HAWKEN Announced as Project SHIELD Launch Title

The FPS Mech Game HAWKEN will be a Project SHIELD Launch Title.

A couple days ago our own Bill "Lethality" Leonard reported the announcement for the new Project SHIELD mobile gaming platform from Nvidia. The device is able to run Android apps or stream games running on a PC. During the press conference announcing the system, one of the co-founders from Adhesive Games (the studio behind HAWKEN) took to the stage for a quick match of their game on the new device.

Some might have noticed that the game didn't look like the PC game that could have been streamed to the device. And they would be correct. The version of HAWKEN shown during the demo was not being streamed from a PC, but instead was an early build of the Android version of the game.

How early of a build is it? According to a follow-up by Kotaku with Nvidia, Adhesive Games had only just received the hardware before Christmas and spent part of the holidays getting the demo ready for show.

But that isn't the only interesting bit from the follow-up. According to Nvidia, the game runs exclusively on the Tegra 4 chip that Project SHIELD runs on. Do you know what other Android system uses the old Tegra 3 chip that apparently won't be capable of running HAWKEN? The Ouya.

Project SHIELD is set for a mid-2013 release. According to the press release from the HAWKEN team more information about the Android version won't be released until closer to the SHIELD launch.
