Caltu’s Match Of The Day

I chose this as my match of the day because it has a little bit of everything in it.

The beginning from Socke is very well thought out with his phoenix gateway pressure.  It could have been able to kill off some probes if Stork decides to engage the zealots or kill off the nexus should he decide to protect his mineral line.

With a little luck on his side he manages to get his phoenix’s killing probes AND killed off the nexus with the sentry zealot push.

With such a small ramp on Daybreak most PvPs are focused around keeping the enemy out with minimal force fields from as little sentries as possible, Socke turns this on his head and keeps a two base Protoss out from his expo with force fields below.

This transforms into a great macro game from both players, with Stork showing that the Brood War players have the mechanics to get out of any tight situation, they are placed in and bring it to a very even mid - late game.

Series III - Socke P vs Stork P

Game  I

The second broadcasted PvP of the MVP brings the German Protoss Socke up against Stork, representing the Proleague on Daybreak.

Socke goes for an early stargate build versus the robotics build of Stork.

Stork takes the earlier expansion with the safety of his robotics as Socke gets map control and attacks the worker line of Stork with a flock of phoenix’s.

Socke then takes this to his full advantage by making sure that the stalker based army of Stork is focusing on defending the main bases mineral line. While this is occurring Socke warps in a group of sentries and zealots that forcefield the main army up the ramp and kill the nexus setting the game back to even.

Socke then makes sure that he remains in the lead by taking earlier colossus tech and upgrades.

Both then spend the majority of the game racing out their own upgrades and the perfect unit composition.

Socke attempts a couple of mid game pushes but lacks the key ingredient of zealot charge for the first engagement and a forward pylon for the second, rendering them ineffective.

Stork is the more aggressive with constant warp prism harass that manages to take out key production facilities in the main base and Socke’s third base.

The main engagement occurs at Stork’s fourth expansion at thirty four minutes as both engage in a colossus war and Socke comes out slightly ahead with his mothership advantage while killing the fourth.

Socke then holds the supply lead until he is once again maxed out and moves at Stork’s fourth once again.

He lands a vortex that traps the majority of Stork’s colossus and with the zealots of Socke in the vortex he takes the GG.
