Aion Fansite Gets Hacked, Phishing Warning Issued

According to the official Aion website, a few days ago one of their most popular fansites was hacked during the week and, as a result of this, the hackers gained access to the website's e-mail database. Now, any fan of the various Aion database and forum websites (you can check out our Aion portal here!) may already know which site was hit, but the Aion team is warning players that these emails may result in more "phishing" attempts by hackers to get players to compromise their accounts. This is typically achieved by sending "fake" emails, pretending to be NCsoft staff or an in-game GM, where the player is required to visit a link, or even prompted to "change" his or her password.

Once more, the Aion team is warning players against these increased "phishing" attempts, and NCsoft says that any emails you receive you should cross reference to the main Aion webpage and follow those instructions instead.

Stay vigilant against the scourge of the hackers, Aion community!

AionSource sent out an email to all accounts on 1/29/2010 admitting that they were the ones that got hacked and warning all players to be especially wary of phishing attempts as a result.

Of course you should never do it in the first place, but IF your username and password is the same on both AionSource and AionOnline (Master account or Game account) then you need to change your NCSoft passwords immediately! The same advice is true if the username and password you used on AionSource are the same as ANY of your other 'Net resources, such as your email account!
