Trion Kicks Off New 'Guild Spotlight' Series

Trion Worlds just published the inaugural edition of its new "Guild Spotlight" series, and it focuses on the Epic guild on the Kaleida shard. The guild, which has around 2,500 members, donates its CPU resources to accelerate scientific research using the World Community Grid program. Here are some details:

"When we asked Jaden about the inspiration to get himself and his guild involved, he cites a lecture discussing points such as 'how gamers are not being utilized' and have 'great untapped potential.' While some games like the super-addictive 'FoldIt' offer a hands-on approach to solving real-world problems, Jaden thought that rewarding people for playing their MMO of choice would be a better way to invite established and invested gamers to contribute.

The way it works is simple: in a manner reminiscent of the way some guilds award 'DKP,' Jaden gives in-game perks to guild members based on how many hours of CPU time they donate to the project (their current focus is Clean Air). Of course, all guild members still get the in-game fun, camaraderie and 'phat lewtz' that come with clearing raids and closing rifts."

This is certainly an interesting way to reward guild members. What do you think? If you'd like to share your guild's story and possibly be featured in a future Guild Spotlight, send it to Trion at guilds@trionworlds.com.
