Tired of EQ

I for one will be very happy when EQ2 comes out.... I also have/had more than one acct but gave them up for SWG (of which i now have 2 accts), to me all EQ is is a grind to the next level, nothing really to do... i have played EQ for 4 years and look forward to its next evolution
EQ to EQ2

Without some kind of migration from EQ to EQ2 I think the release will have serious problems. I for one have no intention of dropping my toons and starting over and most likely pay more monthly. I'd go to something else first. I've been watching closely...I'm sure the thought has crossed their minds.

EQ2

As far as the Tunare server, I can say that in all these months I have met a grand total of TWO players that said they will try EQ2.

Everyone else has my attitude... If I'm going to start over with nothing, it sure as hell will never be with a game sold by SOE.
EQ platinum = sony's final EQ money drive.

Sony releasing a comprehensive volume now = an 11th hour drive to siphon money from EQ before people disappear to EQ2...which none of these wonderful posts acknowledge.

I don't see many people leaving EQ for EQ2. I've worked for more than 5 yrs to get to where I am now (which compared to others is not too damn far, but I'm happy with it) I'm not giving it up to start over in another game, even if it is another EQ. Nobody I've asked has said they would switch either.
I bet that it will be popular, that it will attract many people to check it out, but I think that many will keep their old EQ accts, at least in the beginning. If it's as awesome as they want us to think it will be then maybe after a few months people will let their EQ accts die or sell them to others, could be a massive windfall for those websites that sell eq accts.
And if they let EQ die then like the captain of the ship, I will go down with it...and perhaps I could get back to sleeping at night again, might be a good thing.

I hardly believe that many people will go to EQ2... On the Bristlebane server, at least, whenever anyone ever talks about EQ2 everyone says they're not even goint to try it. I have asked in /ooc if anyone is interested and maybe 20 people said no and not one single person said they would get it. The only thing that bothers me is that SoE might not pay as much attention as they might have when EQ2 comes out. They say that EQ is going to continue simultanously with EQ2; like if a continent is discovered in EQ then it's going to be "re-discovered" in EQ2. Sony would never throw away such a money-maker. EQ is the #1 Online RPG and they would have to be stupid to let it slide away while it's doing as good as it is.

Hmmmmm, I never reckoned it this way. With EQ being hyper-popular, I naturally assumed the transition to EQ2 would be compulsory. I wondered how people could stay away. Quote: "EQ is the #1 Online RPG and they would have to be stupid to let it slide away while it's doing as good as it is." Correct. But when 2 is released, one of them must fail.

One word: nonsense.

Ultima Online started the "real" rush of MMORPG on the western side of the globe (not being racial, but the asians have had some major online games running for many years.. but they dont have the publicity the american companies have) - and its still going strong.

Dark Age of Camelot is still out there, going stronger than before.

StarWars Galaxies, after some rough starts, are falling nicely into its niche.

I could go on, but there isnt really a need - more and more people are getting computers, cheap internet and eyes for games like these. And every time someone new gets it - they want a new game. The idea of joining one thats 5 years old can be intimidating to some (I know it was to my friends, who never would have joined if they didnt have RL friends there - they joined 4 months ago). New games mean new chances where they can "start on same footing" as everyone else, and where they dont see themselves being 5 years behind.

SO in short: EQ will do just fine even though EQ2 comes it. The only reason they even share a name is cause of the setting having same history. It will generate its own userbase, and get its own footing in the industry - and do fine there, just like the other games.

PS: I dont intend to go to EQ2 either, but not cause starting over scares me. I have 5 years played, 3 accounts, and tons of hours invested in EQ... but I would drop it for friends. After almost 10 years of online gaming I just realised its not the game that matters, its the friends. The game is just a graphical interface by which I spend time with them. And since I have the friends I want here in EQ - why should I give them up to get some other ?

No thanks, only way I will move is if my friends want to move also - and with they system requirements of EQ2 thats not even remotely gonna happen atm.

Well, it takes a bit of an idiot to think that they should get old content for the same price as people who got it when it was current content. Its sorta like being pissed that people buy a car use for less money than you bought it new.

The expansions aren't worth their original value any more ... since they are outdated. If you had been more careful with your $175, you could have invested it in Microsoft in 1978, and had enough money to buy expansions at any price you want.

Nothing like ******** that other people got a bit of a break. Whine whine whine.

...times 7 means I only paid $175 for what they're giving away for $30? Thank you Sony, just another reason you won't get any more of my money.

People pay inordinate amounts of money for "cool" and "now" all the time. You could pay $11k for a cool 60" plasma TV now, you could spend $300 on a normal 32" TV now, or you could wait a few years and pay probably no more than $1-2k for that cool 60" plasma TV.

I think it's a good move on SOE's part. EQ2 is coming up, and EQ had to do something about its pricing structure if they wanted to compete. Heck, you can get EQ Trilogy and a month of play for free if you don't mind playing on Morden Rasp.

Humm - have they reduced the price of the expansions for existing subscribers to an equivalent price?

come now.... did you really think that $50 each was a good deal? considering what programmers get paid, and that they start working on new products immediately after completing one project ... not to mention that the whole process of mas production costs less than $2 per disc...

It's still a rip off, but MUCH less of one now. As for never giving sony anymore of your money, well that's your call, but don't get mad cause you WILLINGLY gave sony a massive proffit margin just like the rest of us did.

The original EQ cost $50 when it first came out and each expansion has been about $30 all by itself so this is certainly a great deal. In the spirit of what VampyreKnight said, it was a great business move. This is even good for current players who don't own all the expansions and were holding off to buy them.

To the original poster, Nothing personal but you're an idiot. EVERY game gets less expensive over time and those with expansions almost always offer packages with great saving later on. You pay the premium when you opt to buy things when they are first released and anyone with a brain knows it. The alternative is to wait for the savings but miss out on the fun.

Umm, more people able to buy all the expansions(some people wont play with just basic trilogy or missing a couple) means that Sony will be getting more revenue in terms of monthly basis.

Do you quit playing a 1 player game when they drop the price from 50$ to 20$?

Its a smart bussiness move, its like crack dealers giving their new prey a free taste before hooking them in for the big bucks, Platinum is the free smoke, monthly fees are the hook.

Hey VampyreKnight,

You'll give Sony whatever they ask for and you'll like it. Give me a break addiction is a tough mistress, we all keep giving Satan Online Entertainment our money, each and every month, so we can get our fix. Nice words though, very nice words!
