lol people complaining about the computer.

What do you expect its a pumpkin carving contest.

thats one... i dont care.... Enter, win/lose..... take the PC, sell it, use it, gut it, upgrade it, give it to your kid, donate it.... Who cares... you win it for entering a Pumpkin Carving contest.... do you think you will get something high end...

What a bunch of ingrates! You people should be ashamed of yourselves! Picking apart the prize??? Why?! It's a simple enough concept, the contest isn't asking you to give them money or anything, just a carved pumpkin. The prize is better than you ingrates would make it out to be, I'll guarantee you that right now. Nobody cares what kind of computer you have currently, by the way. Nobody cares what you spent on it, or if you made it yourself or not, you're wasting text and time by even typing it. How's this sound: You get a cool FFXI-themed computer if you win! What's in it? WHO CARES! IT'S F*(#'ING FFXI THEMED! They could have made the prize something like $20, or maybe, not even held the contest at all! Then you'd get... NOTHING! WOOT!

Shut up and stop looking a gift horse in the mouth, you make me sick.

Seeing as this is posted on the WoW forums and there is nothing in that post (or the main above) stating this contest is for FFXI 'themed' pumpkins only (and it took a search to find the original contest post to find that rule) can this contest be extended to the WoW players as well?

What I mean to say is that Vista needs 1 gig just to operate right. Secand thing you should know is that the game it self is suggested to run on 1 gig. When I got my computer I only had 2 gig of ram. I later found out when I started to play that I needed more ram. if they where going to make a real Gaming computer then it needs 4 gigs of ram at minimum, not 2. there's just not enough power on the ram side of the MoBo. As for the CPU, it's not all the power it needs. As for me, my computer cost somewhere around 3k and I've added more ram just for those days where I get Nailed with updates.

thats mess up how the hell is this contest have anything to do with Wow for sum reason its on the alla wow page if its for ffx1 hows it have anything to do with Wow???

Heh, that comp's a bit old, isn't it?

That's the same mobo that's in my comp (the CPU is slightly stronger, but not by that much, and the HDD is twice as big. The GPU card is nice, though.

I built my computer last year.

Still, though, the computer itself is good for FFXI, plenty of power.

You're right, it's hardly a high-end PC these days. The processor came out in February 2007 but the technology that it's based on, the Windsor model, came out in May 2006, so it's quite old. In fact, AMD's successor to the Windsor models, the Brisbane, came out in December 2006 so even that's getting on a bit. The current 64X2 6000+ that's sold in shops right now is the Brisbane and is clocked at 3100 Mhz as standard, making it easy to tell the difference between the current and the older, inferior model.

The motherboard is so old that I can't find it for sale in my usual tech shops.

The top-end of the HD4800 range is the HD4870x2, which basically has two 4870s glued together. This card is inferior to the single HD4870, which I've got in my PC. It's still a good card but decidedly mid-range.

Integrated sound card. Well, integrated sound cards are good these days but a decent card is probably less than $100.

Overall, this is a definitely not a high-end PC. I don't know whether Square Enix got conned into thinking it was high end but I suspect they found something they had on a shelf, gathering dust, and stuck in a new (mid-range) graphics card and tried to dupe FFXI players into thinking it was high-end.

On the other hand, you could probably take out the components and ebay them for a a few months subs.

At least it wasn't a VIA northbridge, they had enough sense to use nForce.

This motherboard with an nForce chipset would beat anything VIA put out last week, easily.

As I said the computer itself is plenty powerful for FFXI, maybe not the maxed out DrawDistance type playing, but still, this computer can put out some respectable FFXI play.

I do find it odd, though, that the Graphics card is the newest part of the computer, even though FFXI barely even utilizes the graphics card.... how odd.

Before I got a 4850 setting FFXI to 1920x1080/3840x2160 was a slideshow. Now I can set it to that and it runs at 30fps.
