The Fish Ranking System A new competition for fishermen (and fisherwomen) is set to arrive on Vana'diel with the next version update! We have received several requests for a fish ranking system and have debated the issue for a considerable amount of time. After seeing the positive results of the Ballista Ranking system, we decided to make Fish Ranking a reality! Many players have already held their own private fishing contests, but now everyone will have the opportunity to participate in a larger, official ranking event! -After the version update, Fish Ranking will be available at the Fishermen's Guild in Selbina. After specifying the variety of fish to be used in the competition, the rules will be contested. -Contest rules are changed periodically by the Fishermen's Guild. Winners may be chosen based on the weight or the size of their fish. The heaviest, largest fish does not always win, however. There is also a ranking to see who can catch the lightest fish, and another to see who can catch the smallest. Depending on the rules, participants may seek a large, heavy fish, or a small, light fish. -After submission, each fish will be evaluated regardless of the method in which it was acquired. If you could not catch the fish required for the contest, you may want to try working with your linkshell members or other adventurers, or even buy the fish at the auction house. Contest winners will receive a new title and a modest award. We hope you enjoy this new, competitive angle to fishing in Vana'diel! I have just begun playing a couple months ago and have found fishing to be one of my favorite parts of the game. Being able to be ranked and take part in contests only makes it better. They should lose the AH part though because it ruins the whole challenge of a contest.

i like the idea of fishing having ranks i love ballista i love competing but when you say huge pay off how bout something more like skill points cause i dont have the kind of time to sign on at certins of the day to fish for skill points thats why my fishing is only lvl 11 lol got it to 10 before the update that changed it and since then ive gotten 1 lvl not sure if its just me but i got way better skill points before lol and i like the idea that fish prices will jack way up means ill get more for the fish i can catch ^^

Actually, it looks like something to take advantage of the SIZE of the fish caught for a change. Now that will be fun!

Pssh. Buying the fish is the best part. Now we can charge silly prices for fish that are normally the smallest/largest/etc.

Or I could be wrong and we'll suffer.

I think it's a great idea. It might bring more people to the fishing guild. And it brings more things to do besides balista, farming, and Exping to the things to do list.

i think its kinda pointless if you can just buy the fish.

Sounds good, but I agree that you shouldn't be allowed to buy ah fish for it. I got level 50 fishing b4 the update where it changed the way you catch. I didn't fish for along time but got back into it (currently level 69) and once you get the hang of it, it's fun. Maybe some more people will start up fishing.

I think this is a great idea.

Fishing has really slumped off since summer, IMO.
This would really bring those who started fishing but didn't get it that well, back into it...it will also bring a lot of fun to the fishing system.

I'm sure as Exodus said, there will probably be more fish that are EX to be caught.
Bying from the AH is always an option, there is a ton of people that normally fish and sell what they catch just to make money...then there are those that use the fish for various reasons...now it will only increase the price for various fish at the start to accomidate the new Ranking desire. But then there will be a lot more fish in the AH ready to be used for synthesis as well as for the Ranking.

All in all, this is a great idea, and I welcome it.

Kinda dumb to allow you to buy the fish from the AH. They should make a set of EX fishes that only pop up when you have an active contest going on.

I'm guessing that maybe they may add that later. You know, add something now that doesn't require tons more programming, like fish that are exclusive, and see if there is an interest.

Personally, I'm not big into fishing nor will this get me into it. But for those who do, I think it's great to have another game within the game. Honestly, for all the ******** and moaning we do, S/E does try to provide a variety of content for the community.
