Trick or Treat?

Master, Master! Vana'diel has been on fire with goldfish scooping, dancing, and wild buffalos! But all that's over now, kupo! No more trouble, and no more heat! But don't you miss all the activity, actually? Aren't you itching for more excitement? I have some information fresh from the M.H.M.U. (Mog House Management Union) that just might scratch that itch, kupo! Harvest time in Bastok, San d'Oria, and Windurst is now over, and a bone-chilling, fearsome festival is in the works! The towns will use the festival as a means to express their enormous thanks to the adventurers for the safety they bring, and provide a means of revenge for the ever-so-few trifling troubles they cause. That's right, kupo! It's the third incarnation of the Harvest Festival! The other details given to me are vague because apparently, the festival planners didn't want any information leaked to the adventurers, kupo! Luckily, the M.H.M.U. had a few secret agents planted at their meetings! Apparently, there will be more than just the typical monster costumes! A certain hazardous-looking decoration(*) devised by the engineers of Bastok is scheduled to make an appearance. Oooh, scaaary... I'm shaking in my fur, kupo! The planners have also set up patrols during the preparation for the festival, so they must be hiding more spine-tingling secrets! Do you like playing tricks? Then I have good news for you, kupo! It seems they are planning to give away special costumes. Adventurers will roam the streets wearing the costumes and approach wary passers-by with calls of "Trick or Treat?" What will the moogles be doing, you ask? Eating candy and playing tricks, of course, kupo! (*) When questioned, Raibaht shouted, "What do you mean, 'It looks dangerous!?' Cid's inventions tend to have a unique look to them, but this was made from the same technology that allows airships to fly at great heights. It's perfectly safe!" I think I made him angry, kupo... - - - - - This event is scheduled to commence at Oct. 20, 2005 17:00 (PDT) and will last until Nov. 1, 2005 0:00 (PST). -Trade a treat to a disguised NPC walking in Bastok, San d'Oria, or Windurst. -The NPC will only accept certain treats. -Players might be disguised as beastmen or monsters for a certain period of time after trading a treat to an NPC. Magic or items cannot be used while disguised. Costumed players also cannot perform actions that require a target, such as talking to NPCs or opening doors. The effects of the monster costume may be canceled by changing to a new area or: 1. Windows version: Press the [+] key on the numeric keypad twice. PlayStation 2 version: Press the triangle button twice. 2. Line up the selection box with the status icon entitled "Costume." 3. Windows version: Press the [Enter] key. PlayStation 2 version: Press the X button. -Talk to an event moogle during the festival to find out more. Perhaps a surprise awaits...

The +1 fork
# Oct 23 2005 at 11:57 AM Rating: Excellent
The +1 fork quest is pretty easy. To get it, you have to go to another town from where you got you regular one.

You need to equip your NQ fork, and find the correct NPC, to get turned into a gob. And you need two gobs for it to work, and here how;

You need to find the NPC that turns you into your citys enemy.

Let's say your from Windy, then you need to find the NPC that'll turn you into a yagudo, if you have your NQ fork equipped, you should get turned into a gob.
So for san d'orians it orcs, and for bastokans quadavs.

Then you'll need to go to the balloons, and the first one there gets the fork. You can zone and do it again for you partner to get it also.

Good Luck

The Pitchfork Guide
# Oct 22 2005 at 8:48 PM Rating: Decent
Pitchfork +1 Strategy

1) Find a partner in whatever city you want to start it. It doesn't matter where you start.

2) Each city has combination of costumes that you and your partner must wear while standing under a balloon that will reward you with a Pitchfork. So far I know that in Sandy it is Ghost + Skeleton and another post here says that in Bastok it is Skeleton + Shade. I don't know about Windy but someone will probably post it here soon.

3) It's easiest to trade your treat to a shop/stationary NPC monster than a roaming monster. Scroll and read CoffeeAndApples' post with a list of NPCs and what they turn you into.

4) Turn into what you're supposed to be for the city you're in. Run to and meet your partner under a balloon and you will rewarded with a Pitchfork.

5) Go to a different city. I have confirmed that you must be with a different partner for the +1 "quest" then you were on the NQ Pitchfork quest. Systematically trade with each monster NPC in a shop, etc. to find out which one will turn you into a Goblin. It is different for different people so you'll have to find yours. (Other haves posted here to go to such-n-such NPC but if that's not yours, it won't work.)

6) Once you and your partner are both Goblins, find the correct balloon (could be any in that zone) to stand under and you'll be rewarded the Pitchfork +1.

I got the regular pitchfork earlier today in Windy. We had a ghost and a shade. the ballow we were standing under was next to the Manustery in Windy Woods. You may need a specific costume combo with each decoration. we were under a different baloon with the same costumes and nothing happenend.

Yeah, you can use the Treat Staff whenever, but they will stop working after the Halloween Event is over. Try looking them up in the item search. A lot of people were furious after the event last year because they had spent so much money on treats to get them and they quit working. I think the Treat Staff II will continue to work even after the event is over.* I'd love to have one for missions so I don't have to buy Warp Scrolls. Yeah, it has a 5-day recharge time, but so what? It will still save me some CP, it will never run out of charges, and it won't quit working on me Nov. 2.

*Edit: I'm basing this supposition off the fact that people complained endlessly about their Treat Staves shutting down on them, but no one said anything about a Treat Staff II quitting. I had just started the game last year and didn't have the gil to do this event, so I can't speak from experience. If someone who participated would like to correct me, go ahead.

"Latent Effect" mans different things for different items, not just when HP is low.

Example of the Treat staff that I still kept from last year even after they disabled it. (Yes, it's back up and working for this year's event too.)

The "Latent Effect" of the Treat Staff activates during the halloween event each year and is triggered on a random attack round. This kind of triggering acts like the "Additional Effect" that you find on other weapons.

Pitchfork +1 walkthrough
# Oct 22 2005 at 4:54 PM Rating: Decent
I am from Sandy and my server is Kujata. To get the Pitchfork +1 you first have to have the Pitchfork by partnering up as a Ghost and a Skeleton then go to the Lanterns. Once you get the Pitchfork you then need to disband your party in Sandy, then head to Bastok. Once in Bastok, go to Bastok Markets. At this point, you need to team up with someone from Bastok. Right outside the AH there is an NPC that will turn you into a Goblin, you and your partner must BOTH be goblins (ginger cookies work fine) then run together to G-4 on the map in B.Markets to the lantern there, and you will get the Pitchfork+1 you might have to do it twice for both to get it. Later.

I really believe it but i still think it has something to do with equipment, i had 6 of the 8 items ( 6/10 if you inclue the forks) and i was wearing stuff trading and trading didn't get anything till at once i got another trickstaff II and i couldn't get it cause i had one >.> then after a time i looked at this forum and saw the thing of wear this to get that and wear this to get these i tried it and ding after a few tries i got it.

I don't say you NEED to wear it but i'm quite sure there is something about it and if you have the same problem as i did just try to wear the stuff it can't hurt ya >.> If you don't have the problem then you are lcuky and prolly still gonna wear it for fun :P

Pitchfork+1 info
# Oct 22 2005 at 12:14 AM Rating: Decent
Here is what Foxbrig and I, on Diabolos, know so far. You get NQ from home country, HQ from another nation. In all cases, you have to both be goblins and go to one of the specified points to get +1. If from sandy. Start in South sandy, one person can become Bones from Coura near the AH. Other is Ghost from Phamelise(K-9). Then you go to decoration around L-7. If you are not from sandy and want the +1. Bastok go to the bartender in Lion's Srings and Windy to the Averelle er somethin in Rambroy (might have the 2 mixed up). Then go to F-7. First one there will get the +1. Zone and repeat with other person there first for other to get +1. If you are from sandy, in Bastok, go to Belizieg and trade to become a goblin. Then take turns going first to G-4. That is all I know so far. Will update as I get more info.

Oke just to make one thing clear it is RANDOM you don't get one special thing form the TRICK.... NPC's

Is this treat a trick?
# Oct 21 2005 at 8:07 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, for those of you all participating in this event, I have a few questions.
First of all, there has been a rumor that you can only get one prize (the pumpkin hats/staffs) per game day. Is this just a rumor?
There is also something I've noticed... you can only get one costume a day, the rest of the time, the NPC just says "Thank you..." and takes the treat from you. Some people say if you trade a different type of treat, you can get another costume that day. I have yet to test this out, because I don't want to go spending a ton of gil on various treats and end up wasting it all.

With that all being said, can anyone clarify or comfirm these? And what kind of treats are you using? I've found "Ginger Cookies" from the traveling merchants to be rather cheap, about 10gil a peice.

I'm getting 5 costumes (read: chances for two treat staffs) every game day because i carry a stack of ginger cookies, cinna-cookies, garlic crackers, gob chocolates, and acorn cookies. I lucked out and got most of 'em for 10~100 gil apiece (990~9900 per stack).

And yes, you can get two items per day. Its just stupidly rare (happened to me once only) >_<;
Pitchfork +1
# Oct 21 2005 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
This is how I got my pitchfork +1 in south sandy:

First, my team partner Riftrip and I got us both goblin costumes. You get a gob costume by trading sweets to a certain NPC while having the NQ pitchfork equipped. It seems that this NPC is a different one for each character; I got mine from Lotte in the tavern in south sandy while Riftrip got his costume from Aveline (in Raimbroy's Grocery).

After we got our costumes we just ran to the decorated site at E-7. Strangely enough, only I got the pitchfork +1 at this site while Riftrip got nothing. The only explanation I have for this is that I wore a horror head II and he didn't, we're still trying to figure this out though.

EDIT: OK, you don't need the horror head II to get the +1 fork. After I got my fork, we just zoned out and back in again and this time made sure that Riftrip was at the decorated site before me. He got his fork and I got a jack-o-lantern.

Pitchfork

So... It appears you need a partner and you both need a costume. I'm not sure exactly wether you need specific ones, but i'm pretty sure you do. Somewhere in sandy North, I think, Skeleton and Ghost will work, I did mine in Bastok Markets. I was a ghost and my friend was a wolf. We went to the baloon decoration near brigid and as soon as we were both under it, the message: "Obtained: Pitchfork" poped up.

If anyone has any info regarding the +1 Version, let me know please.
Thank you.
I hope this helps.

doing the quest in another city doesn't work. i and my partner did it in sandy (ghost+skeleton) then in bastok (skeleton+shade) and got the pitchfork in sandy, but only a jack-o-lanturn in bastok.

I thought maybe you had to do it once as 2 undead, and again as 2 beastmen to get pitchfork HQ, but that didn't work.

Edit: looks like Escorial beat me to this one ^_^;

This is the surefire way I found to get a Pitchfork.

First, get a partner. They may or may not have to be of opposite gender to your character, but I did this anyway just to be safe.

Bastok:
Go to Bastok Mines. Have one player trade a treat to Proud Beard next to the mog house zone to turn into a Shadow. Have the other player trade a treat to Emaliveulaux (at around (G-6) I think) to turn into a Skeleton then go the the decoration at (H-7) to obtain a Pitchfork.

San d'Oria:
Go to South San d'Oria. You and your partner become a Ghost (Trade treat to Phamelise at (K-9)) and Skeleton (Trade treat to Corua at (G-6)) and stand under the eastern most decoration (at L-7) to obtain a Pitchfork.

I tried this with a Pitchfork already and obtained a Jack-o-lantern, so doing the same thing over in a different nation doesn't get you the Pitchfork +1.
