Summerfest!

Spring is over and it's time for Summerfest! At this time every year, adventurers gather in the towns to kick back and take a break from their usual daily activities. It is a time for players from all nations to come together and swap tales of their exploits. However, night is when Summerfest really heats up. The ensuing darkness sets the stage for a grand display of fireworks in the sky and on the ground. Countless bazaars line the streets and music fills the air. Adventurers of all shapes and sizes strike up conversations with complete strangers when not dancing hand in hand with their companions. The Moogles, as well, have devoted themselves to making this summer a memorable one. Participate in their events to receive wonderful items that will make your Summerfest even more exciting! Summerfest will be held from Jul. 23 to Aug. 8th, 2004. Experience the sights and sounds of this summer extravaganza in the following locations (from 19:00 to 6:00, Vana'diel time): West Ronfaure East Ronfaure Northern San d'Oria Port San d'Oria North Gustaberg South Gustaberg Bastok Mines Bastok Markets East Sarutabaruta West Sarutabaruta Windurst Waters Windurst Walls Windurst Woods Western Altepa Desert Eastern Altepa Desert Rabao Fireworks will be sold in these areas: West Ronfaure (G-8) South Gustaberg (J-7) East Sarutabaruta (J-7) Rabao (G-9) And finally, the Summerfest Moogles will be waiting for you in: Southern San d'Oria (J-9) Northern San d'Oria (D-8) Bastok Mines (I-9) Bastok Markets (G-8) Windurst Woods (K-10) Windurst Waters (F-5)

GOLDFISHING TIME!!!
# Aug 01 2004 at 9:02 PM Rating: Decent
Well, the moogles r gone and new NPCs have sprouted in the outland towns we know as Rabao(West and East Altepa Desert) and Norg(Yuhtunga and Yhoator Jungle). U go to the NPCs and ask them for a goldfish bowl and u can buy the Super Scoops(100gil) from them. U go to the water and do the regular fishing thing. BUT the fish u get are Tiny Goldfish(1 point) Black Bubble-Eye(2 points) and the Lionhead(10 points)

u trade the fishies to the NPC (that u got the stuff from) and u get the points

Items that u can get w/ points:

5 points: Super Scoop

10 points: Fans(i think in multiples of 3)

15 points: FIREWORKS!!!

30 points: Colored Drops(rarest is Black)

50 points: 12 Spirit Masques

hopefully u will save up for the beads then get the masques ... i think this is the best way to get the good stuff quicker...

These aren't created so you can cheep players out of thier hard earned gil.

I'm betting the people actually paying the large amounts of gil for these all to easy to get items aren't people with hard earned gil... probably people who sold off the crystals they just got while getting their first job to level 10. If you're referring to the Galka pimping himself out, well, if he has the lack of dignity to do that, a post saying how sick it makes probably won't affect the decision... just my 2 cents. :)
RE: Event parasites
# Jul 30 2004 at 2:25 AM Rating: Default
Ok well... here is the problem with making money from this event... I am quite certain it is expected that people will be selling fans and choco tickets... this is normal. However, the entire point of this event is to partner up with random people and do fun quests for each others' mutual benefit... key words there being FUN and MUTUAL!!! First of all I get angry at people "selling themselves" becuase that is not the purpose of the event (additionally it is pretty crappy of those of you that do it because, although the newbies you exploit may not know this, most people know that you are benefitting from the quest as well on top of getting paid because you are receiving fans/tickets). But here it is ya'll the number one reason, once again, purely my own theory...

YOU WILL ANGER THE JAPANESE PLAYERS! News flash you guys... the Japanese players have held this event before without us... and by using it for your own selfish gain, you are probably making them angry. They can very easily make it so that next year we do not get to participate, and thereby YOU will have ruined it for everyone... not cool. Seriously, it is supposed to be fun... I understand you might be hard up for gil, but most people are at some point or another... why, oh, why must you take something geared towards fun and use it to take advantage of the little newblettes???

Well... end of rant I suppose... as for you Cora... I wholeheartedly agree... and please know that there is a special place in He11 reserved for these kind of people. Thank you for saying what I am sure so many of us are thinking! (*^_^*)

I agree your Fun & Mutual theory, and it's true that we might ruin next year's Summer Fest, which would totally suck. Let's make this game a place where people respect each other, and that we don't always want to get profit from others. We need trust, respect, honesty. I asked someone to power level me for **** gils, I was a little scared when I hit 'OK' to trade the gils..the guy started to go away while saying 'Thanks, have fun bye'..I was like ..., then he turned back saying he was just kidding, but I know that a lot of people would've just kept running..and what can you do? Nothing! Why call a GM? They'll just tell you it was YOUR responsibility and choice to give him money or not. I say that we must trust to get trusted. We must respect to be respected. If one person starts this, others will follow. There will always be these b*st*rds but what can you do? Human nature..

Anyways, there are no super special items to get after the Lord's Yukata(sp?). You can get summer fans, festive fans, and chocobo tickets; I have gotten all three items and it seems to be random as to which item you get. Also a stack of summer fans or festive fans(99) are going for 50k on cerberus in bastok, or selling for 1000 a piece. Between fishing(while waiting to do quest again), questing, and selling the fans I've already made 200k and am well on my way to making my goal of 2 million for summerfest.

The normal Yukata is a level 1 all race gender specific "armour" that has a def of 1.

Lord Yukata is a level 1 all race gender specific "armour" that has a def of 2. It increases you "Goldfish scoping skill", kindda like the worker tunica increase mining, logging, etc...

A friend of mine has been asking me to help him with the paladin extra job quest for weeks now. Once we figured out the nature of the Summerfest quests we realized that getting to the Magical Well in Davoi would be a piece of cake.

We partied up and talked to the moogle and, conveniently enough, went straight to Davoi!

With the never-ending Sneak and Invisible the moogles provide he was able to walk straight to the well with out any aggro. He got the Knight's Soul with no trouble and was even able to complete the moogle quest afterwards ^_^

This technique requires a lot of luck to actually get to Davoi, but once you're there it's a snap.

Edit: After doing this several times it seems that a Male Hume/Mithra combo will get you to Davoi. Three times in a row this worked for us.

After doing a lot of searching around, I've discovered another lovely way to exploit the Summerfest (yay, me), this time with a quest originating in Bastok Mines.

A man named Virnage stands in the (I-5) area, in a hotel room, and will give you the quest "Altana's Sorrow", permitted your fame is high enough.

This quest uses the same trick as the two already mentioned, except that this time you must go to Garlaige Citadel, and find the Bucket of Paint on the first floor, around area (G-8)/(H-8). simple as that. then you can sell the scroll, or keep it, whatever, the point is it was so bloody easy that it almost feels like crime.

Enjoy this further exploitation, make some gil, have fun, whatever, as usual I'll come back with more exploitation wonders as I find them.

MORE SUMMERFEST EXPLOITATION GOODNESS!

You can also do the "To Cure A Cough" quest (which originates in Southern San d'Oria) very easily using this identical technique, going to the ??? point and selecting it. No trouble at all and it was some of the easiest 3,000 gil I ever made. Nice advice, Beckett, it's lovely. I'm looking for other ways to exploit this event as we speak, and I'll come back with any more. My condolences to those who miss the opportunity!

The Truth and the Rumor
# Jul 25 2004 at 4:44 AM Rating: Excellent
Ok, I've been seriously testing this. Here's how it REALLY works:

Quest #1: Basic Yakuto

Find a friend of either opposite sex or of another race. Journey into a dungeon together and locate a GoalPoint. The dungeon you enter is set based on certain factors (RUMOR: It is associated with your race and sex. I believe this, but haven't done enough to prove it)

Each race/sex gets a specific item:
Taru Male: Snickering Skull
Taru Female: Sniffling Skull
Galka: Rusty Tail Cutter
Mithra: Yhoator Flea Bag
Elvaan Male: Tome of Whispers
Elvaan Female: Tome of Moans
Hume Male: Dire Candle
Hume Female: Bloody Candle

You must trade your item to your partner, then trade that item to the moogle to obtain your reward. The moogle with then tell you of a "Special Prize".

---End Quest #1---

Quest #2 - Lord's/Lady's Yakuto

This part requires you repeat the above quest 4 times, and only four times. Each time MUST be with a different race/sex than your own and than the one you last used for this section.

RUMOR: You cannot do or complete these quests without wearing the Yakuto you obtained before. I didn't try this, I just wore the robe ^.^

To obtain the items you can:
- Partner with anyone who has NOT done it
- Use the same partner you did this with before
- Quest with those who already have the second item

You cannot:
- Buy these items to complete it
- Use the same race/sex combination over again

Once you have all four items you need, trade all four at one time and you will receive a Lord's/Lady's Yakuto.

---End Quest #2---

RUMOR!! Quest #3 RUMOR!!

There IS no quest #3.

And here are the pics to prove it:
http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v153/osg-rpge/proof1.jpg
http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v153/osg-rpge/proof2.jpg
http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v153/osg-rpge/proof3.jpg
http://img50.photobucket.com/albums/v153/osg-rpge/proof4.jpg

Pic #1 shows all the items have been collected.
Pic #2 shows the start of the trade.

Pic #3 is where it gets interesting. Note the text in white mainly. I says that I cannot obtain the lord yukata. Well, as we all know, if you possess a rare item, you cannot possess two of the same item. So, there you have it. The highest item IS the Lord's Yukata.

Pic #4 shows what you can get from the moogle. So now my undercover alt, Pawk, has blown this rumor to HELL! ^.^

So now, everyone can stop asking about this. If you find someone claiming it works, send them here ^.^

Also, trading in the Yukata's DOES NOT WORK! I tried it, and the moogle turns but does nothing.

I still have both robes.

MORE RUMORS

- The Goldfish scooping is another event to be held later in Summerfest

- Goldfish scooping will be a way of fishing in the expansion

- The items will be given out later in Summerfest, after this quest terminates.

Hmm... very interesting... a couple things though...
We have confirmed that turning in the 7 items DOES NOT get you anything related to goldfishing... this is confirmed at this time. If you trade in all 8 items including your own (fyi you CAN obtain your own item by just not handing it to one of your partners... i would hope to each other's mutual benefit lol... or there are some people selling the items) what will happen? I have no idea... but it's worth a shot right?
I will be attempting to hand in my first yukata according to your post... interesting idea... there are several possibilities there... like handing the first yukata in with all 7 items, hand it in by itself, etc....
The most realistic thing I have heard about goldfishing is that it will be available later during summerfest... I personally heard the 8th? However that is when summerfest ends so I guess it doesn't really make sense to do that.

********** CONSPIRACY THEORY TIME **********

What do I think? I think the Japanese players, having held this festival before (not open to NA players), know about the goldfishing. I think they know how to get the items and how to do the actual fishing and when it will begin. My theory is that NA and other English-speaking players will only know about this when a Japanese player deems it appropriate to tell one of us about it. Of course the person would have to speak english or the NA player would have to speak Japanese... but you get the point. Someone knows! And they re not talking! And they're probably reading this post right now laughing at us and all the crazy theories we have... think about it... :P

I guess I am not first- however I will confirm a few things from personal experience.

These are more advanced notes- look elsewhere for the basics of the quest. I could write an equally long basic FAQ of the quest- but you can figure it out easily by doing it/talking to the moogle.

I have done this quest at least 15 times now- some knowledge from my experiences.

You CANNOT go on a quest with a person of identical race/gender. The Moogle will say that it would not be fun to scare you because your reactions would be too similar.

After getting the Lady's Yukata I attempted to trade all seven items I could gain to the Moogle, then all seven items and the upgraded Yukata, then all seven and the first Yukata. Each time it said "You cannot obtain the lady's yukata. Try trading again when you have less items." Note- my inventory was not full (29/30). I highly suspect there are no further items at present (Sat night 7-23).

After getting the Lady's Yukata/Lord's Robe you CAN turn in one item at a time for special prizes- I have only done it once and received 15 Summer Fans- I hear "Festival fans" and Chocobo Tickets are also possibilities. Fans are an expendable item used to make a fan appear in your hand for a (very) short time. They have the respective kanji on them (summer/Natsu or Festival/Matsuri)Useless, but they are fun if you trade /emotes with a cute lil' Taru-Waru friend during the fireworks!

A hint- you DO NOT lose XP should you die on the quest. This means that you can die to return to your HP instead if using the glyph given to you. When you come back you will have full HP/MP. You will also have a the glyph on you still- so if you want to collect some glyphs this lil' exploit will be very useful. I was lvling SMN while doing the quests (very nice btw- you can lvl a lowbie job, and then just run back to town at around 0:00 for the next quest. I nvr used the scroll so I could run outside w/ full HP/MP and keep fighting immediately after the quest) Also- I hear you can keep multiple rare/ex items in a deliv. box, so you could save up glyphs on a mule or something if you really wanted to be sneaky.....I have a lil' plan for that myself......

Finally- several times I had a partner fail the quest (all Hume males in the Temple of Uggalepih; odd no?). If your partner zones or dies b/f reaching a goalpoint they can simply use glyph/HP back and speak to the moogle. The Moogle will give you the quest again (and a glyph I am 99% sure). I suspect this works with death/zoning anytime before you actually examine the goalpoint. Whenever I saw a partner zone out of the quest area and back in (not go talk to the Moogle and come back!) they were restored to full HP/MP- so I suspect that you lose all "buffs" the Moogle gives you.

One last bit of advice- after you manually cancel your invis. your status row will still have the little box around it. You must "cancel" out of this state b/f you can examine the point- so be ready to do that quickly should you be in an agro possible situation (though it seems Square was careful to put the GP in spots with little agro potential, I did see no less than 5 people die at one GP with a marauding temple bee...oh the carnage. I myself was at 50% on my warp scroll when he turned around and agroed me.....)

Feel free to rate the above as "excellent" anytime now... ;) I mean come on- I even spelled "Uggalepih" right!

The above quest explanation is great!

I would also like to add that there can be two (or more?) goalpoints in the same dungeon. For example, in Gustav I found the goalpoint at J-6. My partner could not find me (probably b/c I give horrid directions) and she found the goalpoint at G-9.
RE: Advaced Quest Info
# Jul 25 2004 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
Just to confirm some things that you have mentioned.

If you zone out of the area, you lose all buffs given by moogle (including lvl 1 cap). I assume that if you were to die after zoning, you would lose exp like normal. Just use your Glyph to teleport back, talk to the moogle, and you'll start in the *same position that you started in the first time (with a new Glyph -- 100% sure)

If you for some reason didn't get the item and warp back (ie. Your inventory was full, and didn't realize it), you and your partner are both able to warp back to the area to get the item you missed.
RE: Advaced Quest Info
# Jul 25 2004 at 4:53 AM Rating: Excellent
I can confirm that.

Playing as Arn (I do have another char whose name I don't divulge), I zoned out of Crawler's nest. I tried arming up myself and heading back in.

BIG MISTAKE!

I was only lvl 20 RDM with lvl 18 gear. I sneaked but the bees aggro'ed on sight.

I lasted two hits, died and lost EXP as normal.

I can also confirm all of the following:
- You can die and not lose EXP
- When you zone, you do NOT regain HP/MP. You are left with only what HP/MP you had as lvl 1
- You can warp yourself out with another other means (That means if you have an Instant Warp scroll or if you chanced zoning, resting, and casting Warp), and you do not lose the Glyph

Things I cannot/have not confirmed:
- Do the glyphs purge post Summerfest?
- Can you do like other Rare items and del box these? (Yes this does work. Send them to yourself and it does work. Check the Cold Light of Day quest for Bastok)
no other items
# Jul 24 2004 at 11:14 PM Rating: Decent
The question of "What happens if you turn in all 7/8 items at once" has been poping up alot. The 1st part is easy, you cant turn in your own item to moogle. So, if you turn in the other 7 items (and have key item pictures for each race/sex) while wearing the Lady/Lord Yukata, what happens?

NOTHING!

Aside from getting choco tickets and fans, there are no other items/bowl/net. Not to say they wont have a game, event, or quest later. But as of now, nothing.

Credit for testing this goes to Isra of the pandamonium server. Thanks Isra for answer so many ppl's question, and hopefully clearing up alot of spam.

Congrats to you- you ripped people off. It's lucky your FF XI character never sleeps or he/she might lose some.

As a note- the only reason to buy one of the quest items from a bazaar is if you somehow didn't get the inventory item from your partner (ie- you hit okay in trade b/f they post their item and unscrupulously take yours w/o giving you theirs). The quest items cannot be traded to the moogle for prizes w/o the matching "key item" that you gain when you reach your goalpoint. So if your partner just CAN'T find a goalpoint, you could get the key item from finding YOUR GP and then buy the matching inventory item from a bazaar. I guess you could also get one to run around with a "Rusty Tail Cutter" in your bazaar just to intimidate people.

I got an item from each other race, and had the corresponding 4 portraits in my key items. So why is it that when I trade the 4 items to the moogle, he wont give me the Lord's Yukata? He just says something about ot having gotten his special prize or something... One person in my linkshell got it just fine, but there's 2 others having the same problem. Anyone else had this problem, and is there any solution?
RE: Lord's yukata

Ok... in order to end the confusion... to get the first Yukata you can do one run with any race/gender besides yourself. In order to obtain the next Yukata you must obtain 5 ITEMS TOTAL... not 4 as I saw stated in an earlier post which was then corrected... 5 items other than your own. As for the goldfishing thing... rumors on my server confirm that after you have obtained the second Yukata, if you turn in all of the items you should receive goldfish scooper and/or goldfish bowl (I am sorry I don't know if you receive these items separately or one at a time). Additionally, by "all the items" I don't know if they meant all 7 except yours or all 8 total. Also once obtaining the second Yukata turning in random items one at a time should get you things like choco tickets and summer fans which are super cool! Hope this info helps... furthermore

THIS FEST IS AWESEOME!!! This is by far the best special event they have ever run since I have begun playing (which if I remember correctly was last october). Rock on POL... rock on!!!

I only traded in four items to get the Lord's Yukata. My friend however tried trading four items and couldn't get it... WTF?? Well, we figured out wtf. One of the four items he tried trading the second time was the single item he traded for the first yukata. He then proceeded to do the quest with a male taru, a race/gender he did not have yet, and traded all four items besides the above mentioned already traded item. So, based on that i think that on your path to get the Lord's Yukata you have to trade in four items that you haven't yet traded in at all. Just to be absolutely clear, if you traded in Dire Candle for the first time, it would be useless to do the quest again with a hume/male unless you want the candle for after you get the second yukata so you can try for some choco tickets or fans or somthin'.
