Zone Revamp - Splitpaw!

From EverQuestLive.com: Re-vamped Splitpaw hits Legends on December 15th and will be available to all the other servers in January. Farsoth Mal, son of the Ishva Mal, leader of the Verishe Mal tribe, sat by his father's side watching him rule his minions in Splitpaw Lair. His father may have conquered this lair some years ago, but Farsoth believed they should rule far more than just one underground kingdom. He grew to despise his father for his lack of ambition and many hours were spent in bitter arguments between the two. The Ishva Mal grew tired and angry at the ceaseless challenges to his authority, gaining as much contempt for his son as his son had for him. During a particularly heated argument of growls and grisly barks, the Ishva Mal reminded his willful son that his power was absolute and that he shared his throne with no one. With one quick motion, the Ishva Mal brandished his spear and sliced off his son's paw, determined that he would finally win the respect he deserved from his son. But the Ishva Mal's cruel methods would prove to be his downfall. The Ishva Mal grew to be a greater tyrant each day, so much so that the Verishe Mal mages and warriors secretly formed the Council of Nine to challenge his rule. Farsoth saw the plans the Verishe Mal had in store for his father, but did nothing to stop them and instead chose to use them to his advantage. Farsoth learned much from the council's mages and became obsessed with the summoning arts they practiced. His fascination eventually led to a plan that would secure the throne . . . for him. Through all he'd learned from the Verishe Mal mages, he believed he could summon a powerful entity from the Plane of Fire itself. Farsoth thought with such power at his side, nothing could stop him from ruling the Splitpaw Lair and any lands he desired. He prepared for weeks, researching and gathering the reagents he required and finally he set to work to summon a terrible beast to bring an end to his father's rule. Farsoth was distracted by his own anger, forgetting vital components as he wove the spell and the unthinkable happened. Flames shot out of the portal that Farsoth opened and, at the same time, rocks rained down upon the inhabitants of the lair. Then, the portal shifted its focus and water flooded into the corridors, extinguishing the flames and washing away the rocks. The portal shimmered once more and waves of all types of elementals poured into Splitpaw. Farsoth certainly attained part of his goal. His father was killed, but so to were most of the gnolls he wished to lead to greatness. Now he is a prisoner to the swarms of enraged elementals that have made Splitpaw Lair their new home.

I am very discouraged over this revamp.

Infected Paw is THE most challenging and FUN dungeon in all of Everquest. I have found nowhere else the vast variety of Mob types in a single dungeon. (WAR, ROG, CLR, SHM, MAG, ENC, WIZ, NEC). And what spawns in one spot often varies so it makes each raid to the Named a little different!

I see Sony as taking a terrific zone and ruining it. The Planes certainly provide enough room for the 60+ crowd! I play this game because its FUN, not because I wipe the Uber Level Boss every other night. The posts I've seen on the changes tell me the Elemental Mobs are going to be 700 Quadders at the entrance and see through Invisibility. So the highest levels and best gear will be required. A Hard LDoN can handle that for you! Or buy Omens! If you want to 'update' the old world that's great, but update it not rip down, plow under and rebuild completely!
EQ2 not that great.

I'm a long time EQ player, started the first week of the game, and played on and off. I went to EQ2 when it came out. There are all kinds of "improvements", better graphics, etc. Only one thing is missing...fun. It's just not as much fun as EQ... So I'm back. :)

According to today's patch notes, it appears to me that this re-vamp is for Legends only.

Six of one 1/2 dozen of the other ... I liked this zone playing in my 20 - 30's and would hate to see it made too hard but on the other hand I'd like to go back and see the changes.

I don't subscribe to Legends so I won't be seeing this new content until it comes to the other severs, but I will be going to check it out. Definately. I spent a lot of time there as a lowbie.

I agree with one of the current posts....if they turn this into another CT zone then it will blow...they made that zone too hard. SoE really needs to keep tabs on zones and if no one is going there then add more of the hot zone crap...but make it worth it...OMG Hate's fury was supposed to be a hot zone but the XP still sucked ***. There are a lot of zones to pick from and way too often the pros and cons = this zone = good and that zone = stupid...for all their talk about balance it hasn;t really materialized. Also consider that part of the reason that many zones are empty is equally due to the bigger size of the game and ...dare i say it...people are leaving the game... soon SoE is going to have to cut down on some servers to keep the population up. When I am on prime time (Bertozz server) and there are 25 people LFG that is sad...there should be over 3000 people on the server...3 years ago when the world was less then half the size it is now there were close to 1500 people on it.

Still I am interested in seeing what they do with the zone but I would like to see mostof the content accessible to a group of less then 6 players.

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE

The lack of planning on the part of SONY has caused population problems across the board. PvP servers are really feeling the hit. Populations have been cut in half by EQ2. I seen my guild lose 70% of it's population the weeks that followed. 50% went to EQ2 and the rest left to join bigger guilds that had not been recruiting for years.

I wonder if anyone at Sony remembers a product called New COKE that was a disaster back in the 1980's? Some paper pusher with a M.B.A. turned disaster into success by the seat of his pants. Time will tell if Sony can do the same thing.

One last thing. LEGENDS is a total joke. Prime time PoK numbers are 12 people. Bazaar sports a huge 48 Vendors tops. Save your money and do not come to this rip off Legend.
Gnoll Slayer
# Dec 12 2004 at 1:11 PM Rating: Excellent
The quest for the Gnoll Slayer sword is in there also. I had tonz of fun with ppl seeing a bard with a wolf pet tool around all over. Even though its just two charges, I had lots of fun with it when I was on lower level raids where the mobs dont have dmg shields. I hope they dont forget about moving the quest mob for that. I'd hate having that quest removed.

Do any of you younguns remember the pre-revamped Temple of Cazic Thule? It used to be a multi-level zone.

It used to be beautiful. Lowbies hunted the lizardmen outside (teens to 20's back then).

People around 30ish went inside and poked the rest of the mobs. By the time you got to the top of the temple proper, you could see an even con at 40 or so.

Trains were possible, but not *horribly* common (at least not all the way to the zin).

There were just enough needed pieces of questy bits in there to keep at least a few people headed to the zone on a regular basis (beginning bits for the SK epic, etc).

----

Then they "re-vamped" the zone.

The stuff at the front door now conned db to lvl 55. It *hit* a lot harder....

People went there in droves to find out what was new and different.

On my server at the time (Nameless), the facination lasted about a month or so.

There just wasn't anything that interesting. The mobs were almost all undercons, and while set at 55+ few people went in there before level 60. The Luclin expansion offered pleanty of zones for people at that level to explore and they were more inclined to go there than to come to CT.

The mid-level (35ish) questy bits were moved outside, but became even harder to get to pop than they were inside. And few mid-levels (also taken up with the wonder of moon-kitties) would go there when DSP offered such sweet xp.

In short, it was a bad failure of a revamp. Now CT stands empty except for high level guilds who decide very occasionally to grab a few groups now and then and "walk the zone" or brave/desperate folks who go in there after the high end tradeskill drops. Rarely does that zone see more than 20 people in a day.

----

I don't mind revamping. But EQ's tutorial only gets you to level seven and I'd like to be able to fight *somewhere* besides Crushbone.

I don't mind revamping. But it is a HUGE pain in the butt to get people of the right "group combination" for an ldon in the low 20's.

----

I see a future where ubers and almost-ubers have the pick of some 150 zones (but only ever go to the 3 or 4 with the best quest drops/xp/loot) and everyone else is stuck hanging out in bars and taverns trying to do badly scripted roleplay like in the ancient UO shards while waiting around for six people with the right classes who want (have no choice really) to do an LDON. A "lucky" few will pack like sardines into DSP from 30-45 because that will be the ONLY place left to go.

I don't like that future.

unfortunately we have already started on the path.

Take a walk through oasis, OT, DL, or any random zone that used to be filled by 50+ people and youll be the only person there. there are a few groups in places like PC, dsp, and the like, but they are few and far between. Also they usually consist of twinks and 2boxers powerlvling. those people who arent so lucky to have 2 accounts or that awesome set of armor at lvl 1(the stuff a lvl 50 would wear and be proud!) are probably finding a really hard time finding a group, and when they finally do they are underpowered!!

no. i dont think eq will be around much longer. not with eq2 out. the game is too old. everybody is either 65+ or just starting out. those who are high lvl arent going to stop playing their high end character who can get those rare drops to trade in for a lowbie who has to solo because nobody is in the zone.

perhaps im a pessamist. perhaps im wrong. I hope i am, cause i like this game.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
can't believe SoE is killing one of my favorite dungeons I leveled half of my characters in thier 20's in that dungeon and I always loved it for a good dungeon crawl.

Sigh, A time for all good things to come to an end.

multi-lvl?

I am wondering if they will make it a "multi-Lvl" zone.. as in the more you travel down into the lair the higher lvl it gets....

that would be so what cool

Generaly speaking i understand the nead for a re-vamp god knows some of the zones desprately need it. The conversion of another mid-lvl zone to a high lvl zone makes it more difficult for those of use who dont 2-box or have the ability or time to raid alot. I guess im stuck in DSP untill 45..

You would think they might at least introduce new models to the Elementals though, /sigh

Anyone that has enough power to come here and fight the new set of mobs will have seen more than their fair share of the same mobs in the Planes and possibly from way back in the days of fighting in Twilight Sea.

Will still be interesting to try, come on SoE, add some new looks, sheesh!

I was messing around in Warrens the other day. There is a new NPC in there that talks about how rallos zek came and visted them. Very simmlar to how the mith marr came to visit the frogs. There might also be a kobald up rising to erudite city. Just a neat bit of lore I found might be a future revamp but I am not sure.

Im wondering how the revamp will change the outside of Splitpaw too?

I leveled my druid through most of his 20's soloing the Mobs outside splitpaw. If they re-vamp the zone (Up the levels or maybe new Mobs) doesn't make much sense to have the same ol low levels as the guards does it?

Maybe have us kill another Dragon that drops some bit once in every 4 or 5 kills? ;-)

In reality, hiding the NPC that does the combine in a jail is kind of neat. However, he could easily be moved to some other jail.... Solb or Droga come to mind. Or just have him be freed and wandering SK.

I am kind of bummed about this. Splitpaw is still used by some lowbies. I know I have brought my lowbies their a few times recently, and their is often a group already there. It wasn't that long ago when you could go to that zone and have all the good camps taken...
