New Notorious Monsters

From Playonline.com

New Notorious Monsters (NMs) will be added to areas introduced in the Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack in the forthcoming version update, with simplified access to their battlefields.

A Word from the Development Team

NM battles have been one of the most popular elements of FFXI since its launch. Nothing stirs the adventurer's soul quite the same way as cooperating with dependable comrades to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds, with rare equipment drops being the very tasty icing on the cake.

Thus far, however, getting the chance to battle NMs has been almost as difficult a task as fighting the creatures themselves. One often needed a lot of time and plenty more luck to successfully arrange an encounter with the creatures. In light of the ever-increasing number of fan requests for more opportunities to do battle against powerful monsters and reap the rewards, the development team has decided to implement some changes to make the excitement of NMs—even those of the same caliber as particularly infamous varieties inhabiting Tu'Lia and Al'Taieu—more accessible to all.

Overview of the New System

Carrying out requests from a certain NPC will earn you points which, when accumulated, can be exchanged for NM trigger items. The cost of these triggers will fluctuate based on the corresponding NM's difficulty level and popularity among adventurers. A limit will also be imposed on the number of points that can be earned in one Vana'dielian day (one Earth hour). Even with the above conditions in place, obtaining triggers under this new system should be relatively pain-free, especially when compared to fulfilling the elaborate requirements of some existing NM battles.
*Please note that this point system is applicable only to select new NMs scheduled to appear from the June version update.

In order to maximize flexibility in participant numbers, in most cases the target to which you trade triggers in order to gain entry into battlefields will be located in field areas.

Rewards

Over fifty new types of equipment will be made available as exclusive drops for defeating these new NMs. Here are just a few samples to whet your ravenous adventurer's appetite:

I like the idea of this new system. I don't mind the old system but yea i've spent lots of time collecting rare and rare/ex gear. this is a good addition for those that dont' really have the time to put into caampin 21-24 hours spawns oe even 3-5day spawns. I know it's rough to find time for the old system. I have a job, wife, and 5 kids.
Wow, people are really against this?

Personally, I believe that anyone who is against this new system may be concerned that their hard-earned 'elitist gear' is now more accessible to people who do not have the time to put into camping nms for weeks at a time. I get that, but to be honest we pay the same money you do. Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of spending more time on the game than at other activities. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have opportunities to get new toys.

I know one guy who camped mee deggi for a week straight, no drop, and he ended up getting so mad he stopped playing the game. Now, everyone on that server lost a potential party member over something stupid, and all because he just wanted to be reasonably equipped to level samurai. Situations like that need to be corrected, and nobody should be arguing FOR making this game already more difficult than it is. And let's remember that the difficulty level isn't directly related to the overall challenge of solving the game's mysteries, it's directly related to one's ability to "gather together" enough people on the right classes to successfully win against "insane creature #79".

Camping NMs is one of the things that is majorly wrong with this game. They are often too hard to solo, so you are looking not at a situation where you are spending just YOUR time on it, but also OTHER peoples' time on it, who may or may not directly benefit from the drop, in which case it's harder to enlist their aid. And then enter ElitistLinkshell#1 who brings half their people to camp something like adamantoise, and then charges someone who wanted the egg for the monk quest upwards of a million gil for a rare/ex item that noone in their linkshell even needed because its just for this one quest....

Come on how can anyone be against making things like that more accessible?

I like what there suggesting since there are a vast amount of
ppl who like I, absolutely hate camping NMs but would like
the drops (if not for time and drop rate issues).

But as said all depends on how difficult it is to complete
the requirements for fighting the new NMs. Im hoping the
items are more rare/ex, so its geared more for ppl who
need them to use rather to sell.
hmm.. yes/no/maybe so?

Maybe this was the "way" that they're adding Blu, Pup and Cor Relic armor. Ya know, kill nm mob and it has a chance to drop x ra/ex crafting material.. get x,y, z crafting mats from other NM's and trade it to an NPC to make the relic armor piece you want or something... with a Imperial coin price attached of course.. (can't make it where we get the af for free since other jobs have to pay dyna fees to get there's)

It would kinda sorta make sense if they did it that way since they added Einherjar so that people could get some of the hard to get abj's in the game and the way you had to have 3 of your pieces of ToA AF crafted anyway wouldn't be too far fetched to believe.

It could take you only a few nms to get the af piece if you're lucky on your mat drops or it could take you months/years.. lol just like how in Dyna my friend has been waiting for 2 years for Pld body.

questions/comments on this idea?

Ok so four years this past may and im just now learning about the Kings. I had to put up with linkshells breaking spliting and rebuilding and what ever to get this far and have wanted to quit several times because the game was just too team based and no one wanted to be a team player.

Thats the peoples problem though. Not the games. I feel like the older players on the server did have it rough, and the New players have it very very easy, especially when it comes to exp. Rings, armor, too weak mobs for huge exp, guides and transportation changes have lowered the difficulty in the game enough imo.

Not looking forward to making the last challenging thing about this game more readily available so that it becomes too easy with practice.

If the NM's can be called up whenever you get the people together to fight it, then you had better add some NM's that cant be called up for those that allready have the people together.

Groups that can fight the big stuff efficiently take years to put together.
when is the update supposed to happen?

well speaking of new gear, i hope they dont recycle the old gear models like they do. ie ying-yang or reverend....ew.

as for fixing camping issue related to traditional NMs i think this is somewhat going to be similar to WoW's sytem fo where you raid dungeons, get tokens and exchange them for the gear. its sort of a reverse of that.

what im concerned with , is that a player might go through the trouble of doing all these requests, and the NM doesnt even drop what you want...it would be pointless to put a low % on drop rate for a forced spawn mob that you had to quest to earn the right to spawn.

currently even force spawn NMs, with the exception of "god class" NMs you probably have an even lower chance of getting a drop from those than the ones you have to wait and fight for.

yeah because we don't already do that. hello, farming?

I don't understand why people are ******** about it when the update hasn't even happened yet. We don't even know how hard these "requests" will be.

I always wished they put a LVL85-90 type HNM mob in places like South Gustaberg on a 5-7day cycle or suming. Maybe it could spawn on Vomp Hill. I just always thought it would be cool, and a fun talking point for new ppl to the game etc. Its not as if you get pissed of KOing whilst lvling a job 1 to ~12.

I really like this new concept to be honest. I don't really even like camping the 2 hr mobs. For some people who aren't in Middle school and High school, camping NMs is damn near impossible. It makes the game less enjoyable. I know MANY people who quit because of the fact that A) Gil is a bit hard to come by and B) NM camping is a joke. Even if it is for the new areas...Thank you ^^

Are you serious? I'm in high school and i play less than anyone who works. When you work you are free once you get home, with parents it's different. I think the new update is "meh" i'm mean sure this will "help" but, it'll take away some uniqueness of people who have "elite" gear. I'm still wait for some more job adjustments and SCH merits.

Sorry to repeat your question but are YOU serious? There are people playing this game who have children...and you know what? They are working and when they get home they got to take care about appartment/house and when them kids come home from high school they can't play either, you know with children it's diffrent Smiley: lol

Being so young, I understand how the "Big Picture" is not noticed by you. If its not obvious, Square-Enix created this game to make money. they don't give a Marid's burning **** about what the "individual" thinks. if there is an issue/request made by a MAJORITY (like 1/2 the servers, hence, they lowered the challenge on Einherjar. also why the ended up nerfing Drg and Rng a few years ago, and all the people botting.) then SE will address it. If SE can stay in the MMORPG business, they'll do anything they can. If it was easier for you to get something and show it off, would you? would it make you feel better to say "Look at this new ??? i just got!" if so, why do you buy from the AH? and dont tell me you dont, cuz if you have such an extremely limited time to play, you sure as hell aren't camping NMs unless you bought your account. then all this is just entertaining.

So, for those of us who have played since NA launch, this will be a welcome new addition in many ways to keep the enjoyment/challenge going on longer. after all, if you dont like it, why pay for it?

well, its the base ingredient to crimson armor. its called "Dragon Mail" and only a Drg can wear it. this opens up an interesting plethora of questions? the only sword a Drg can equip is a "Rapier" class sword. THIS sword however looks more like a "Longsword" class weapon. are swords going to be multi class now? is the Dragon mail going to be wearable by other jobs? is there a new armor that LOOKS like the Drg mail?

Sigh, i'v been playing for along time and playing since release means NOTHING. Although age is a factor, don't act all high and mighty just because your older that's extremely childish. I do not have any elitist gear per say, but i would rather earn it the hard way, and your right that's my opinion. Honestly i'm surprised that SE didn't put this in earlier. I'm just against this game turning into WoW (no offense to any wow players, I played it myself for a few months). Blizzard "Seems" to have the player's wishes obeyed (almost). That is why I left, the game is not hard enough for my taste. Anyways i'm sure a lot of people are happy from this announcement, however please don't start and argument with my and start insulting me because of my age just because you don't agree. Grow up pls.
Thank you SE!

No need to get sensative. If you are still in grade school what is so "insulting" about it? Who said anything bout acting high and mighty? Between work, College, AND a Wife I don't have time to sit on my *** and wait for a 24 hour pop. I think most Grade schoolers have that advantage.

I love how that kid wrote "When you work you are free once you get home, with parents it's different" Lol...Awww man, you mean like school when you get off you have free time? I don't know about your views on not living with parents but when we come home from working, we HAVE to clean the house to prevent it from looking like trailor trash hell...you HAVE to clean your house to avoid an *** beating. Doing dishes and vacuming won't take long. Nobody is better than anybody, some people just have more time and less responsibility. Most Grade schoolers have, school, simple chores.

Back to the main point. I hope they DON'T add this on the old mobs just because the elitests need a hobby, and it will keep them the hell away from my pop items lol.

Sounds good to me. Hopefully these items will replace the old, OR this system will be used to pop older NM sometime in the future.

Waiting 24 hours in one spot just for the CHANCE to fight a monster that MIGHT drop an item is FAIL.

This is a long needed implementation, I am one who HATES to try and camp a 21+ hour spawn NM to have a slim chance to claim it and an even slimmer chance of it dropping the desired item.

I've been playing this game on and off for about 5-6 years and like many others I gave up on NMs and the like years ago. However this new system shows a lot of promise to me. Hopefully the new gear will trump older gear or like another poster said, make old gear easier to obtain. Also, I think these new kings may have something to do with the new Relic weapons, or would that be too easy?

Maybe they're going to see how players react to it before putting it on every NM in the game. I personally think it's a great idea - gives more people the chance to fight an NM without having to out-voke a cheating botter, or wander around a huge area seeing if that NM has popped for the only time that day.

Wont happen, the most expensive things in the game are NM drops, we have an in game economy they are always 'worried' about. The old NMs will still be there to camp, but this is to (we have not seen if this is easier or a long drawn out I killed mob no drop ordeal) have a new system for us so we have less to ***** about , but it does not affect the economy and so on.

Many of the standard NMs are dropping Rare/Ex items these days anyway. I'm pretty sure if Square-Enix starts allowing people to spawn NMs, even at some sort of cost, their items will also shift to Rare/Ex to prevent from flooding the market.

At least I'd hope they were that smart. Otherwise we'd have the same situation as we have now with other NMs, except the spawn will be guaranteed for the people who ***** the drops for gil.

Yes these items are sometimes ( drool approved ) because of stats. But seriously.. so much time is wasted camping these type of mobs. As IF your able to claim the mob over other campers... and IF your able to defeat the mob.. MAYBE you will get the item you are seeking. MAYBE !! come on.. I stopped camping any NM, HNM or w/e a long time ago.. and concetrated on Synthesis and crafting. IN the time it take me to farm items I need or sell some items I crafted.. I can BUY the item I want! The only positive side I see to this is that you will actually get claim on a mob.. but it is still to be seen if the drop rates on the item it MAY drop will increase.
