CES 2009: Interview with Fatal1ty

We caught up with Fatal1ty at CES to talk about something you wouldn't suspect, World of Warcraft.

If you've ever played a FPS (First Person Shooter), chances are you've heard the name Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel at least a few times. Widely regarded as the most successful professional gamer around, he's won twelve World Championships over five different games. We caught up with him at CES to talk about something you wouldn't suspect, World of Warcraft.

During the interview he made it clear that he's going to keep his WoW life casual, but pursue it in a business perspective by actively seeking out and possibly sponsoring World of Warcraft professionals. In my mind this is great news for would be professionals that just need a little help breaking into the space.

I think I'm going to keep it more casual but I think I'm going to go about it the professional way by finding the best players and sponsor them to travel around underneath the Fatal1ty brand and support our product line with Creative. I'm really looking forward to sponsoring some guys.

Check out our exclusive interview with Fatal1ty after the jump.

Fata1ty.... Its mind boggling how anyone can hate him, without knowing him. Arrogant? I wouldn't go that far... Proud? Yes. With every right. Don't hate him, cause you aint him. <3

Jealous? Hardly.

It's not the fact that he might be good at any given game. It's not that people are jealous. It's the fact that he's an arrogant jerk about the whole thing.

Add to that the fact that any product with his name on it will, unless he isn't getting paid, by necessity cost more than a similar unbranded product, and I'm just not going to buy into it. Let's see him play some of those crazy Koreans in a match of Starcraft. Are they getting endorsement deals?
you suck

well considering this guy can own people in Quake with a Guitar Hero controller, I'd love to see him come up with a WoW PVP team and own the 13 year old sallies who are whining about him.

he is better than you, AND he gets paid for it.

deal with it.

:)
Hated because of him not his profession

Many people look down on fatal1ty because hes an arrogant twit and will put his namesake on any piece of trash they will pay him for and his partnership with the notoriously shady creative, not because hes a professional gamer.

He basically took alot of peoples dream job (Mine included) and used it to take a big crap all over the professional gaming industry for his own profit, making them all look bad in the precess. But then again thats generally what happens when uneducated nobodys have cash hurled at them.

Fatal1ty is not good for the industry and there is a damn good reason for his horrible reputation among many gamers.
give it a break

The guy's makeing money off of something he's good at...quit beeing jealous bastards, like omac said, if the opportunity came up youd do the same thing, and in no way did he come off as a pompous ******* in that interview. He seems pretty down to earth for all the attention he's gotten. Let's not forget how almost any gaming magazine interview is full of cocky and sarcastic comments, its funny, entertaining, and it keeps people reading the article, dont turn it into something it isnt just because your jealous of the guy.

and their ARE "pro" arena teams so yeah...think before you speak...
good grief

HAHAHAHA, this guy is a dumb ***, Professional wow player? are you serious? anyone can play wow and be a pro, so there goes his idea of getting "real pros", also anyone who buys anything with his name on over priced crap hardware is a moron.
Fatal1ty = good for the industry

So he's a loser and a twit and a tool why exactly? Because he found a way to make money playing games? Are you honestly saying that if someone dropped a ton of money in your lap to play whatever game you wanted (as long as you were good at it) you would turn it down? Endorsing headphones or soundcards is no different than endorsing shoes or sports gear.

What support has WoW gotten and from what companies? Any company that is affiliated with WoW has probably paid a license fee for the 'privilege' of supporting WoW.
is he for real?

if this idiot makes a wow pro team, it will kill the support that its gathered from so many companies... this guy is so full of himself, it would be fun to find him online just to kill him.. over and over and over.... anyone else watch this and just want to spawn camp this looser just to get rid of him?
Ugh

Am I the only one here who goes out of their way to NOT buy stuff with this tool's name on it? I think it stems from a magazine interview I read a few years back where he was just an insufferable pompous twit..
