Pet Damage BonusFollow

I tried doing a search on Alla's forums for information about pets and their weapons, but I failed to find any data.

The information I am looking for is this;

1) Do pets get a damage bonus for their weapons like a player character would? (Basically trying to determine if a high delay 2HS would produce more DpS for a well hastened pet than dual wielding)

2) Is there a way to determine offhand efficiency for dual wielding pets? (I assume it is relative to pet class and pet level, but I want to know how the dual wield skill might apply to the pet, such as would it be max skill level for that level of pet?)

Thanks in advance for your insights! I'm looking forward to reading up on it.

Pet equipping has separate rules than players. They get no damage bonus or ratios. Pet attack rates are not affected by weapons (anymore; they used to take weapon speed but that was changed).

There are only a few certain reasons for equipping pets:

Low levels. Pets attack will use a weapon's damage if it's a certain amount higher than their own. These numbers are not necessarily correct, but for example if you have a level 8 pet that hits for 14, if you give it a rusty two-handed sword it will allow it to hit up to 20. As the pet level increases you'd need better weapons to show this kind of advantage, so unless you're going to pay plat for high-damage weapons it's not worth it later on. Handing my low level necro's skelly pet a rusty scythe turned it into a friggin' lawnmower - and it looked cool, too!

Dual wielding. Certain pets at certain levels have the ability to dual-wield...if they're wielding two weapons. At, say, 24 you can start handing them any two weapons (rusty dagger have been a long time favorite) and they will start to dual. The weapon itself is irrelevant, unless you're giving them a weapon good enough to override their innate damage, like the Rod of Annihilation. After 29 or 34, the pets will dual on their own without weaponry.

Stats. This is where mages turn into vending machines. They can summon pet-only gear and the pets will use the stats (haste on the Muzzle of Mardu) and procs (HP and procs on weapons like the Hand of Ixiblat). These uually work only on higherl-level pets, 50 and above.

This info is from a higher-level necro's perspective, based on extensive research from the mage community. I was looking for the data on the Mage Compendium but couldn't find it readily.

Procs! Don't forget about procs! :)

Edit: Wait, he covered this under "Stats." Nevermind.

Haha that's the kinda thing that makes EQ worthwhile i.m.o. The reason I was inspired for these questions is I noticed my Sk pet was dishing out a little more DpS using a Heavy Iron Spike (Skele lancers look pretty sweet too btw!) than with two hands of ixiblat. Again, single case is pretty circumstantial, so I really appreciate the excellent feedback Debalic. Thanks much!

Edit: Now I am wondering if you all can help me compile a list of which level for which class pets will dual wield? I started a little chart here, and I will update it with your corrections (yes even in Flaming Format for those PTSD cases hehe)

Chart about when your pet will dual wield
Class/Spell Level/Spell Name/Pet Level
Necromancer.../29/Summon Dead/25
Shadowknight/46/Summon Dead/25
Druid............/55/Cannot Dual Wield/??
Shaman......../32/Companion Spirit/24
Mage............../26/Greater Summoning Water/25
Beastlord....../21/Spirit of Keshuval/22
Enchanter......./41/Yegoreff's Animation/??

Please, if I have made a mistake on this let me know and I'll fix it!

I really wouldn't be able to help you out anymore without doing some more extensive searching of Mage knowledge. Or, Tweelis could show up...(was a mage I believe)

Mage pets are also fun if you know a enchanter and a druid. Have enchanter charm newbie mob (IE emp crush). Cast Rune, Haste on mob and hand them full set of mage weapons/armor. Then have druid cast regen, hp buff, and of course a good damage shield.

Me and a friend had some fun in crushbone with that one night :p

Think "Druid AA DS". At Rank 3, it's 650 HP DS. Strangely enough, it can be cast on even level 1 PC's. Playing on Rallos Zek (now Zek =/), I loved to give it to noobs I P lvl'd and guildie alts who had trouble with PKs.. just told them to avoid contact until they found the PKer, then let him beat them as he pleased. The best part is that it's only a four-minute recast timer. Cast it on the noob, let him get hit, then just instantly reapply it. Along with the normal 24 DS for lowbies and, if you care to use it's timer, a Wrath of the Wild line AA, you're talking over 700 DS for the first two hits, then about 50-100 for the next minute or so, and then 24 for a while after that. Of course, most the noobs died on the first hit.. which was great fun. Sometimes, I'd have a noob who a Rogue would want to kill for his/her gear.. the would would come up, backstab, then get the "LOADING, PLEASE WAIT.." message, only to threaten to report the noob for hacking. :D

Anyhow, same thing applies to low end creatures. In truth, though, a Druid who Charms/SoWs/Hastes/ResistBuffs/DS's/uncharms/memblurs animals in the high end game is pretty much doing the same thing solo to anyone who tries to hunt the thing. Wait, why'd I say SoW? I meant, SoE! Then you get see-invis MOBs that run faster than SoW, have +40 to all resists, have a high burst DS and normal DS on them, improved regen, 70% Haste, +30%-ish damage per hit, running around like hell spawns.

Well, that's my off topic post for the day.

What's better is to charm, buff and twink an Orc Pawn from the zone-in, then leave it to jump the next unsuspecting adventurer! Smiley: sly
