Destin Bales on Patching
Big thanks to Camelot Vault for the heads up on this post by Destin Bales on Patching in the Tech Tavern:
No refuge for the poor 56k modem users. Alas, many all-night download fests will continue. I remember those very well... Hopefully sometime soon it will become the norm that patches come in smaller bites... but sometimes the updates are just that big. Dial-up users get left out in the cold, still. -Kenti
There is no alternative method for patching DAoC - in order to receive the patches you must download them via the game's interface. If you have the Shrouded Isles expansion pack you can install it on its own, (you will be prompted to enter the Dark Age of Camelot CDKEY during installation) and avoid a lot of patching that way.------------------------------ Shrouded Isles Installation Info from www.support.darkageofcamelot.com ------------------------------ For new subscribers to Dark Age of Camelot and Shrouded Isles please follow the below instructions to properly activate both Dark Age of Camelot and Shrouded Isles to begin playing. If you have not installed either Dark Age of Camelot or Shrouded Isles as of yet, all you will need to do is install from the Shrouded Isles CD. During installation from the Shrouded Isles CD, it will ask you for a valid Dark Age of Camelot CD-key. After you have entered the Dark Age of Camelot CD-key and installation continues it will then ask you for a valid Shrouded Isles CD-key. Once you have installed Shrouded Isles, you may use the Shrouded Isles executable file to update all the required game patches. Please note, If you already have Dark Age of Camelot installed, Shrouded Isles will be installed into it’s own separate directory from Dark Age of Camelot. Please do not delete the Dark Age of Camelot folder as you may want to use the Dark Age of Camelot executable at a later date. If you do not have sufficient disk space for Both Dark Age of Camelot and Shrouded Isles, you may remove the Dark Age of Camelot folder to save disk space. - Destin Technical Lead Mythic Entertainment
