Black Isle Returning From The Grave

Seriously

Brand names are everything in the world of nostalgia, and Black Isle Studios is up there. They ran some of the best PC gaming of the 90s, including Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, and Fallout. And - strangely - they say they are coming back, with their new website and the above statement. The site is run by Interplay CEO Herve Caren, and registered to Interplay.

But the name did not create the games, developers did. Which is why the responses from Obsidian (who make up much of the Torment/Baldur's Gate/Fallout team) are puzzling - Chris Avellone, sporting his Lady of Pain avatar, has disavowed knowledge of it. Obsidian has told Joystiq that it "doesn't involve Obsidian at all." If none of the creators are behind it, then we have very little to go off of other than nostalgia...which doesn't sound too enticing.
