Oh, sure. The only thing that could make a global pandemic better would be watching Gbaji trying to suck hydroxychloroquine out of Trump's dong on a daily basis.

Glad we're still keeping it classy, folks :)

For my part.. I feel like I've made a wish at a carnival Zoltar machine to legitimately remain a recluse.. and like a wicked Djinn it granted my wish.. but the downside is a Global Pandemic...

Unfortunately for me (but fortunate for some others.ok and me too) I'm an essential employee for a healthcare org...
Some of my recent hobbies are trying explain to doctors, clinicians, and therapists how to operate VPN, remote settings, VOIP..and other fun tidbits...
My suspicion is that the reason many doctors are so smart is because they keep the brain-space for ANYthing else utterly vacant...

The county I live in has 40 cases.. but our HQ office (near DC) has almost 1000 cases... So I took it upon myself to drive down there Saturday to set up a new remote access server...
Many offices are abandoned... The most immediately disconcerting part was everyone still had their Valentine's Day decorations still up...
Now a big part of my job is trying to keep the bosses from doing the same thing with cheap laptops that people are doing with toilet paper...
I wasn't quite finished rolling VOIP out everywhere either which is very unfortunate..
Also I procrastinated on installing new circuit for faster connection.. which we are now paying for and not using because if I change it up now every single person will have to reconfigure their VPN settings.. but if not now.. when?

I think I am going to pick up some peanutbutter. I hear lentil beans go a long way too ;)
My worry is my cat food... My one cat is allergic to everything but greenpea and venison!! Can I justify putting delivery people at risk to feed my cat!? (I supposed I could still find it fresh on the roadsides around here.. if I get up early enough...)

On a plug sign though I now have the chance to walk around dressed like Darth Vader in public and get away with it!

It's also kinda cook to know I could crank-call pretty much anyone on the planet right now and they will probably be home!! AND I probably know they are going through the same **** as everyone else!

You'll be delighted to know I also do have a bunch of N95s from my company vehicle emergency kit.
I'll take bids starting at $50.

Losing Prine did suck. Staying at home all the time sucks. Never seeing my neighbors and friends sucks. Scurrying through the grocery store praying for toilet paper sucks. Smiley: banghead

Oh, well. We'll survive this, most of us.

Glad your test was negative, US!

I'm "essential" and South Dakota has not applied a lockdown yet. Sioux Falls has had a large outbreak (about 1.000 out of a population of ~180,000), so the might if our governer wasn't so gorram stupid.

I feel lucky - My employer is continuing to pay me, as is my husbands - and we're not ill. I did apply for paycheck protection for my organization - to cover my pay and our rent. But I hear that pot of money has dried up.

I'm sad for our nations healthcare workers - if you have one in your circle of people - take good care of them.

It's been a while since I've had steak tartare.

On purpose. It's been a while since I've had steak tartare on purpose, but I am learning to cook non-pastas.

I'm still alive as well. Thanks for all the thoughts about me! Haha!

The company I work for put out an "everyone who can do your job remotely must do so now" order a week before the State of California did (so March 12th or so). So I've been working from home the whole time. Oddly, without so many distractions in the office, I'm actually able to get a lot more of the harder code based projects done really fast now. The funny thing about this is that I'd been in a running discussion/debate with my management chain about work schedule requirements, specifically that the new senior manager my group got put into is one of those "I want to visually see my people sitting at their desks from X to Y time, with no variations". I've been a salaried employee with mostly project based workload that doesn't have any specific time requirements (I can code at 3 in the morning as well as 1 in the afternoon). Since we do have some needs to be physically close to the equipment we ultimately support, my team had spread out our hours to maximize coverage, with one guy coming in from 7 to 3, another from 9 to 5, and me from 11 to 7. This allowed us a 12 hour coverage day, giving us some time before and after engineering shift time to make adjustments software updates, etc (stuff that requires folks to not be on the equipment, so best to do in the gaps between shifts). Also allowed me to reduce my rush hour commute time too. Of course, the new manager was insistent that this didn't work, reduced efficiency, etc, etc etc.

Funny thing is that our department has done audits of work completions since the work from home order and the productivity has increased by somewhere around 20%. So, um.... Maybe there's something to this whole telecommute thing. Also, have only put gas in my big honking V8 once in the last 3 months, which is completely insane. Pretty much just drive to the grocery store once or twice a week and that's it.

Also the brewing competitions we were entered in got cancelled, and our beer and cider not returned. Instead they used the alcohol to make hand sanitizer or something. So there's me contributing!

I asked the question on facebook, "are you ready to go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant?"

Results so far:
Mainers: No = 5, Yes = 0
Minnesotans: No = 1, Yes = 5
Wisconsinites: No = 2, Yes = 0
New York (upstate) = Smiley: cry - not yet allowed

How about you; Have your sit down restaurants reopened? Have you/will you patronize them, if not now, when?

I've not yet. I suppose if it was a special occasion and we had a big night planned at a fancy place that had some protections in place, i might go, but my regular old sit downs, I don't need yet. I'm rather enjoying my hubby's cooking despite all the dishes I've had to wash.

North Dakota "Opened" on May 1st. I say that with spite.

We never really officially closed. Yes, they told a lot of businesses to close. Liquor stores could stay open of course. Gas stations. Grocery stores. Anything with a drive through. Anything that could 'create' a drive through or curb side pick up. Some places just said you can come into the lobbies, but not stay here and get your food to go (like my roommates work).

I have had to go to the gas station and grocery stores. Most places installed plexiglass screens everywhere, and have the credit card machines wrapped in clear plastics.

Some places use gloves and buckets to exchange currency/cards. Others dont.

I stay locked in my room, playing ffxiv and animal crossing.

I'm told that I'm essential, I'm not sure why. I spend half my days reading alarmist articles about how the other side is going to be end of us all, the other half I tend to just stare into space. I still put in five days a week, but at the moment I accomplish about five hours of actual work a week. Not laziness or any such thing, just not a lot to do when everyone is stuck at home but I have to be in the office, just in case. Since I haven't had any problems getting my paycheck, I took my stimulus money and spent it on some completely unnecessary knives (I collect them). I also picked up an Oculus Quest because Beat Saber looked kind of fun (it is BTW) and Facebook needs several cameras in my house to make sure they're advertising to me in the most efficient way possible.

That's pretty much South Dakota, too.

Aside from some minor changes in my work environment (face masks, testing temperatures on new clients, restricting access for non-clients), the impact of all this on my life has been negligible.
