Cryptic Rescinds 90-Day Free Trial For STO

With fans up in arms over Atari's incredible Star Trek Online sale, Cryptic has pulled the 90-day free trial from the package

Just recently we talked about how Cryptic was offering an incredible package deal for their latest MMORPG, Star Trek Online, with the game and a bonus 90-day free trial for $39.99. Unfortunately, while the deal was a great bargain, it had many veteran STO players up in arms, as they had paid $49.99 and had only received a 30-day free trial, despite the fact that most participated in the closed beta and supported STO from the very beginning. Well, Cryptic has now responded to what one amusing forum poster has referred to as "salegate," and they've decided to err on the business end of things. Now Atari's sale page reads that Star Trek Online will still be -$10 off its original price, but Cryptic has chopped off its 90-day free trial that came with the package as well. All purchases of Star Trek Online should now only have the regular 30 day free trial.

While some would argue that Cryptic could have easily just given everyone an extra month of STO rather than stealthily chopping off that extra 60-day bonus on the sale, at least Cryptic has committed to honoring the bonus time for players who had already purchased Star Trek Online prior to Cryptic pulling the deal. Now let's just hope everyone can move on and Cryptic can get back to making a great game!
