Diablo III Launch Not Planned Until at Least 2011

According to Kotaku, Activision Blizzard Chief Financial Officer Thomas Tippl confirmed during a presentation in New York today that Diablo III is not scheduled to be released until at least 2011. Cataclysm, StarCraft II and the updated Battle.net should be set to launch in 2010.

Diablo III, the StarCraft II expansions and Blizzard's unannounced MMO were all filed under the "next few years" category on a slide outlining the company's lineup. It should come as no surprise that World of Warcraft is at the top of Blizzard's list for the foreseeable future.

With the launch of Diablo III not scheduled to happen anytime soon, it looks like you'll have plenty of time to check out Torchlight or play through Diablo II again. And again.

Upswing of spam following Bnet merge ?

Has anyone else see a huge upswing in spam following the 'required' conversion of WoW accounts to Battle.net ? My hotmail account has been receiving on average 10-15 pieces a day for over 2 years. Since I converted to battle net I am getting on average 50 pieces of spam per day. The only change that I am aware of is the name change and association of my WoW account to my hotmail account.

all you guys saying "but its been in development so long" i dont think it has...i think you will find they have only started developing it when we first started hearing about it maybe about 3-4 months earlier...they were probably focusing their time and money into world of warcraft for a while save them a bit of work now that they are working on World of Warcraft, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Cataclysm AND the unnamed MMO you expect them to get Diablo 3 out in 6 months? wow don't make it easy for them or anything

I don't think it works that way... just one team that takes care of EVERYTHING. WoW is so massive, it probably has its own dedicated team that works on nothing but that one game. Starcraft probably hasits own team as well.
Hmmm, wonder who said that before?

Back when everyone was claiming we'd see Diablo 3 next year, who was saying this....

"OK, 2009 or early 2010 belongs to Starcraft. Then there's the next WoW expansion which will probably be near Christmas. This means that the EARLIEST you'll see Diablo 3 will be in 2011."

Oh wait, that was ME saying that, and everyone told me I was wrong.

Folks, I keep trying to explain it... as someone that's been around since the first installments of Warcraft and Diablo, there's one other thing I've seen that Bliz does well besides making pretty games... they're GREAT at taking forever to do so. Diablo 2 was at least three years late. It was so late that many promised features were removed, and the fifth act that should have been included was scrapped and turned into an expansion pack that we paid another $50 for.

I'm not surprised that D3 isn't coming out until 2011. As a matter of fact, what will surprise me is IF Diablo 3 makes it out in 2011.
Honestly...

Just wait to announce it then. I really do appreciate the whole "wait to release until ready" thing. I really do. But 3 years of hype is just a pain in the ***. Wait to announce the damn game until you expect a year or less more development time.

I agree. By that time, graphics for games should be better than what they are now and may need to update them for D3. And it's been in development for way too long IMO. It was less than 2 years time between Warcraft 3 and WoW's release dates(July 3, 2002 and Nov. 22, 2004 respectively). But Diablo 2 was released back in June 29, 2000...according to D3's new release year of 2011, that puts it at 11 years since D2 was released that we'll see D3. I know Warcraft is Blizz's cash baby, but come on! There's more than just Warcraft! As a side note though, the only thing I can see as an interesting idea is that with a release date of 2011, after checking the release date of the original Diablo game, it would be released in time for celebrating Diablo's 15th anniversary.

Omg I can't believe this. Lots of games, even fairly complex ones are completed in six months. Isn't it possible that the graphics in the game will need updating to be cutting edge since it's over a year from release? I know the gameplay is the key thing but, I mean, wow.

How many years has this been in development now?
