The Endless Forest: Oh Deer…

There are a huge number of MMOs to choose from at the moment - some would say too many. Certain mainstream genres are underrepresented in MMOs, but that hasn't stopped some niche titles from springing up, many of them coming from Korean developers. However, one of the most niche titles has to be The Endless Forest, from Belgian developer Tale of Tales.

The game's concept is simple: you are a deer living in a forest, and you do deer things. And… that's about it, really. There are no goals in the game; no quests, no character levels and very little content other than running around being a deer. In the absence of a full chat system, communication in The Endless Forest is limited to the use of a set of built-in emotes. However, it's not just any old deer that you'll be playing as - the ones found in The Endless Forest have hideous human faces, which will be part of my nightmares for some time to come. This change is somewhat disturbing, to say the least.

The Endless Forest Community Website Opens

A multi-player screen saver opens a community website and I'm both shocked and appalled I've never played it!
After several months of activity behind the scenes, Michael Samyn and Auriea Harvey have opened The Endless Forest community website to the public. The Endless Forest community of players had been growing steadily and had started to burst out of the Tale of Tales web forums. The new community website offers a place where players of the game can post artwork and images, keep diaries, and check if their friends are online through a live map of the game world.

The Endless Forest is a game without goals or competition. It challenges the imagination and the creativity of the players. Many of them are very talented artists themselves. The new community website offers a platform where their design ideas, artistic impressions and fan art can be shared. A veritable online gallery of some pretty amazing artworks.

The Endless Forest Community Website has its own domain at
http://EndlessForest.org Login requires being registered for the game, which -as always- is entirely free. But most of the content is available to anyone.
Check out both the site and the game and tell us what you think!
