what EXACTLY is agi for?Follow

#1 Feb 06 2004 at 3:29 AM Rating: Decent
I've heard it makes you attack more often, but I'm more inclined to believe that it just aids evasion.
Now, does that evasion include shield blocking and parrying? Or just straight dodging?
And how MUCH does it help? For example, if I have a low evasion skill and a high agi, am I as well-off as someone with a high evasion skill and a low agi? Am I better-off? Worse?
Why I'm asking: I'm planning on making a pal/war. I have an elvann war at level 10. My evasion is pretty low (15), my shield and parry are at a miserable 3 each. And none of them ever trigger. To make a good tank, I figure I'll have to dodge pretty well (or parry or block). So I was thinking of restarting as a Mithra, even though they are much less popular for paladins. I also want their extra MP! (Elvaans get CRAP for MP).
However, if it turns out that paladins take so little damage that they don't really need to block/parry/dodge, LET ME KNOW (so I don't have to scratch a lot of work); same for if it turns out that they don't need much in the way of MP.
Also, is there a stat that contributes directly to defense, i.e., to how little damage I take?
Please, any input would be great, especially from elvaan or mithra paladins. Thanks

Nah, you can stick with your elvaan, they make good paladins.

If you want to raise your shield/parry/evasion, get some agility bonus items. Someone with high agl will raise their a/p/e quicker than someone with lower agl. If you want to go pally, use a sword and shield and pick a subjob that will give you the best stats in vitality and hp *cough* monk *cough* so people will pick you to be the main tank until you go pld/war.

Also, vitality is the stat most associated with defense. As a tank, you'll want high vitality.

good luck.

Thanks for the input, I'm feeling a little better. Still would like more MP, but I assume I can get that from items. (?)
And I'm going warrior first, so I don't really need to sub monk for awhile, unless you mean that it's better for soloing, in which case I would certainly take it up!
So are you saying that the skills (shield, parry, evade) are more important than the agility itself?

well, once you turn level 18 you basically need a subjob to keep up.. and as a tank, there's NOTHING better than a WAR/MNK until the advanced jobs show up (you should level this subjob to 15, so it follows your WAR all the way till you get PLD.

However, you might wanna concider THF instead, since having that at 15 is a very good thing later on (treahure hunter, for farming). WAR/THF isnt a very bad idea either.

And, your skills WILL rise.. and rise fast, once you start partying and fighting tough, very tough and incredibly tough monsters..

And to add yet more to the above: Elvaan might be THE best suited race for PLD.. so don't change it ;) (only Galka could be arguably better).
Considering the PLD class gives extremely lousy AGI and DEX, the mithra will not have a great benefit in this class (a few more MP, yes, but lower strength and mind (power of cure spells)..

AGI is also the main stat that Rangers are interested in. AGI is used to determine Ranged Accuracy with bows and guns.

Agi to Theif is what the Job Ability "Trick Attack" is based off

1 AGI gives you 2 Evasion and 2 Ranged Accuracy.

Agility is the most important stat to Rangers, and Rangers have the highest Agility in the entire game.

DEX is important for melee because it gives you melee speed, accuracy and raises your chances for critical attacks, but there are a LOT of DEX boosting items so any job can be great at meleeing.

Elvaans quite possibly make the best Paladins as they have VERY high VIT and HP and the highest MND which is perfect for the enhancing and healing spells Pally's use.

Be an Elvaan Pally and be proud of it! Personally I would focus on DEX enhancing items but you may want to find some AGI enhancing items as well for evasion.

As for Thiefs, they rely mostly on DEX. DEX gives them accuracy for stealing, and Sneak/Trick attacks. AGI only helps Thieves dodge better.

I hope this helps.. :D
