Fantasy Steampunk MMO to be the follow up to Age of Wushu

Snail Games is a company that feels pretty happy with the way things are going at the moment. Its big foray into the Western MMO market, Age of Wushu, has been popular enough to warrant opening an extra server while collecting mainly favorable reviews.

Today the company announced that it would not be taking too much of a breather after Wushu's launch. In fact, Snail is pressing ahead with its next MMO, Black Gold.

What will immediately excite many fans is the game world's mixture of fantasy and steampunk; a genre mix with many devotees and one that's currently underutilized, particularly in the West.

Partly using the Flexi engine that powers Age of Wushu, Black Gold promises over 3000 dynamic events, PvE and PvP content along with resource competition in the midst of giant steam-powered walking cities. As a player, you will have to decide whether to align yourself to the magical or steam industry influences. What it all actually means we will have to wait and see, but here's an announcement video to whet your appetite.

Does your first impression of Black Gold make you want to jump in a steam-powered dirigible?

I'm impressed it's not just a CGI trailer, it has some, what looks like in-game footage. Something I'm glad they did, CGI is nice to flesh out story and what-not, but to get a feel for the game in-game play is needed, and they did that.

Not often I'm into the steampunk genre, but this looks interesting, and the environments still look varied.
