MMO Base Interviews Community Director Jason Mical

Today, Scapes over at the official TERA website posted about MMO Base's interview with Jason Mical, the TERA Community Director.

The interview is available both in Croatian and English, and its quite a nifty little interview! Some new information, along with some further explanation on existing topics.

I was happy to see a little more information about both PvE and PvP, along with some information on server types. I am however a little concerned with the wording used in regards to PvE servers, and hope for more clarification on the matter of PvE Servers soon, for those that plan to roll on those servers.

MMO Base: Will TERA offer players PVP arenas or will PVP be mostly done in an open world?

Jason: All servers will have battlegrounds and duels. There will be open-world PvP servers, and PvE servers where PvP is restricted to the battlegrounds and duelling areas.

MMO Base: How will the endgame rewards for PVP and PVE in TERA work? Will there be unique epic sets for all classes?

Jason: The endgame rewards will include a lot of loot of course, but both PvP and PvE players will find themselves embroiled in the politics of the Valkyon Federation at higher levels. There will be political rewards for the ambitious and well-connected, including an unprecedented way to shape the history of the server.

Jumping.

That statement does sound a little worrying, but I think your second conclusion is the correct one. In all the MMOs that I have played, jumping was a purely aesthetic feature. I doubt the developers see a need to change that in TERA. However, with the evasion system in this game - I see no way to remove jumping from being a commonly used tactic in both PvE and PvP.

Even if they do something like extending the hitbox all the way to the ground when you jump (so you can't jump over traps), the way I expect to see jumping being used the most in PvP is simply just as a confusion tactic (can't hit an enemy with a missile spell if they don't stop moving and jumping).

MMO Base: How does the enemy tag/mark system look like in TERA? There are discussions mentioning it is very hard to target an enemy in PVP who is jumping around.

Jason: We’re still balancing this as we continue our testing process. Jumping won’t be a problem in the final game.

I'm worried about this. Being hard to hit someone attempting to be evasive is a problem? Or do they simply want jumping to be a non factor?
