Which does more dps while facing the front of a mob and all else being equal; a monk wielding a shield or an sk wielding a shield?
I'm not interested in speculation. Also, I am not interested in low comparisons like a lvl 10 sk and monk. I would be interested in any nuances such as which would have better burst or sustained damage.

Odd to even imagine a monk using a shield. I guess if he had to tank and was focused on survival more than dps, he might. But then monks are rarely used as tanks.

If you're not interested in "speculation", you're unlikely to get non-speculative answers here. To avoid speculation, someone needs to equip an "all things being equal" pair of monk and sk with a shield and the same weapon and parse a lot of fights. Generally, also an ideal monk primary is going to be different from a sk's ideal primary so you'd be adding variables that aren't realistic.

Why the question? If we knew the ultimate goal of this question, that might help. I'm more curious why the question than I am the answer, but that's just me.

That was very presumptuous of me to assume they would use the same weapon. Of course sk will be using a higher dmg/dly weapon. I just was interested in comparing the same gear tier and level with equal buffs or no buffs.

I play a monk, necro, enchanter, wizard, and a warrior and noticed that the warrior's damage output is very weak.
I noticed that while tanking with the monk, my healer's performance (measured by ability to keep tank alive) remains constant.
I am considering rolling another wizard, or bard, or sk to replace my warrior. I would only use the sk if using a monk to tank did not make sense, because a bard would compliment my spell caster heavy group. So far it seems that the ench, necro, and wiz can manage aggression very well. I know monks cannot tank in all situations, but for this one I would keep the monk unless sk's are better at damage, then it would be sort of pointless to keep a monk as a tank.

What level are your toons? Warriors aren't designed for dps, of course. Their raison d'etre is to absorb damage and hold aggro.

Monks should always out-dps shadowknights. But if you're boxing a group with a lot of firepower you might prefer the sk's ability to hold aggro on multiple pulls. I think a box group relying on a monk to tank, though, is going to have problems with challenging or big pulls, big meaning lots of adds.

What's doing the healing? Is it a merc? They're never close to as good as a real cleric, or even real shaman or druid.
