A Bazaar Bug

From the patcher: *** Bug With Bazaar Pricing ***

Here's some important news regarding the Bazaar. Currently there is an issue when setting prices for stacked items in bazaar.  Do not sell a stack of items worth more than 4,294,967 pp (platinum pieces) total.

Example: If you are selling a bottle of water for 1 plat each and have in a stack of 20 of them, the total would be 20 plat this pricing would not be bugged.

However, if you are selling a bottle of water for 214,750 plat each and have them in a stack of 20, the total value would be 4,295,000 pp but you would lose lots of platinum due to the bug.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this issue fixed as soon as possible.  Please note that due to the complexity of the issue, a resolution may not be pushed live until the beginning of the year due to the holiday break. However, the status for a fix is currently pending. Thank you.

What item in EQ would possibly be worth 214k plat, and still be stackable?

Porous Loam for 200k+? Unlikely. I don't think anyone would pay over 4 million plat for a stack of anything. There's just not any stackable item worth that much.

The intriguing aspect is how they discovered this bizarre bazaar pricing bug.

Porous Loam goes for 250 - 300k everyday, on multiple servers.. and people are capable of saving up enough, if they dont just barter them all.. or save to make armor with them, then change their mind.. And desperate / overly rich tradeskillers would definitley pay that much, heh..

It has bitten someone on Maelin. This trader had several porous loam at 300k each. Someone bought 17 of them for a total of 5.1 million but because of the bug, the first 4.29 million was rounded off and the trader only got the remaining 805kpp.

This bug occurs because EQ can only handle numbers in unsigned* 32 bit value of 4294967296 copper (EQ always handle value in copper even though silver, gold, and plats are used) and when there's transaction involving the amount more than the 32 bit value can handle, the number is rolled over to 0 and the first 4.29 million plat gets lost.

Since the bug was first posted on EQ Live forum a few days ago, large stack of high priced good have become very scare.

*signed 32 bit would be max 2147483648 copper and min of -2147483647 copper (that's negative amount). This is why if you edit bazaar ini file for value over 2.1 million pp, you end up with negative number instead.

Confusing? Just don't put large stack of high value item until it's confirmed fixed.
