DDO Eberrron UnlimitedFollow

Well, I downloaded the new Free To Play Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited and, I gotta say, I am thoroughly disappointed.

First off, let me say that despite what you may have heard that DDO was going F2P... this is NOT it. They used much of the same design concepts, and a lot of the marketing graphics is the same, but this is a totally new game. It is not the same client.

I tried the 14-day free trial last year and do not remember it being this bad. I downloaded the high-rez 3GB+ version, and I have not seen graphics and gameplay that bad in years. EQ1 was more playable. Dungeon Master, on my old Atari 1040ST, was more playable than DDO:EU.

The combat system was painful to play through, the graphics looked like a 3rd grader had drawn them, and I have seen better UI design from thiswebsitesucks.com nominees.

I am reminded of the old joke about the Dr. slapping the new mother after one look at the child. Well, someone needs to slap the **** outta Turbine for giving birth to this. If a hundred other issues with DDO still have not driven off 100% of their player base, this should do the trick. DDO:EU is going to so poison the franchise name that no one will ever want to put the letters DDO in front of ANY game, ever again.

I will say ONE good thing about it. The dungeon crawl part of the introductory quest and the crypt in the first town felt SO right, the way a DDO dungeon SHOULD feel. It was like it jumped right out of my old DMG onto the screen.

I hesitate to use strong language, so I will just say that I will not be trying THAT again. Turbine, I am surprised that you would release that game, rather than just killing it.

Oh, and to top it off, when I exited the game my entire PC crawled to a dead stop and I had to reboot to clear it.
