World of Warcraft: More Than an MMORPG

World of Warcraft has become much more than just an MMORPG. There's a board game, an upcoming miniatures game (as previewed by our editor-in-chief), a trading card game, comic books, and so on. There's an upcoming orchestral album coming out and ringtones/wallpapers available for your cell phone (only in the United States, however). And the passing of a young WoW player, Ezra Chatterton, has touched the whole community.

Keep reading after the jump for updates on some of these numerous WoW items, including Drums of War, the trading card game expansion that hit shelves yesterday.

Sadly, 12-year-old Ezra Chatterton passed away Oct. 20 after a battle with metastic cancer. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he was able to help create the quest Kyle's Gone Missing! and the Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix, as well as spend some time with the Blizzard team. The condolences of Allakhazam community members can be found in this thread.

Blizzard recently honored Ezra on its Web site :

Early last week, we received word that Ezra Chatterton had passed away. For those of you unfamiliar with this courageous young man, Ezra visited Blizzard Entertainment in 2007 through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, armed with the desire to design and implement his own quest in World of Warcraft. To this day, we remain inspired by the creativity, intelligence, and passion he displayed during his visit. We were extremely fortunate to have had a chance to get to know and work with Ezra, and our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends.
Strength and honor, Ezra.

The Drums of War trading card expansion was released yesterday and brings with it new content, including new locations and card types. Characters in the online game can also acquire three new loot items from Drums of War, including a Black Warbear mount. For more information, check out the official Upper Deck Web site.

Drums of War introduces a brand-new card type that brings it even closer to the online game with Location cards!  Starting with Drums of War and continuing for the next two expansions, each World of Warcraft race will get its own Location, inspired by that race’s online city. Heroes can use the card of their homeland for extra power.  This new card type debuts with Locations for Humans, Trolls, Tauren and Night Elves.

Eminence Symphony Orchestra have joined forces with Blizzard Entertainment to release "Echoes of War: The Music of Blizzard Entertainment", a 2-disc album and DVD package featuring a stirring collection of orchestral themes from across the Blizzard Entertainment universes. More information can be found here. The legendary edition will be released Nov. 1 and the standard edition will be released Nov. 22.

The Echoes of War package will feature 15 unique arrangements from Blizzard Entertainment’s catalogue, with several pieces coming from yet-to-be-released titles including World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, StarCraft II, and the recently announced Diablo III. 70 minutes of music will be featured in all, with bonus tracks arranged by special guests including the critically-acclaimed composer Kow Otani (Shadow of the Colossus).

As for comic books, World of Warcraft #12 and Warcraft: Ashbringer #2 (of a four-issue miniseries) are now available. Blizzard has offered shots of pages from each issue. The World of Warcraft pages can be found here, and the Ashbringer pages can be found here.
