Origin Fifa "Hack"Follow

Anyone else get effected by this? It seems I was "lucky" in the fact that I only had 1 copy purchased via my account. I requested a refund on 12/25 & got it 12/31, but they've "locked" my account. And by "locked" I mean I don't have access to online features. Not a huge deal, as I can still play Dragon Age (just not multiplayer which I hadn't touched anyway), but its annoying. More annoying because Origin is saying they weren't hacked, which would mean instead it was a glitch that caused EA's stupid DRM service to buy copies of Fifa on Christmas eve.

Boo to that.

Not me. About the only drm I can sort of deal with on PC ( since securom debacle ) is steam and I create a separate account for each game that requires it anyway... I will admit the timings of all the recent hacks ( and I use the term loosely ) is interesting. All of a sudden, even non-gaming people are aware of issues that typically belonged to gamer community only.

Or a group of people out there got access to a bunch of username/passwords and decided to ***** with them. They do it all the time across multiple platforms and games. D3, GW2, Xbox Live, etc, have all had big "omg hacks" moments that end up being just standard account hijackings caused by poor user security. Someone logged into my Xbox Live account one day many years ago and purchased two $20 xbox points with my credit card which was on the account. They didn't do anything with the points, they just apparently did it to spend the money and ***** with me. I got my money back after about a week, and then a week later I got even more money back (a second refund) it was weird, but the ended up double refunding me, and it never got corrected. They also gave me a free month of Gold.

OMG... Why?! Smiley: confused

Edit:
Here's the old Xbox Live hijacking thread I made.

Interestingly enough... guess what was centered around the fiasco? FIFA and EA. Smiley: lol

Those FIFA games are pretty popular over in Eastern Europe, and that area also seems to be where a lot of these hijackers come from. It sounded like, back then, a group had stolen Xbox Live and EA origin account info in order to buy FIFA and points for it to play...

I can only imagine the joy of having over 700 Steam accounts for all my games Smiley: wink2

I do have one alt account for a Russian key I had to activate via VPN and didn't want to risk my real account. Of course nothing happened and now it's just an annoyance to switch accounts to play Alien: Isolation.

I have issues. It isn't as bad as it sounds though. I barely use steam so I only have Last Remnant and Deus EX on it. Obviously, my approach does not scale well, but it is not likely to be an issue until SE starts producing quality crack again.*shrug*

So, I think I just had someone try to log into my account just now. Was sitting at my comp and my phone suddenly was sent one of those text message login codes I had set up. I wasn't logging in and this comp is set as a familiar system so I don't get them from here anyway.

Time to change my passwords on both accounts.
