Grab Bag 8

Time for more grab bag fun!  This time is a random assortment of questions and answers, so be sure to check out the full story after the jump.

Q. I’ve noticed that sometimes root effects don’t seem to be breaking when the rooted target is damaged, and sometimes the root does indeed break, but it's inconsistent. Are roots supposed to break 100% of the time when damage is done to a rooted player, or is it just a chance to break when damaged?

A. Root effects have a 50% chance to break each time that the victim is damaged, so what you’re experiencing is perfectly normal!

It's time yet again for another issue of the Grab Bag. The answer to your questions are revealed, you have but to click the "Read More" button!

Q. Have the 3 Greenskin Tome Tactics (Outmaneuver the Dim, Outmaneuver the Cunning and Outmaneuver the Clever) been removed the game? I can no longer use them on my White Lion, and I cannot see them at the Tome Tactic Librarian in Altdorf.

A. No, these have not been removed, so they should be in and functional. It’s possible that you already trained them and haven’t re-slotted them since the ‘respec’ from 1.1. If so, they are still listed in their ability tabs and you just need to be put the one you want back in the Tome Tactic slot.  One way for you to check this is to look at your ability window in the Tactic tab and sort by Tome.  Another way would be to look at the rewards section of the Tome and check the Tactics tab.

Q. How do I access screenshots that I have taken in game?

A. Screenshots that are grabbed by hitting the Print Screen key while in the game end up in the screenshots folder where Warhammer is installed. The files are saved in the JPEG format, are named based on your character name and are sequentially numbered.

Q. Are Tome unlocks level-based? For example, in the Bestiary there is an unlock in Mount Bloodhorn. It doesn’t guide you anywhere, and when I tried to go back to do it I got turned into a chicken because of the level difference.

A. No, Tome unlocks are not level-based. If you’re a chicken, you’re still eligible for most unlocks, and you might find even more special unlocks that require you to be changed into one of our fowl friends.

Q. I was messing with the user setting and mods and mine wasn’t working, so I randomly clicked on some mods and now I can’t see my action bars or even see NPC chat.  Is there some way I can reset the mods?

A. If you have installed your own mods, you will need to remove them all and then add them back in one at a time to see what’s causing the problems. Mods have the potential to conflict with our base UI and each other. For example: if you are running two quest mods, they might be stomping.

If you do not have mods installed, or t his does not resolve your issues you can cause your game client to re-set the UI saved settings by deleting the save files.

The Warhammer client saves all of it’s user-based settings in the ‘user’ folder inside of your Warhammer install path. Inside of this folder, settings are saved in two ways:

- The UserSettings.xml file is a single file that stores your system settings including game resolution, key bindings, graphic and more settings.
 - The ‘Interface’ sub folder contails many directories and small files that individual store the settings for different pieces of the UI.

If the Warhammer client does not find these files on your PC, it will re-create them and set the client back to the defaults when you first installed WAR.

So, if you can’t figure out what you’ve done wrong with the UI, try the following

1)    First remove all of your custom mods.
2)    Delete your /user/interface’ folder to reset in-game UI settings.
3)    Delete y our /user/UserSettings.xml’ file to reset your system settings
4)    If none of the above work, contact Technical support for more assistance.

Q. I had a question about the Black Orc ability WAAAAAAAGH! in the Boss Mastery line.  The ability does corporeal damage and not physical damage, so I was wondering if the ability’s damage is still affected by strength, or if it depends on the persons intelligence?

A. This attack is indeed a melee attack, which means that it is based on Strength and can be parried by enemies.  An attack's type is independent of the damage that it does - in other words, a melee attack will always be based on Strength, and can always be Blocked or Parried, but when it hits, it can do any type of damage (physical, Corporeal, Elemental, or Spirit).  Along the same lines, ranged attacks are always based on Ballistic Skill and can be Blocked or Dodged, and magical attacks are always based on Intelligence and can be Blocked or Disrupted, regardless of the type of damage that they deal.  The damage type simply determines whether the damage is reduced by Armor or Resistances.

Q. How do Armor Penetration and Armor Ignore work?

A. Armor Penetration and Armor Ignore work in the exact same manner - they reduce the target’s actual armor value before the system determines how much damage is mitigated.  Let's make up some numbers as an example:  Say your enemy has 3000 armor, and you hit them with an ability that says it penetrates 25% of the victim's armor.  For that hit, the system will go through all the combat calculations as if the enemy only had 2250 armor (3000 base, minus 25%).

It works exactly the same in the other direction, too - if that enemy had a buff that let them ignore 10% of an attacker's armor penetration, then they'd effectively count as having 2550 armor against that same attack, since the attacker's 25% is now cut down to 15%.

Q. I have noticed on more than one occasion that if you use a heal-over-time potion and then try to use an instant-heal ability, you receive the error: "You cannot use that item at this time."  Is this intended or is this a bug?

A. That would certainly be a bug - drinking a heal-over-time potion shouldn't block out your abilities in any way.  We'll be sure to look into this!  Also, as always, please be sure to file a bug report that specifies which potion and which ability you were using. Your bug reports are a very effective tool for us when trying to squash issues like these.

Q. What is the meaning of the different colors of text when you parry or block?

A. A defense message in white means that it was the enemy's autoattack, while a defense message in green means that the enemy used an ability.

Q. I have noticed that while I’m trying to operate a ram, I’m unable to ask for assistance or really see what’s going on. Is it possible to chat while using a siege weapon?

A. It isn’t currently possible, but thanks to your feedback, we are looking into adding this functionality in a future patch.
