Halloween Events This Weekend

I received word that there should be some spooky events going on this weekend. Here's the scoop: This weekend we are having major events going on in the world of Norrath. Our GM's are going to be hosting rare events and having fun with all our fans. There are going to be rare item drops that seldom arise and fun for the whole family. Here's a sample of what we're doing. Scavenger Hunts Attack of the Pixies! The Brownies will have Revenge! The strange story of the Ship Wrecked gnome The mean Grizzly Bear known as "Fluffy" on a rampage Log in and check them out.

Proper term for this would be Madhouse

Event? It was more a madhouse. I spent a week in EK trying to get a some things with my lvl 26 Druid only to have kills stolen when I got them down to 51-55% down in HP, high levels whining about low levels, low levels whining about high levels and the stupid lazy method of some people of paying mega-plat for looting rights which spurred on the higher levels to knock out everything in sight to get that money.

What was even more rediculous was the "events" in the newbie zones (like QH) where the high levels would show up and blast everything in sight then whine because the drops were so pitiful. It's a newbie zone, what'd you expect?

They really need to have a GM at these event sites to help control the situation and keep the various zones at certain levels with that lvl of player in them. I pretty much lost most of my respect for the higher levels after watching thier behavior for a week.

I finally did manage to get a few things but I earned them by fighting and killing for them the way the event was supposed to be done, not by paying for looting rights and KS other players.

Monnk Items?

Ok,
read all this above.
Well i am from Germany and there`s not much more disapoiting than run home from work, start EQ and read "currently not avaiable, please try later" (the thing with 3am your time). Would be nice if (only!) some downloads could take place on other times than during US Nights.
But on the other hand i wanna say thank you for the so called GM event which gave me and my alt chars items i only could dream of before.
My main is a 45 WAR (who didn`t got sword btw) who nearly hunted all down in the most event-areas.
I think it was a bit unlucky for those guys who spended hours (months) to make a good jeweler and now a INT3 ring is worth the same than a rusty sword for a while.
But it was a big chance for newbies to get a bit higher to the ones who got this game since 2 years and are well equiped (well, they had to fight hard for it for sure).
So, the events where ok for me, i agree in the point that the role-playing was a bit low.

Bad things on event:
1) Northern Ro- event ended mostly after 3 minutes, cause some people killed the priest fastly (he was a lev30 NEC) and everyone (also the "high" levs who wanna kill him again) has to wait another 3 hours. Why not keep the event for 20 minutes longer AFTER priest died, cause priest was only killed by some to get the noobs angry?

2) Cause of the immense interest on event (i counted til 220 people in East Karana; over 200 in Rath Mounts) there was a looting and aggression between players which was not nice. During the weekend, I learned the word "ninja looting" which sounds nice but if ya saw it you would think otherwise :)

Enough written for now, lets go back to "normal" EQ again.

Cheers,
Bunguk (Povar)

I have been involved in two gm events.

The first involved a couple dark elves running around the East Commons killing everyone. They never said a word. Despite attempts to converse with them.

The second involved running an errand and solving a riddle. When we tried to talk with the gm controlled char he would just repeat a different variation of the same couple lines. Almost as if they had been written down for him.

All in all these events, while giving up some nice items, where not in the least fun to participate in. The gm controlled char's made no effort to roleplay. Now since Verant is always saying that EQ is a roleplaying game and all servers are considered roleplaying servers, it would be nice to see their gm's make an attempt at promoting roleplaying.

Our guild did come up with a kind of solution. We now hold our own events. We have members in their 30's to 50's who donate items to be used as rewards. Then we set up our own *roleplaying* events. ***** the gms! Check your bank for extra items, write down some roleplaying ideas, and hold your own event.

Cheers,

Events... Not if I can help it

After participating in an Event repelling Ice Goblins in Misty Thicket a month or two ago, only to discover that all of my factions in the Rivervale area had been set to Indifferent (mostly from Ally) after the event, I will work Very hard from now on to avoid any such event, run by poorly trained and obviously immature GM's.

Thanks for spoiling my gaming experience. BTW I was in both OOT and North Karana during "Events" yesterday- I invised up and left for parts unknown.
Events...bah, not for all!

well I spent a total of 28 hours online this weekend to try & find/participate in my 1st GM event. This was across 2 different servers & all I saw was..." plz congratulate (someone from 1st fist of light)...who has just got (some cloak)". Then I went to WC & watched the RED sky for 10 games days with Nothing happening.

I guess my question is.."Do I HAVE to live in the USA to get involved with events?"...cause not only are we australians NOT considered when it comes to patches (they always Patch during our PEAK times...yes 3am your time), but it seems as though the Events miss us as well.
sorry VI...I was Very dissappointed with this weekends efforts & wonder if I will ever see an event let alone participate.

Hey.

I play from the UK and I appreciate some of your pain at this. Patches are during the day for me, but on several occaisions, I have sat myself down thinking to drive the real world away for a few hours, only to discover the servers are down for patching. There is of course a UK server now, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with that. Probably be patched at the same time though. However, if it works out, maybe you can look forward to getting an Austrailian server.

I have thought about the events thing previously and have generally been frustrated by it. However, I was pleased to hear of events happening during the daytime yesterday. (Sun 01/11/01) Admittedly, I didn't get involved in any of these, because I was dragging my sorry carcass through L40, but I was very suprised there was anything going on that was suited to European time. (About 2:00PM GMT (GMT is the only real time, you realise!?!)) I don't know what kinda events were running, but it sounds like VI are trying pretty hard to change this.

Personally, my major gripe is that most GM events seem to involve letting something huge loose, and letting it kill everyone in sight, until a high level group kill it and make off with whatever the loot is. (No, I'm not ******** about the group that do the work looting. Read some more...)

The whole reason I didn't leave my EXP grind is that I didn't wanna get my *** handed to me, for a tiny chance at getting something I probably wouldn't even want. I'm sure there has to be some sorta alternative to constant hack 'n slash.

Anyhow, maybe this will give you a little hope that you might one day see an event.

AlAaraaf.

A Sand Giant
# Oct 26 2001 at 6:19 PM Rating: Good
I was in S Ro last night with my wife and we came across "A Sand Giant" running around the desert. This was obviously a GM Controlled creature do to the way he was running about and he also conned indiffernt. He attacked my wife and we engaged in trying to kite him.

He was red to me at 42 and no spells stuck save Tashani and one DOT (which did no damage, but wasnt resisted). My wife was able to land a snare here and there but they did not effect him.

By then several other players had joined and attempted to melee him, dying rather quickly. We hailed him and attempted a conversation which mostly covered Sand Giant Politics. He made an obscure referance to the Combine Empire and how the Sand Giants only attacked other beings to defend the power of the Wizard Portal in S Ro.

He then asked us to gather 4 silk swatches, a scarab carapece and a zombie skin. I guess this was the "scavenger hunt". haha

So this took all of 30 seconds and we handed him over the items, and I recieved a neck item, +6 STR +5 vs fire +5 AC (can't remember the name). He then stated he had to take the items to his tribes shaman to make a potion and that not all of his kind are forgiving as him, ran off, and poofed.

I'm not so much miffed about the item reward, for the effort it isnt that bad, but it would be nice if the GMs would put some effort in to extending the storyline a bit. Two sentences about the Combine Empire and "I'll smash you if I see you again." is pretty lame.
