World of Warcraft Final Stress Test and Open Beta Announced

One of the most anticipated games of the year is almost ready to roll. Blizzard has announced a final stress test starting today that will lead into an open beta next week. The stress test is only available to fileplanet subscribers, but the open beta will be available to anyone who wants to download it and play it. There is no word yet on whether you will be able to keep your stress/open beta characters upon release. My guess is that they will base that upon whether any significant changes are made during the final weeks before release. I have played this game extensively and highly recommend it to you. Even in beta, it quickly became on of my all time favorites. It's certainly worth checking out during the free open beta. For more information, head to our World of Warcraft Site. We cover just about everything you need to know about the game. Or ask questions of the testers in our WoW Forum. And of course, purchasing it through EBgames.com gets you a free 30 day premium trial membership (or if you are already a premium member, use your code for 10% off).

If they allow players to keep characters from Open Beta on release they will be making a very bad move. Players have an advantage from just playing the game, they shouldn't get a further advantage of keeping their character. When a game releases, everyone should have to start from scratch.

Allakhazam's, as unfortunate as this may sound to you, is not just an EQ fanboy site that spends all its time kissing SOE's *** (so maybe they do it occasionally, but heh you kinda have to in this business.) They have sites for 8 different MMOs right now and try to keep their community abreast of developments in all MMORPGs, not create an environment where EQ is the only game in the universe. I know change can be scary, but sometimes it can be a good thing too. Sony isn't gonna support EQ forever. Eventually there will be no more EQ and everyone will have moved on. It's been a great run, but I believe the sun is starting to set on the game we all know and love. I know a bunch of people will say I'm wrong, that everyone may leave but they'll come back in a few months. That could very well be true, but it will happen one day. The idea that Alla shouldn't keep us informed on what's going on in the gaming world...well...it's just sad.

He is talking about why is a WoW news item in the Everquest wing of the Allakhazam site. It should be in the WoW wing of the site, not that I am bothered, I enjoy reading any news.

It's general gaming news, which means it shows up in the news section of all our sites. The front page of each site only gives news posts specifically related to that game. The news page gives game specific news and also general game news. I figured something like this was something most gamers wanted to know, so I posted it broadly.

Alla you rock! I am sure with your help we will be able to make the transformation away from EQ1 to whatever is next in our lives. I just hope you can use the same spiritual approach when Penn St. has to let go of Joe Pa.
keep your char.

according to fileplanet, it states that you will be able to retain your char from this finial stress test to the open beta. However there is no word if you will be able to keep them for retail release.
