EVE Becomes Virtual with Oculus Rift

It's not every day that I get to try something as special as this. Announced today at EVE Fanfest, as part of a special EVE keynote in front of thousands of fans, CCP gave us a glimpse of another window into the universe of New Eden.

Named internally as EVE VR, the independent Icelandic studio has put together a dogfighting-style space combat sim, featuring intense multiplayer battles across a cluttered asteroid field. Fighters are launched from two opposing factional ships, ensuring a constant flow of action with little downtime.

If you needed that one last reason to convince yourself to take a trip to Iceland, here it is.

Eurogamer Looks at Graphics Presentation from FF!

Eurogamer has some coverage of EVE's Fan Fest, going on this weekend, including a look at the premium graphics offering, and changes to come.

"EVE in a a state where, if you run the Premium graphics edition, half of it is done, you could say," CCP's chief technologist Halldor Fannar told a press conference on the first day of the EVE Online Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland today.

"The particle system really shows its age now if you're flying a Premium ship," he conceded. "The effects are like from another era."

Lots of good information, and today's presentations should including WiS, so lots to look forward to!

EVE TV & Fanfest

It's time gear up for EVE Fanfest, and the EVE TV folks have some great plans in store for those of us who can't attend! CCP Charlie, the newest marketing guy for CCP updated everyone on their plans!

While EVE TV may be changing a bit in the future, its ideals are still based on "something made by EVE players, for EVE players." I can safely speak for myself and others who have moved from EVE TV to CCP that we'll continue to put all our efforts, and our free time, into bringing you more events in the future.

Fanfest 2008

So next up on the EVE TV schedule is Fanfest 2008, held every year on top of the world in Reykjavik. The Fanfest is always a massive hit with those that can attend, meeting the developers of EVE, other players, their corp mates and getting the first viewing of what will be coming to EVE over the next year.

Silent Auction. It's your chance to get some cool EVE collectable items and also be helping kids on several continents to have an easier hospital stay.

In addition, this EVE Online is encouraging players to bring their wife along for a fantastic Iclandic vacation.

We want you to bring your ladies! Iceland is a once-in-a-lifetime destination vacation. The Sisters of EVE Program will give your partner a chance to visit Iceland along with you: while you discuss the nuances of the Carrier nerf with fellow corpmates, they can take a day trip to a geothermal spa, shop in the downtown district, or tour the Icelandic countryside. And the Reykjavik nightlife is world-class!

Sounds phenomenal, but are you really going to make a girl choose between gaming and the spa? Can't we have both?!
