Resident Evil Cosplayer Detained by Police

Police detain a cosplayer after the "armed man" was seen running into a bank.

Over the weekend the anime convention NebrasKon was held in Omaha, Nebraska. As with any anime convention the cosplaying community came out in force, but for one cosplayer the convention brought a little more excitement than expected.

Jonathan Menough was detained by police after innocent bystanders called police reporting an armed man running into a bank. Menough was attending the convention in a Resident Evil cosplay outfit when he needed to make a run for more cash.

"Was out just making a bank run," Menough said, "and someone thought that wasn't okay."

The police, believing him to be a shooter, took appropriate precautions using a high-risk response with guns drawn. But after the police learned that Menough was just in costume for the convention they let him go, laughing it all off. Menough took the turn of events in his stride, even saying afterward "that's [the officers'] job, I cannot blame them."

Just remember to take appropriate steps staying safe while cosplaying. While convention goers are used to seeing prop weapons, outsiders seeing them might not be as understanding. And if you need to go to the bank, please walk, don't run, or at least take a Pikachu with you...
