It's inevitable for all multiplayer games, but it's still a bummer to see. Phantasy Star Universe is closing its doors for the 360 version's multiplayer. Single-play will of course be still around, but Phantasy Star is and always has been a multiplayer focused game. Phantasy Star Online 2 is upcoming, but 360 fans are without, as it's only for the Vita and PC.

SEGA has announced that it will be shutting down the PC and PlayStation 2 servers for Phantasy Star Universe on March 31. However, SEGA will continue to support the Xbox 360 version of the game with regular updates.

The final update to the PC/PS2 servers will be implemented on Jan. 29 with the start of the MAG+ event. This event will also be held on the Xbox 360 servers. No new PC/PS2 subscriptions will be available after this date, and players with active subscriptions will be able to play for free until the servers shut down.

According to the announcement, "this server/service closure is helping to pave the way for bigger and better things for the Phantasy Star franchise in the very near future!" You can read the full letter after the jump.
