From SE: Since the implementation of the latest version update on Jul. 18, 2005, the following quest related issue has been discovered. Maintenance to address this issue was performed on Jul. 25, 2005 at 2:00 (PDT). -After making a request to the "An Affable Adamantking?" NPC for a new quest item, and then speaking to the "A Moral Manifest?" NPC, players will obtain an incorrect item and will no longer be able to receive the correct item from the original NPC. This issue also occurs when making a new item request to the "A Moral Manifest?" NPC, then speaking to the "An Affable Adamantking?" NPC. * For players who have obtained the incorrect item and have yet to complete the quest, the correct item may be obtained by trading the incorrect item to the original quest NPC.

is there ONE single post in this thread thats actually about the post? anyone? what item was the 'wrong' item? what item was the 'right' one? i think most of you just like bit*%ing. i thought most gamers were male, but with all this griping and complaining, id swear you were all just a buncha high-school fems with PMS. take a chill, and stay on topic.

Video cards are almost plug & play - all you need to do is install the driver software. Suggest going out to buy a new video card and installing it yourself. Your parents will be proud you had the initiative! Just be carful about touching the connectors with dirty hands, and always make sure you are grounded, because static can kill computers. Anyway, static usually isn't a problem in the middle of summer.

wow... I realized after last update, for some reason during the hours of 12am - 4am I would get kicked off for no reason at all, and up till this recent update I haven't had problems getting d/c'ed ever. POL = **** SE = needs to get there **** together ^^

Tt's not only Verizon people, I;m on dail up Local net and its not going ither, been on from 4PM and till 2AM EST trying to get on, have a friends AOL connection thats lets me right threw but can't stay on it fo rlong cause its long diss from where I am right now.
Just want to know whats going on, also spent over an hour of trying to talk to any on form POL on the phone and was on hold for over 30 mins then some one picked up and said "Sorry, good bye".... then hang up on me...(still ticked about that)

GOD ******* DAMMIT!!!

STFU about Verizon, if they lost their pipeline to Japan I would be able to access the dozens of Japanese websites I use everyday, and they all still work fine! If you impatient ******** are going to cancel something, cancel FFXI so we don't have to listen to your ******** anymore. For the last ******* time, this is a POL issue, not an ISP one!

Get a grip people!

Well I'm not able to log on tonight. I'm going to go to bed and hopefully when I wake up it will be running smoothly. If not, well, I'll just keep trying tomorrow I guess. Good luck to everyone still trying to get on.

Hmmm nice info... people may want to check this site:

but the data for servers seems to be a bit off... this shows problems with Asia points but we all know that people are able to access. It shown no problems in CA though...

Think about it this way, it was POL's update that caused the problem, not Verizon changing (at least from what i see), so if you are going to cancel anything, cancel your FF membership :)

I spent a half an hour on the phone waiting to get to talk to someone at Playonline and their answer was this..."This is the third call from a Verizon user. There is some issue with Verizons pipeline to Japan that data won't go through." Hmmmm... let me see if i get this right. For the internet to work for any servers in Japan all data goes through one "pipeline". I only hope that Verizon is not responcible for world commerce because they just lost our link to Japan....LOL. Do they really believe that will pass as an answer???

POL fed u a bunch of BS about verizon, i'm afraid. if it was verizon's fault, wouldn't i be able to get online since i do not use Verizon. furthermore, does that account for the fact that POL website won't work either...

I have Charter as well and can't get into game or on to playonline site have been trying for almost 7 hours

I'm currently using charter, and for the first 12 hours or so after the update I couldn't connect to FFXI, but I could connect to POL.

I shut down my computer completely. I unplugged my router and my modem. left them all off for a good five minutes. plugged in my moedem first, waited for it to run through it's diagnostics and whatnot. then powered my router, then my computer. as soon as I tried connecting to pol it was logged in, hit that lovely play button, and agreed to the terms. took about a second and a half, and I was playing FF again.

Haven't had problems since.

my suggestion is to try doing what I did, in thta order.

Good Luck, I hate to see people not getting any play time.

I am a verizon user and I shut everything down and unplugged everything and replugged everything and waited 5 minutes to start up the internet and still I don't have my game!!

you have to leave everything unplugged for a few minutes, then plug them in, in the order I gave. of course, it might not work for you. maybe I just got lucky.

It could be that I'm on the West Coast too?

I am on Verizon and havn't been able to get on today.. this is really annoying long update couldn't play for two days then something like this happens....... ;/

I have general knowledge of how DNS and ISPs work, and i would assume that since the majority of people who have had problems are on two ISPs(Verizon, unexpected for me, they are generaly pretty good, but then again I have Fios(fiber optics). and Charter, which ive heard bad things about) i would guestimate it is a DNS problem, since other people on other ISPs are having problems. But eh, what do i know? im not the one working on the problem(which neither are the people who work at SE since its still night in japan :-/.

edit: Just ran a tracert, and it looks like something it down, gonna try to change my DNS server and see how that goes.

Edit2: Used 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 as my DNS servers, and still nothing, god that sucks.

Is there anyway to contact POL and let them know? I don't have the phone number in front of me or I would call. And this all happened after the update. >.< /cry I want to play.
