Skyforge: Fighting Fair in PvP

Obsidian Entertainment reveals how PvP battles in Skyforge will be handled.

It's tricky to make a balanced PvP system in an MMO, but the team at Obsidian Entertainment thinks it has a plan in motion to make their fights fair. In the most recent Skyforge blog post, we learn about the theory and practice behind the fighting fair approach, and get a preview of the PvP maps that will be present at the beginning of beta.

Instead of aiming for a system where all PvP is created equal, Skyforge has a clear goal of using their matchmaking system to smartly pair equally geared players together in matches. These ranked matches should keep even balancing so that no one person vastly can overpower another.

While some designated PvP areas will be accessible to everyone, others will require you to build up Prestige and your skill to unlock them. Prestige is akin to a total of your character development; use your content rewards to build your character and raise your Prestige number.

When beta kicks off, there will be five PvP areas available:

  • Lugran Research Base: 6-player free for all
  • Kingezi Arena: 3v3 team deathmatch
  • Rise of Immortals: 8v8 capture & control points
  • Alcedon Facility: 8v8 payload delivery
  • Esten Quarry: 12v12 capture the flag

Strategy and tactics are key to successful battles in Skyforge's PvP. Be prepared, work on your Prestige and get ready to fight!
