We needed an OOT forum to let the new posters in from FFXI and from the new games we are adding. Since most people didn't feel comfortable posting on the existing forum, we've added this one. Originally Illia and Pikko added it as an FFXi only OOT forum. I don't like that idea, as it means adding OOT forums for each game we cover. So I've come up with a new solution. The old OOT forum is now called Rants. This is the new OOT forum. Basically the hope is that you can converse about non-game subjects here and not get completely bashed by the old time posters, but if you want to step over to the other forum and bash heads with the existing gang there, you are still able to do so. Hopefully, we will have enough posters to let both forums thrive.

Let me be the first long time poster to say that this will be the equivilent of the minor legues for flaming. Unless someone's going to moderate it heavily you're going to have the weaker flamers plying their trade here because of a percieved easier target rich enviornment.

Hopefully not.

It is much appreciated as I tend to be wimpy when someone starts bashing me for no reason. /blush

At any rate, we will use it wisely and welcome all gammers alike!

Moebius, I know you find this hard to believe, but some people actually like to play nice. That doesn't make us wimps, that doesn't mean we can't take flaming. It just means that we choose not to put up with the type of attitudes over in the now Rant forum. Personally, I like this solution, and I'm sure the newcomers to the web site will as well.

Oh, and admins? Good job in your handling of the OMG thread and the OOT situation. You handled a difficult situation professionally and efficiently, and we appreciate all of your efforts.

And... just because someone else's humor isn't like your own, it does not make them less worthy or deserving of blatant flaming. Maybe I'm an idealist, too nice, I know this. I just don't see the point of beating someone down for their opinions or sense of humor. Granted, I understand the frustration of mindless posts diluting your soup of knowledge and acquired humor that is now the Rant. However, with the recent shuffle, your clique forum is intact and this new OOTF is perfect for Allahkazam. It's a fresh start, for all the new gamers comming to this great site. New and different doesn't have to mean the end of civilization. Maybe, just the end of the life you formerly knew.

Playing nice really has nothing to do with it. Do a little looking and you will see that there is plenty of "playing nice" in the original OOT forum. There are people who flame indiscriminantly. There are people who rarely, if ever, flame. There are people who have heated discussions and people who completely ignore anything of significance. Posters of all shapes & sizes got along very well. If you didn't personally enjoy attitudes, you had the right to ignore them. Creating a new sugary sweet forum is a cop out solution indicative of, as I said, the complete emasculation of modern society. God forbid someone takes offense at something, let's design for the lowest common denominator.

It's welfare for gamers.

However, they needed a place to post "I bought a new Gameboy Advance in Blue!" and whatnot.

Hence: This forum.

That's a nice assumption, type casting all those who play ffxi. Can I assume you are a bitter, older man? Nah, I kid. Good friends of mine have been playing EQ forever. I just never got into mmorpg's until ffxi came out. Sure, the game has a younger crowd playing it... but there are older, more mature players frequenting the final fantasy realm.
Cliques will form when people are around eachother every day, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that. But I believe the point of this forum is to try to even the playing field if you will. It's a new environment, relatively, and it's easier to meld together if it's on new turf instead of someone's old turf. My point of view anyway.

I'm perusing the Rant forums now and I see you make a good point. A couple of different solutions are being tried out for the FFXIers who want to play nice, be cliquish, or whatever you wish to term it as. I'm not sure how the new OOT forum will work out, but I'm pretty sure it isn't going to be a place for people to frolick and make daisy chains. Who would want that, anyways? When I visited the forum before the changes, it just felt like people were doing more flaming/trolling than ignoring. But, that was just my perception, and I could have been entirely wrong. I'm human, it happens.

It's important to take time away from gaming to sleep and eat, you may be hallucinating.

Because a mod nuked it.

So we can look forward to more moderator action in the new OOT forum?

I'm moderating this forum more than most. We have the ability to delete and edit individual posts. We just don't use it that often. We will probably be more heavy handed in the forum at least until it gets better established.

Ok, the gameboy advance comment was too much, but Moe can say "welfare for Gamers"??

Where's the Justice!

Alla, This is the last post I will make directly referring to the idea of this solution. I will respect the fact that it was your decision to make.

Yeah, but my "[butt]-smells-like-a-flowery-bouquet" got a Brenlo sized nerf bat thrown at it.

So will my very name get me mod'ed out of OOT now?

I like flaming but it was never a reference to that... honest.

This while a great idea in principle, is going to cause confusion if you don't keep that old OoT as Out of topic.
Calling it rants is a BAD BAD idea that will lead to people going to it to Rant about game related issues.
I think that asking the folks who have come here to debate what thier forum should be called is a simple solution to this minor problem.
It would give the people who intend to make it home a feeling of belonging since they named it.

I will probably continue to post on Both forums and EQMain.

*edited due to my inablilty to spell simple words.

Yep, I hadn't thought of this. Might need to rename it?

And although I'm one of those who tends to play nice, I'll probably mostly stay in the Rants forum. Sometimes I like it rough, baby.

Mwahahahahahaha, you thought you could hide this new forum from the Empire, didn't you Alla. But now we will crush your little rebellion!

Yeah, this seems like the minors for the Asylum. By the way, I strongly encourage anybody to feel free to wander in there for a gander. Don't worry, platypi don't bite.
