Can pets trade too?
# Jul 14 2004 at 12:25 AM Rating: Decent
I can just see it . . .

I just finished a great couple hours
with a nice group and my pet that con's red,
I'd hate to log now and loose em.

Ahh, I know, I'll go to the bazaar and
sell that old crap and still have my
kick-*** pet!
Sweet.

I see alt/trader characters being used less often
and people tripping over trader pets, hahaha.
-------

Edit note:
Ah darn, I just read that when you zone with
a pet, you get a new random model as if you
re-cast em, he/she looses all buffs but retains
any weapons.

LDoN Solo
# Jul 11 2004 at 4:34 PM Rating: Default
Soloing in LDoN zones. Try getting a group at 12 midnight with your ranger, next to impossible. All I hear is LDoN group LF Cleric, Tank, etc. Would be nice to be able to get my spells without having to wait 3 hours for a group
Just a rant.

Personally I'm looking forward to EQ2. No one seems to be bothered in the least about the rampant buff selling in the POK. Sure it's great for powerleveling, but I feel, and I'm sure others agree with me, EQ has no roleplaying grist. The quests and faction are ok aspects, but nothing a player does makes a difference in the game world. The quests don't "immerse" the player in the storyline. A mob is there to be killed, that's it. I think it would be neat to have a diplomacy skill or some kind of non battle skill that can add a layer of complexity to the game, or perhaps even change the mobs mind about fighting a particular battle. Other non roleplaying issues are abundant. POK buff selling is rampant, mobs are mindless. E.G. why is Dvinn so static in crushbone, he just appears and no one knows why. Is he planning something? Making a deal or spying on the orcs? No, sadly he's just another dead ended storyline mob for newbs to kill and higher lvls to farm. You can repeat this scenario ad neauseum for other zones. For instance, wouldn't the mobs get tired of pc's endless incursions and slaughter parties and wage some kind of unified attack. That would be an neat GM event. Back to the buff selling, how often in Tolkein, Dragonlance, or any other well thought out fantasy realm do spell casters act like streetcorner salesman with endless supplies of magical boons to bestow on the odd adventurer. That's fine in small doses, the best fantasy movies have it, but production line buffing is just about as crass as it gets. Anyway, I'll be glad when eq2 comes out. Sound, graphics, good quests, dynamic content(hopefully) and better storytelling will rekindle my joy for the game. PLS FLAME AWAY... -_-
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 07 2004 at 10:42 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok pets zoneing i have no problem with that not too much of an overpowering issue at the moment, but what about the solo LDoN content that i hear was/is/maybe comming out in the next xpac? If solo LDoN style zones are comming i hope the the buffs will be striped from pet when zoneing in to these type of encounters, will just overpower pet classes too much. Lets see we buff pet with Pot9/kaz Fo7 BSS and what ever stamana buffs avalable will add about 1/3rd extra hp to the pet from a level 65 pet user and lower level players heh need i mention the advantage they will get.

Lay Off the casters, if it wasn't for casters being support players these past 4 yrs then Melee types wouldn't be the levels they are, so what if a mage can solo in a new LDON with a buffed pet. What youare suggesting means that melee classes should be stripped of buffs too if soloing. Let's see a Mage for example has if lucky 5k HPs fully buffed and add a pet with 4k HPs maybe 5500 HPs buffed you are looking at 10k roughly. I know Ogre Warriors that have 14k HPs should they be stripped of buffs if soloing too? Now if you feel that you are too powerful soloing YOU remove YOUR buffs, otherwise let casters have fun soloing. Just remember tanks First Aid 3,Imp Regen 3, and a pack full of bandages you too can be a good soloist.

As for PoK, why not do what they did with Bazaar and make a hotkey to make npc invisible. Why slam casters why not slam melee for uber armor class, uber hit points and uber attack ability... why not because it all balances out eventually.

lol do you even play a melee class or ever try one above lvl 30??
The thing is you and your pets will be buffed = 2 highly buffed objects killing mobs melee = 1 highly buffed object trying to kill mobs hmm thats not fair if ya ask me. Your example of war with 14Khp would be an exception(what is he in full high elem / time gear?) to the rule the solo adventures simulare to LDoN, they would run off lvl how could thay run off gear?? Ever see Rogue a try solo a lvl 51-55 mob? with buffs it's a close fight with good gear and normaly ends with the rogue pulling something out of his **** like runing all his disc's from the start (deadeye, counter attcak, twisted chance)to win one fight. (btw in case ya don't know those Discs have about a 1/2 hr reuse time)

Face it wars were never ment as a solo class they are the backbone of a group. So stop whining about your little ability to solo.If you want to solo make a necro / bst / druid / bard / shammen / mage .Try asking how hard it is to get a group as a necro .
RE: Nice but...
# Jul 13 2004 at 9:16 AM Rating: Good
Actually I do have a melee and he is a Rogue Dark Elf and such and his non-kos in all home cities save for Halas(which I am working on after being away for 2yrs). As for soloing a Rogue well at 51 I can solo a Frost Giant Beserker while buffed with Fo7 and other such nice things, no epic yet and blood point is proc'ing like mad. Sure I take a beating but I can solo...Ok the time limit will hamper you a bit but Focus of Will has a 6 min re-use I believe and at 40+ your bind wounds should be max'd unless you got PL'd and you wasted time making a generic rogue lacking in skills. Melee types doing Solo's is a challenge I agree, but caster classes such as mages(Veriant's most hated class)could stand to have a break from the abuse they have suffered for 4 yrs. I think people point out mages but they leave Shaman's alone because a Shaman can buff the hell out of his/her pet, equip it with a kit upon entering and solo better than a mage can with root, more DoT's, the same anti-resistance spells and put Fo7 on even green pets(since this hasn't been fixed yet). So if pets get Buff stripped why not melee & casters too for that matter? Be fair strip away one, strip away all. It's about time Magicians get an even break.
One more detail you forgot to mention. The average AC of a Caster is around 600 to 1000 & HPs of 1800 to 4600, but the average Melee AC is 1500 to 2200 & HPs 6000 to 8000 and that is unbuffed. So the balance is there you just have to figure out how to work it.
RE: Nice but...
# Jul 14 2004 at 1:48 PM Rating: Decent
Ok u r a freaking idiot... The AVERAGE in your eyes is like Time geared melee with all AAs. I am a 62 Warr (main). I have been playing for 2 years with breaks every now and then. And the true averageo of a warr is 4.5k - 5k HP unbuffed with about 1300AC. And if u want to talk so much about fair fine... why dont they just strip everyone of all their gear and spells aswell as buffs? Would that be fair to u? quit complaining bout debuffing pets, I dont complain about not being able to nuke a mob for 1500HP. There is a reason that tanks and all classes for that matter have the spells and abilities that they do. If u want lots of buffs but dont want a caster to cast em on u go buy potions or clicky items... and another thing ive seen casters that have 1100 AC, u know why? cause they go and work on Defence... if u get hit and defence goes up then so does ur AC. Quit complaining and be happy with the way the game is or stop freaking playing all together.

Oops Mr Mage just thought of a new use for Monster Summoning III, go to Oasis summon a Sand Giant and port to PoK. Mages are going to have Monster Summoning pets more often now. Summon a gryphon in EC, Summon a human in NRO LDON, Frogloks from guk, oooo the possibilites. Dire Charm a Jugg from Old Seb, or a Wvyern from Great Divide.

This is going to be great for my necro. The only problem I can think of is that I go invisable a lot, and that kills pets... I always go invis to zone into Plane of Innovation; 10% of the time there's a train happening right when you zone in.
Also:

~Can summon monster work? That'd be funny to see an Ice Giant in PoK, or maybe in a Ldon (heh how would he fit?)

~Can low-lv pets recieve Virtue or any other lv- required buffs? A lv 4 mage could summon-up a pet and head on over to Paludal and come out at lv 12 in a metter of seconds. /ooc Can I get V for my pet at Nexus stone?

~Probally yes, but will your pet's buffs have a count-down on them too?

~Using the AA ability "Suspended Minion" (I know Necromancers get it, but I dunno if other classes do) will your suspended pet zone as well as your active pet?

~Lets say your pet is lost somewhere across the zone and you zone while he's miles away... will he zone with you, or is there a distance-limit? Also will he zone with you if you get a Port/TL or if you use a gate spell or if you succor?

Heh, I probally should just wait 'till tomorrow and see for myself, eh?
Finally! :)

Im wondering if this works with Inspect Group Buffs leadership ability.... and detrimental spells also. or only beneficial spells

On the test server it works with all buffs oyu have.... If its in your effect window put your mouse over it a blue thing will come across with the name of the effect and the time left till it leaves. The leadership effect lets you see other peoples buffs, as well as your own. This one shows your own.

Regarding Legends
# Jul 03 2004 at 9:32 AM Rating: Default
I have played plenty of roleplaying games. Heres my resume of being a complete goober up to date:

Pen and Paper D&D
Dungeons and Dragons on Intellivision <Ha!>
Various text MUDS
Ultima Online (and expansions)
Asheron's Call
More text MUDS including Gemstone III
Diablo II online
Asherons Call II
Lots on PS2 games <Final fantasy..blah blah>
Everquest

Now, I'm not saying a Platinum server or Legends server should not exist. Some people spend their entire life devoted to one-upping everyone else or wanting an "exclusive" area to play games. What I will say however is that on many of these games certain items, zones, experience bonuses, armor dye <AHEM..Ultima Online..Cough> were only made available to the hardcore players or people willing to spend 20-30 dollars more a month on a game. Personally, I think all updates should be available for all players and if they want, up the general price like 2 or 3 dollars. Let the 65th level people have Legends but don't deny others the opportunity to see new zones and whatnot. Yes, you have to "pay" if you want extra things but be reasonable. I already spend way too much money trying to keep my computer updated, on expansions that seem to come out bi-monthly, 12.95 monthly and online service of 21.95 a month <Not to mention I pay for 2 accounts and computers because my husband and I play together>. All in all, I spend ALOT of money just for this game and would like the extra perks as well. If I paid 40.00 a month I probably wouldn't buy the expansions as often or upgrade my computer's graphics card, memory etc to keep up and would eventually give up playing this game and move to another that was priced and planned fairly.

RE: Regarding Legends
# Jul 06 2004 at 6:07 AM Rating: Good
Break it down though, $12.95 a month plus your extra $12.95 plus the internet connection (which I am sure you use for more then just EQ) = pretty darn cheap entertainment for a full month. Eat out a couple times, or go to a theme park, or go to the movies and you have already spent more money then what you pay for EQ. =)

Pressure from the competition finally forcing some long-need
# Jul 02 2004 at 8:01 PM Rating: Good
Seems like the upcoming release of World of Warcraft has Sony a little on edge, as well it should. I am happy to see that there will finally be someone putting the pressure on Sony to actually allocate personnel to fix problems quickly rather than ignoring players' legitimate complaints regarding certain things. Pet shrinking... particularly for Beastlords... my god this problem has gone on FAR too long, and should never have been an issue in the first place. Raiding with a beastlord pet that can only be shrunk once is a terrible hindrance, and became a problem only after that odd patch day during which pets were summoned at approximately 400% normal size.

Pets zoning with their owners. Well that's a no-brainer if I ever heard of one. Too bad it took over 5 years for them to finally decide to implement something so fundamental. In any case, I am extremely happy to see it going live at last.

The other 4 big changes; Retention of augmentations after removal from items, Mana displaying a numeric value, Buffs showing their remaining duration, and the new Veeshan's Peak...
Seems like EQ will finally be getting a makeover that isn't just another addition of pretty graphics, and we don't have to buy an expansion to get these changes! /boggle

Go Blizzard! Crack that whip, and fix our EQ indirectly!

Now we will begin seeing an inundation of "Paying 100p for a full set of uber pet gear ... PST" as well as the KEI and Virtue we always see IMO Smiley: cool

While my BL is only 35 and my DRU only has that cute little <worthless> bear, I would sure like to be a Mage now, hehehe

Is it true that when you log off your pet will be waiting for you when you get back on? It only makes sense if it is true, because how many people would want to let their pets die just because they are going out to dinner Smiley: clown

I bet the person that logs out with their pet and logs back in forgetting about the new expansion will have a mess in their drawers when they pop back in to a big tiger licking their face, or an air elemental hovering by their arm Smiley: laugh

This has never been the case - Beastlords originally had the ability to automatically resummon their pet after zoning, but it was a new pet with no buffs or toys on it.

Now, we can make one pet, buff it, and give it toys. It lives across zone boundaries, it lets you camp out and log onto another character for a short while and then come back to your buffed pet, or you can reboot your machine and retain your pet. The pet dies if you do or it does, or if you get summoned (mage coth). Pretty spiffy change and, NO, this has never been in EQ before.

Legends? HA! Wallet gouging...
# Jul 02 2004 at 5:38 PM Rating: Decent
Welcome to EverQuest. Pay $13 a month, and you get the bare minimum. Pay $40 a month (more than the game costs in the first place), and you get customer service and zones not available anywhere else!!!

SOE needs to wise up and elminate Legends. That was the worst mistake they ever made...

Legends Mistake #1) Alienating the casual players from the power players. By doing this, you've removed the main source of learning from the casual players and newbies, and also (usually) made the level 65s on each non-Legends server think they're uber and are now (usually) stuck up and won't help a new player out because it's beneath them. I have a level 50 Cleric and I'm working to keep a good name as I get higher in levels.

Legends Mistake #2) Lack of customer service on all non-Legends servers. When Legends was released, most GMs were moved there to provide true 24/7 GM assistance, while the rest of the servers were reduced to one GM per two servers. Average petition response time on Legends is a couple hours. Other servers? A week is a fast response.

Legends Mistake #3) Lack of GM Events. GM events are what drew me back into this game after leaving in 1999. My friends (who played on Legends) told me about these, and I though they'd be cool. Well...I pay $13 a month and I've seen two GM events and a single guide telling a story in four months on Tunare.

Legends Mistake #4) Legends exclusive zones. We paid the same for EQ and it's expansion as those on the Legends server. We should get the same content without having to pay $40 a month (which is more than the game costs in the first place).

I'm sure there are a few items I missed about Legends. But aside from my rant and the addition of (yet) another Legends-only zone, I like the way this coming update sounds.

I see no reason for that whatsoever.

Alienating the casual players from the power players

Casual players were alienated from power players LONG before Legends was ever even thought of. My response to that "alienation"? /shrug Certainly I've not felt looked down upon by the 65th levels characters on Veeshan; if anything, for the most part, they're helpful, friendly, & willing to chat.

If you want to see REAL 65th level jerks, go play on Sullon Zek.

Quote:
Lack of customer service on all non-Legends servers.

This is really only an issue on the PvP servers, which are so badly under-populated they might not even exist. They wouldn't, either, if it weren't for the need of a few places where the bad attitude refuse of EQ could go to, play their little gank games, & not bother anyone else. I simply have not found any crushing need for CSRs on Veeshan. Sure there's problems, but nothing I've seen yet has been a game-stopper.

I only wish they added more options to the petion menus.

Quote:
Lack of GM Events.

Well, maybe these things are important to some people, but they're certainly not important to me, & I'm not going to demand that the Legends server be shut down, just so the other 45-odd servers could occasionally have a few more GM Events.

Quote:
We should get the same content without having to pay $40 a month

It's pretty simple: if you want the extra content, pay the extra money. If you don't want to pay extra money, then the extra content can't possibly be a big enough issue to you.

All in all, I just don't see where opening the Legends server qualifies as the biggest mistake SoE has made yet. IMHO, the biggest mistake is pushing out expansion after expansion, without first addressing any of the issues from the previous expansions, let alone the original game.

As for the patch: I'm stoked. I can't wait for buff timers, & being a Magician, I'm excited at the thought of my pets zoning with me.

In my humble opinion, I'd still rather spend the $480 a year to go on a vacation than to play a game. Don't get me wrong, EQ can be great fun, and $40 isn't so bad when you've got the money to spend, but personally, I see it as an unnecessary waste of good money. Sure you get a few things extra, but if you're working for a living, living outside of your parents home, and paid not quite enough to drive a nice, fast car, then $12 a month is adequate.

I'm VERY happy to see a countdown timer coming to the buffs slot...no more trying to guess how long that KEI buff you just paid for is going to last, and wondering if it'll make it through another quick LDoN. (same can be said of Temperance and other big buffs).
Though...what about invisibilty buffs which seem to have a random timer on them? I wonder if the new timers will tell you how long that will last...or possibly just display question marks...or what.

As for mana showing a numeric value, that's another "ABOUT TIME!" thing. Now you'll KNOW when you finally have enough mana to cast, instead of guessing by percent or worse, bubbles.
Pet's zoning with masters...great idea as well...now pets can be summoned and buffed before going into dangerous zones. Will charmed pets work this way too?
Augs not being destroyed when removed from an item is fantastic...I really think this should have been done from the beginning. After all, you're paying 10plat or so for the solvent to remove the aug in the first place...will be great to be able to keep whatever bonus the aug gave you.
Looking forward to this update . =)

Yes it is a nice update. The pet zoneing will certainly save a few seconds in LDoN adventures - get that pet ready before starting the adventure, not after, It does make the hugely expensive pet related AA where group buffs also apply to pet buffs slightly more desirable.... Not to mention the savings in tiny daggers and bone chips....

That'd be weird if charmed pets could zone... a mob that is not suposed to be in that zone, is suddenly in there. What happenes when the charm breaks? The zone crashs? the mob despawns? It'd be just a mess if charmed pets zoned. Think about it, charming a hill giant or some upper lvl mob like those in Halls of Honor then taking them to like. Qeynos breaking charm zoning and htey kill all the noobs that leave the gate... Fun to watch but it'd be a hassle. With any luck the mob would attack the guard

Nope - no charm pets cross the zone line. Summoned pets only, since they are part of the global everquest information whereas the charmed pets are zone specific.

You can take the normal summoned pets across zone lines, and camp out or reboot or whatever, and retain the pet (same rules as summoned items follow). This works great, I used it a lot already.

Mage Monster summoning does work like a normal summoned pet though. Ever time you zone, it gives you a new model from that zone. Zoning back and forth, you get a random model each time it seems. It does retain the buffs you gave it, and it does retain pet toys. If you die (or go LD) the pet goes poof.
Isn't that just nifty

The mana numberical value is going to be a huge help to me. Now if we could only get some counter to show the exact % rate at which mana and are increasing with buffs included I'd be impressed.

Zoning pets... nice.. about time.

Shrinking pets... not a minute too late to get this one finally fixed.

New Zone for legends... I hope they are going to move some of the older ones that are legends only to live servers soon.

New Veeshan's Peaks! Glad to see it's not just legends getting this one.

Saving augs! Too bad I didn't know this was coming sooner, I've destroyed more than a couple augs to sell old gear. I'm glad I'll be able to keep my hard earned augs.

Only thing missing from this patch was giving pally's back the ability to silence...

WHERE IS THE PALLY SILENCE!?!?!?!?!?!
