Xbox One: Kinect-less for $399

Once claimed impossible, Microsoft will be offering the Xbox One sans Kinect.

We all knew this day was coming, didn’t we?

Microsoft has announced that, starting June 9th, you can grab a Kinect-less Xbox One for $399 – a $100 price drop from the bundled version. This is on the heels of their announcement that streaming apps like Netflix, YouTube, and ESPN will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold account.

The PR spin is uncomfortably transparent, labeling the unbundling move as "Delivering More Choice for Fans." Microsoft insists the Kinect is "...an important part of (their) vision," but there’s no doubt the past year has forced their hand. The move is a clear signal that Microsoft wants needs to compete with the Playstation 4 at the $399 price point.

To give them full credit, these are very good moves. We applaud them for making the jump!
We’re just concerned it’s a bit too late.
