Ok, I'm feeling a bit stupid now but after getting my signal pearl today I've been trying for an hour to get my NPC buddy out.
I've been in several areas and I just don't know how to activate the pearl.
Do I have to wait 20 hours after getting the pearl?
Do I have to wear the pearl on my ear?
How do I activate it, by clicking on use? Which btw is a grayed out option.
I'm seeing the following numbers on my signals pearls description:

<1/1 0:30/[20:00:00, 0:30]>

Can anyone tell me what they mean?

I can't find the answers to these questions anywhere so if anyone can give them I would be grateful.

My NPC is now wearing the Femal Elvaan RSE body and legs, they they can get some pretty good equip. I wonder what controls this? I'd like her to wear it for many levels, but i know it changes randomly depending on your relationship them (I let her die once and her armor downgraded).

Oh and addressing the 3 theory post above me, i regularly SC with my NPC (GK) and even MB it sometimes. We seem to have a really good relationship, her TP notification is "OK kiddo, i'm ready."

I'll try to update if her call out, dimiss, hp, tp, etc comments change...

# 18) Your NPC will only gain exp off a mob that it attacks (no, aoe attacks that you do which kill 50 mobs do not stack onto your NPCs exp ;.;)

So from what i've read, the only downside to dropping your signal pearl is that your NPC will oly be able to fight 15 mobs instead of 20? Hmm, well if this is all, 2x15 sounds a lot better than 1x20.

I read the initial post and it didnt seem to anwser my following question...

If I trade a weapon to luto my NPC which is in Attacker mode and then later change it to healer mode, does the NPC lose the weapon, still use the weapon or keeps the weapon to use when its back in attacker mode???

It's my understanding your NPC keeps the same weapon regardless of Job Mode. So your healer NPC can still wield the Great Sword (or whatever weapon you traded) after you switch from attacker. The only difference between the jobs that I know of are job ablities and stats. I'm guessing the Defender one in addition to using Provoke has higher Defense than the attacker and healer. The attacker one i'd assume has better attack/strength/accuracy plus get's counter and double attack. Of course the healer is probably the weakest but uses white mage spells.

I am not sure if I mentioned it on this thread or the other thread.

Your NPC do have skills according to role.

The "Healer" Mode do not have hand to hand skill.

She only attack once with the knuckles.

So it is reasonable to assume she might not have any of the weapon skills beyond dagger, staff, club, and maybe sword.

Except for the fact that mine will bust out Shield Break, Iron Tempest, Sturmwid and Armor Break as a level 39 Healer weilding a Great Axe.

Ive called my npc at least 15-20 times now, (its lvl 35) but i can't change its weapon. All luto ever says is 'nothing new come back later'. I have tried to trade butterfly axe and greataxe but it doesnt trade with luto. I tried changing my npc type of job to all 3 but still no luck.

Can someone explain what I am doin wrong please. I have looked through the entire npc post but nothing helps

Luto will ask you for a weapon. I don't know exactly when, but she will tell you your npc is wanting to upgrade, and you are to trade it to her.

Hopefully your not dropping your pearl. If you are it can affect your NPC menu choices and weapons upgrades. With Luto you just have to keep checking with her after an outing and she will tell you your NPC wants a new weapon to test out. So far only 2 upgrades and it seems many say the NPC are capped at 50. ><;;

My NPC is 42 and I have changed weapons 3 times first was great Katana next was the Great Sword and then changed to the Great Axe since your NPC can and will use a AOE ws which isn't good. She actually hits virtually the same with the 2 weapons but if she uses sturmwind that just owns........

Chiming in with something I've found while playing with my NPC, with me using different jobs/weapons, on the "WTF is this NPC Smoking for these WS's???" question.

Babekeke wrote:
# 14) This is an odd one... my NPC used Tachi: Kagero while I was lvl 14... it is a lvl 100 skill, so she should have been lvl 33 to use it, not 14. Even more bizarely, she is only lvl 30 uncapped still as I have not levelled her with a high job yet. Strange, huh?

This is simple, and easy enough to test out...I'm a RDM, and I have both party macros (where I'm always swapping out my weapon and loosing TP) and solo macros (where the weapon swap is removed to maintain TP in battles).

To put it bluntly...my staff skill -sucks-.

Accidentally switching weapons and forgetting to hit my "melee" macro, I've noticed my NPC always does the same WS's...when using my Sword or Dagger (both much higher level than staff since RDM can't skill staff up), she does a range of WS's.

All weapon change (on the NPC) does is generally give different WS's...now yes, H2H gives one punch on Healer, but then only Monk or /monk gives the "normal 100% double-attack" with punching now (changed in I forget which patch)...even when your job has a listed H2H skill, and can (and does) equip punchers, you still only get 1 attack/action, unless you have MNK somewhere in your <job> display.

The weapons do seem to have general ranges of damage/delay, depending on whether you're doing 1 or 2 handed weapons (both hands = slower but harder attacks), but in general, all you get are different WS's.

Here's the interesting part though...no matter what WS your NPC does, one of your WS's -will- close the chain...doesn't matter if they just got that weapon a few minutes ago, the have -all- weapon skills except (no one I know has seen one do) the "quested" WS's...but whatever they throw, if you have -any- WS's, you can "close" the chain.

So take something you have only the 1st WS with, and go fight something, and the NPC will only throw a -very- small number of specials...because they will always throw something you can chain with (but it's up to you to know what WS to use).

Hope this helps (and hey, it beats just saying "bump" heh).

I am beginning to wonder about my NPCs "reputation points" because my NPC at 39 in attacker style is wearing scale armor right now. I have only let him die once, and that was when he was level 33, but i have died twice, but that was at 31 and 34. I skillchain with him on occasion Iron Tempest/sturmwind -> retribution works nicely, but he has strange taste in armor. He might change to a doublet, and then change back to scale. He even once changed to hume starting armor. I'm going to try to SC with him more often and see what results.

Lot of theories out there, but to be honest I really believe that the armor, headpiece, and weapon are overall nothing but bling bling.

My NPC changes armor like a hollywood star changes their hairstyle, but I've not seen a single difference in it's damage, defense, or skills using the various mixes. I think the fact that we can't get an exact report on it's equip or atk/def indicates that aside from racial differences, everything else is stock based on level and any buffs you may cast.

Once it hit 40, it started staying out longer, but it's taking a little longer to level. Based on the XP I think it should be getting if I was its level, I think the xp tables match ours. I have not been able to figure out if it benefits from chaining kills. But that could explain why I've noticed some variation in the numbers of kills. It's increasing over time, but I had one session where I was just cranking out kill after kill after kill with no downtime and it leveled once at the very beginning of the session and then once again on the very last kill. I don't see how else that could be done if it wasn't for the chain.

What I'm wondering now is if there is a NPC that we are overlooking to advance the story. NPC keeps talking about the girl and the dragon, I think it's a clue to the next stage, but I've not found any other NPC that responds to it. My gut says next stop should be Bastok or Windy...

I agree that there is more to come because his message only discusses the girl and the dragon.

I'm sorry this caps at 50 (so far). But I will have fun taking him out farming with me on my daily runs after tommrow when he levels.

As far as armor goes, right now he's only changing to two different outfits. I can't name them sorry.

I just hope whatever the next stage is, we don't have to wait on some figgin line for hours.

My NPC just dinged 40 last night he hasen't changed armor in 5 callings, he now stays for 20 fights and can use head gear (just open the twenty fights and apperances last night). I party with 2 others who lvl NPCs with me, all 3 of us are in FULL Centurion Scale armor (body, hands, legs and feet). We have been lvling in west altep off beetles and ants for about 3 weeks.

of the 3 of us, I was the most recent to drop a perl ( 3 weeks ago) since then I haven't droped a single pearl. I was also the last to open the head gear and "apperances" option so there is a link there.

I am curious if anyone else has found that that their NPCs armor has hit a wall... Is your NPC all in 1 FULL (body, legs, hands, boots) type of armor and will not change out? Please share! Please include what lvl your NPC is in and what Job they have.

Peace!
