Design suggestion for Zone Level ChartsFollow

These are very helpful but because there are so many rows, sometimes it can be hard to maintain a read on the level for each column, since it only appears at the top.

I suggest adding a row at the bottom providing the same level info.

Also, maybe insert a row in the middle somewhere with the same info.

Finally, if you really want to go nuts, color code the columns by using background colors and at minimum alternate white and a light pastely color, so the eye can
easily scan down a column to review the zones appropriate for a certain level.

Just a few suggestions to enhance readability and useability.

One other thing, I see regularly in other forums, particularly Everquest's own, the exchange where someone will mention they got info from allakhazam and others
will respond to the effect: oh, is that site still around?

I don't know exactly how to solve that problem, other than big-budget advertising on gaming sites, which I'm sure is not in the budget.

This happens often to me in game on various servers. People ask questions in chat which could be trivially solved by visiting this site. Of course, some people
just like to "talk" and will ask the question even if they know the answer. But you get the idea.

Some good ideas! I created a ticket for the zone level chart changes. I don't know when I'll be able to get to it, but it's on the TODO list now.

As far as advertising, I'm not sure what Fanbyte's budget is on any of that. I think most advertising for this site is circulated well on the EQ forums among players who use the site regularly, however there are many people who don't look at the forums and like you said, ask for people to hand them info in game. Usually if I see someone ask a question about something in game that we have info for, and that question that requires a bunch of info being relayed, I'll give them the url to the site and what to search for. I don't want to blatantly just advertise the site in areas where advertising is frowned upon because it's usually met with criticism and then followed up by people pointing out problems with our site. I usually give suggestions to new players to do some google searches for EQ info so they can build up a list of sites to get their info from because each site has a strong points and weaknesses.

I hear that about "advertising," And, you're right, some people just want info handed to them. I have an in-game friend who sends me some questions that would be so better answered by searching allakhazam.com. I tell her that and she says "But, you're my EQ info source.' Flattery will get her nowhere! Probably...

Complaining about this site is pure sour grapes. Not to schmooze much but there's no place with close to the same amount of info. I do enjoy Almar's breezy style of writing and Magelo is useful for seeing specific spawn spots for mobs but beyond that there's nothing that competes with alla. Plus I love the longevity, which is the reason I use it as my own "notepad" for keeping track of useful info. Every time I've printed out info and written stuff down, inevitably I lose it all.I've started a new druid over a dozen times over the years (playing one on Agnarr now) and I always have to print a fresh list of druid spells...
