I would like to know to. Sony says 2004, then it will probably be last quarter. But i would put my money on early 2005. Expect WoW to come out before EQ2, that voice over project put them back quite a bit.

Last update from the official EQ2 forum stated something like 70% complete. The devs are adamant in every post they make concerning this that it will be out before the end of 2004.

I don't know how they expect to get it polished up and ready to ship so soon. Maybe they order 1200 gallons of Red Bull and are planning to lock the doors (with programmers inside) starting soon.

I also think that they streamlined their beta process after the EQ1 and SWG beta. I get the impression that they want the phase without random people to last as long as possible. Seems like a good idea imho, I always cringe when I read the posts of some of the testers in the WoW beta forums.

What they mean by 70% done is the content. All the game mechanics are done. Not like WOW where they still don't have the hunter playable. Thier just putting in the quests and populating the dungeons and zones with mobs. I would think they don't even have to have it 100% done before shipping if they are working from the lower level quests and zones to the higher levels quests and zone. They can just patch after they go live.
So I fully expect it to be out in 2004. Right now the date seems to be in Nov.
There is about 1200 people beta testing it right now.

From everything I have heard, the closest is before the holidays this year and maybe around November 15th. Whenever the date, I just want it soon!

It doesn't seem near ready for release. I highly doubt it will be ready before '05.

Just leveling from 1-10(not me, definetely not me.. right NDA?) I have found tons and tons of bugs.

Lag is also a big issue, and that damn queue..

Anyway, this is just hearsay from a friend.. yea.. a friend..

All Dev comments made in the last week (ending October 2nd, 2004) state that they are on-schedule for their 2004 release date. Some are still speculating that they'll hit the November 15 mark, but I feel that's a little optimistic.

The dev teams really give the impression of having a well-planned, streamlined beta process for finishing up the game.

Speaking of which, they lifted the NDA for lvl 1-9 2-3 weeks ago, why don't you write up a beta journal and post it in the forum Kaolian? Can't take a break from playing it? :D

They let some fansites post beta journals for lvl 1-9. However, as far as I know, it's still a NDA-breaking act for regular players to mention they're in beta ;)

P.S: Don't take the chance, edit your post.

The release date for both EB Games and Gamestop has been moved up from 11/15 to 11/09. Do you think this is at all reliable? Why would they move the date up?

{ hmmmm }

As a former employee of Software Etc. (affiliate of Gamestop) I can say with confidence that the release dates we are given and in turn give out to the public, are fairly unreliable. I've seen countless games, strategy guides, toys, joysticks, etc., have their release dates moved around before actually reaching the store.

Part of the problem, to be fair, is that we would often have release dates in our system so far in advance, just to be able to give something to the customer, that it is almost inevitable that something will change or there will be a hick-up in the development process. Sometimes even wacky things happen to delay a game.

I remember one game back in 1999 that was delayed by a day or so, because the place it was being packaged, ran out of shrink wrap! I honestly don't know if that is true, but that's the story we were given, and it sounds so far off the wall to be made up, in my mind. I can actually imagine something that silly happening, to delay a game.

It is highly encouraging though, to see a title moved forward, instead of backwards. I can't recall how many times I've seen that, but it isn't often and it is usually a good sign.

Additionally, we are talking about Sony and Everquest, two household names. From what I've heard from Beta testers, the game is operational, with some minor bugs and slow down, I'm unsure if it's server or client side (the slowdown), probably a little of both, because EQ2 does push the limits of todays hardware and the message boards of many sites are filled with people talking about upgrades. SOE's own official website forum, has a thread devoted to video cards, that is over 17 pages long.

I have to think, "What would I do if was Sony?" I know it is common knowledge in the retail world, if not the consumer side, that the holiday season is the most lucrative months of the year and conversely, the post Christmas months tend to see a sharp decline in profits as consumers recover from their (typically) over spending.

What this tells me, as Sony, is that regardless of the success I'm sure to have with a household name and highly anticipated title like Everquest 2, I could still probably sell more games and subscribe new users, by releasing the game at the beginning of the holidays, just before the mad, post Thanksgiving, rush.

Not only that, but I still have a reputation to uphold. This late in the game, I'm still telling my customers that the game will be released in November. I would do better, as previous posters have suggested, to release the game on time, and patch as necessary and fill the content of the higher levels as time progresses.

What would I do, if I was Sony, to make this happen? I would hire extra (temp) programmers, increase the work hours of current programmers, with added bonuses, incentives, and quality of life comforts to ease the strain of a long day of work and triple check that things as trivial as packaging supplies are all in order, well in advance of my projected release date.

Overall, I always have a little of that, "Too good to be true," skepticism, but I am confident that most of us will be playing Everquest 2 in November.
