcoins anyways?

Anyone that high in Goldsmithing grows their own plat ores. Unless of course, they're a Thief; and in that case they don't need to buy them. I suppose a great deal of money could be made synthing into ingots, but then you'd have to gilburn goldsmithing to that level.

It's of little concern to me, since gold beastcoins are priced higher and are easier to obtain on my server.
Gillsellers?

SE should take some of the money they make and randomly themselves purchase small amounts of gil at IGE and other sites, and immediately upon delivery, ban the account/handle of the delivery boy. Sure, it could be gotten around, but I love to think of the gilsellers having to make new accounts (or use their purchased accounts) in order to remedy this. Imagine finally if SE were successful at this, the gilsellers would have to create new accounts and wait for the updates to load each time!!! The thought is delicious, but probably not realistic (after all, would SE spend real money to fix the major problem with the game???). Oh well...

They wouldn't have to wait for the updates, just input the new POL ID and password, the FFXI software would still be on their system.

Granted, they wouldn't need to reinstall things, but they'd still need to spend $50 on a new copy of the game (the only way to get a new POL ID), plus the cost of any extra expansion packs they use, and on top of it they'd lose all the characters on that account (probably high-level characters at that) and have to start out from scratch.

It actually would be in SE's best interest to do this. They don't need to spend tons of money on this - for each pack of gil purchased - for as little as $10 - they get at minimum one account to ban (and remember, that's the whole account, not just one character). If the gilsellers do buy a new POL ID, SE would make their money back right away (plus a bit extra even). And if the gilsellers leave permenantly, they make the money back from people who would have cancelled their accounts due to gilsellers, but decide to stay on instead.

Profit vs. Fun
# Jan 13 2006 at 1:55 PM Rating: Default
As if it wasn't hard enough to compete with gil farmers. Until SE prohibits the sale of gil online, we will always have these types of issues. SE apparently doesn't make enough money off of us, to make customer care a priority over gil sale profit.

... Why can't people just play for fun rather than profit?

They DO prohibit the sale of gil online...it's just that all they can really legally do is ask the companies involved not to do it. No court is going to take something like this seriously ("You want to sue them for manipulating the sale of fake money?! Get out of my courtroom before I have you hauled off to the looney bin"), and in the case of eBay and other auction sites, they have to rely on the sites themselves, who are, in turn, reliant upon users reporting each and every one of the auctions that turn up as soon as they DO show up.
Oh me oh my..
