Summary

There is a lost little boy in the Parade Grounds. Help him find his father.

Walkthrough

This is the first step for the Paladin AF1 quest, but is listed separately since anyone can do this step. Paladins must give the willow fishing rod back to the son to move on to the AF 1 quest.

Speak with young Ailbeche who has lost his father and needs you to find him. You can find his father in Southern San d'Oria in the weapon shop. His name is Exoroche.

Speak with him and then bring word back to Ailbeche of his father, get a cutscene, and receive the willow fishing rod.

Give the willow fishing rod (or any willow fishing rod, not necessarily the one you get from the father) to the son to get the title.

Ailbeche is at(J-9). Hes infront of the fountain (when coming from Southern San d'Oria, right infront of you).

Quote:
"Speak with him and then bring word back to Ailbeche of his father and receive the fishing rod. Give the fishing rod (or any Willow Fishing Rod, not necessarily the one you get from the father) to the son to get the title."

You have to talk to the father of Ailbeche, Exorche. He will ask you to go back to Ailbeche to tell him to wait there for his father. When you talk to Ailbeche at this point, a cutscene will play, with Exorche and his son being re-united. (His father is quite mean) After the cutscene, Exorche will give Ailbeche's fishing rod to you. Give it back to Ailbeche (trade) and another short cutscene will play. After the cutscene, the quest is completed, and your title will be Family Counselor.

I did this quest when I started to play but never gave back the poor kid the rod. Now I regret it since I am PLD30 atm and will need to look for AF1 soon.

Anyway, I hope I can still give some other willow rod back to him sometime soon when I return to Sandy ;).

Yeah, you can't get the Honor Sword if you don't give the kid a rod, so have a heart and help the kid out.

Guess what. This quest IS related to paladins. You cannot complete the lvl 40 paladin AF sword quest unless you RETURN the pole to the kid.
Aww

If you're feeling sad about that kid
You can always trade with the kid and give him back the Rod.
I did, but I already had a couple -

- Goblin Fishers drop them. *hint hint*
has positive efffect if you choose pally as your main job

Possible Future Quest?
# Nov 06 2003 at 12:10 AM Rating: Decent
If you go back to the shop you found the father in and speak to the shop owner he will tell you that it's very sad that the father leaves his son all alone so much and that he's heard a rumor that the father has been going from weapon shop to weapon shop searching for something.

After giving back the pole to the child, he started asking when his father was going to go fishing with him.

Sounds like the potential for a future quest, or possibly an unsolved one, but so far I have found no other clues.

I heard giving it back to him has some effect if you want to be a Paladin.

Don't give the rod back to the boy out of pity..

I thought I'd see what it did if I gave it back. Was hoping for another quest or reward.. nope. Nothing. Kid just takes it back and says thanks.

if you did this quest correctly, half of the people from the town who tell you to get the hell out of their town from the beginning will stop telling you to get the hell out of their town and switch to "we don't like outsiders like you", I wonder if they will crack out their patch forks and tourches if you give the kid a broken rod..... XD
