EVE Valkyrie: New Hands-On Reactions

From the floor of EVE Vegas 2014, read the newest player reactions on CCP's VR dogfighter.

You've heard our take on EVE: Valkyrie before. We played at Fanfest 2014 and loved it. We just attended EVE Vegas 2014, played again, and loved it once more. But what about...you? What's the verdict from everyone else?

We talked to dozens of Valkyrie players throughout EVE Vegas. Their consensus? Overwhelmingly positive. Nearly unanimous feedback that Valkyrie & VR is downright incredible. Check out our favorite post-game reactions highlighted below!

That was wild. I'm a Wing Commander aficionado, and that was like Wing Commander on super-steroids. That was amazing.

I've played multiple times. It's just gotten better each and every time. It's minor tweaks from Fanfest, but it's just so unbelievable to give it a shot. If you haven't yet, you gotta f*ckin' do it. And of course, you can't beat having Katee Sackhoff in your ear.

I'm just happy to find a CCP game I'm actually good at for once!

Unbelievable. I see that changing gaming completely. I can't fathom what's possible now that that's out there.
ZAM: "Have you used a VR headset before?"
I haven't, but needless to say...if that comes out, I'm getting it immediately.

It's something I could see my kids beating me at very easily!

What I like the most is...it's very, very smooth. Something like this, I wouldn't expect it to be so immersive, but...because it's so smooth, it's seamless. It feels really good. Once they get a little higher on the headset definition, I will pretty much never leave my chair.

It was great! My favorite part about the VR is just being able to do a basic maneuver while keeping your eyes on your target – so you never actually lose them. You don't need to use another control to look at them, you just use your head.

It's definitely getting smoother – didn't get as much of a headache this year. I know that's a big offset for a lot of people on VR.

Holy sh*t, that was amazing! Yeah, that was incredible. It was so immersive! At first I was a little disoriented, but after I got the grasp of it...oh my god.

I had two people behind me with Missile Locks...I was flying through asteroids, taking some of those Missiles out, spamming countermeasures like crazy. I could see their dots on the heads-up, and I know they're there, but I can't turn around fast enough!

It was awesome. I'm excited about it! I can't wait. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is beautiful. I've never played a game like that.
ZAM: "Have you used a VR headset before?"
I haven't. It's awesome. It's crazy. You can turn around and see the back of the ship. It's awesome. It's beautiful too. The graphics are supreme.

Super fun. It's really immersive. If there was anything that would convince me to buy an Oculus Rift, it would definitely be Valkyrie.

I'd buy it right now if it was for sale.

The game has improved so much. The DK2 is so much better than the original DevKit. It was really really hazy when you played it. When they went to the HD sets that they had last year at Vegas, it was a lot better...but with this new motion capture that they've got, it's way way way way better.

As soon as I got in there, it felt actually really intuitive. Just to look around, it's like "Okay, someone's over there, go that way! Someone's shooting me, barrel roll, hit the brakes, do something, get out of there!" It was...I want one. Develop quicker, gimme!

It's my first time playing it. It's my first time playing on an Oculus Rift too, so it took a little bit to get used to that and get used to the controls. Once I got used to it, it was a lot of fun. I was able to find someone and steal a kill!

It's fabulous. It's the 4th time I've played Valkyrie, and it's...it's like no other gaming experience I've ever had. It's truly immersive in a way that I thought I'd be lucky to see in my lifetime, and it's here now.
