A little expensive
# Jan 03 2007 at 2:28 PM Rating: Decent
Going for around 2k singly on AH on Hades. 50k for a stack.
.
# Jul 28 2006 at 10:07 PM Rating: Decent
in Jeuno on Asura they're going for 70k a stack amd 3k single (i dont understand why the singles are 50%+ cheaper)
expensive!

These feathers sell for 3k on fairy at windy. SO not worth the 1.5k and i guess fame you get from it, since it's a loss of 7.5k

OMG! You think that expensive! On leviathan a feather is 6k, and stacks are going for 90k right now.

I've been farming cockatrice meat for cooking and have been getting the giant feathers also. At first I was just selling the feathers to npc. Then I realized I could build fame and get more gil out of them.

So the reason for this post: After you do the hat in hand quest, you can start doing this one. The quest is repeatable, but you must zone after each time you turn in 3 feathers.
Fame?
# Sep 28 2004 at 7:40 PM Rating: Default
So what youre saying is that SE added 16 new levels of fame in the last patch? Otherwise i dont get the Fame:25 requirement.

actually fame is referred to in 2 different manners. Either fame (which roughly translates to number of quests complete... but not quite). And Fame level. Which, is more or less every 10 quests completed (again, that is an estimation that is by no means accurate). Typically quests have a base fame increase (I am going to use the same scale that is used for magic, skills, and crafts). This base value can be estimated to be between .1-.5. Now, typically quests give more then .1 (e.g. Eco warrior appears to give .5 on the first run, but don't quote me on that), however, repeatable quests typically drop down to .1 after the first time you complete them. So, in theory, it could take you as many as 10 quests to get 1 point of fame, or 100 quests to get you to level 1 fame (The quest that sort of drives this home is the bat wing quest in Sandoria). Making the max that you can get of 99. Or level 9 fame. That is one reason a person with level 3 fame can complete a quest, while another person with level 3 fame can not. The one may have a rating of 39, while the other could have 31. Since you can not see the exact amount of fame you have, one needs to speculate, or test it to the point of leveling your fame. Either way, it tends to be a hit or miss (ussually hit:) if you try to complete a quest that is *at* your fame level.

With that said, you then have 5 different types of fame. 4 Regions, and Outland. The 4 regions are Bastok, Windurst, Sandoria, and Jeuno. While Outland can be split up into five specific regions. Rabao, Khazam, Mhara, Selbina, and Norg (aka Tenshodo). To my knowledge, no one has found a single Norg quest that gives fame to Bastok, however, I do not know of anyone completing any of the Norg quests anyways (other then the typical nin scrolls), making it the only exception to the next rule. Each of the Outland region's fame directly influences the associated town. Now for Rabao and Khazam that is easy to tell. Simply check the auction house and you will find that Rabao is directly linked to Sandoria, and Khazam is directly linked to windy. Mhara is obviously windy, but also is rumored to go to Jeuno fame. As for Selbina, it is rumored to be Bastok, Sandoria, and Jeuno.
Anyways, back to the point of this lecture.
if you see a fame that is less then 10 you can assume they are referencing the level (since there are only 9 levels of fame which roughly translates to 99). This is simliar in every aspect to the Crafting skills where at level 8-10 (since there is no test for fame, it's pretty much a given that we can consider the levels at every 10) the player gets to attempt to attain their next level. With fame, you just naturally progress (such as weapons and weapon skills).

I hope this makes sense, and sorry for the lecture (should probably put this in the forums instead of here.

I've gone to the Mountains several times to try and kill Axe Beaks for these feathers, but for the life of me I couldn't find any. I've only seen the Tabor Beaks in Sarumauge, and I can't take those yet. Any idea where they spawn? Thanks. :)

There is no time limit on this quest after u accepted.
so I would suggest ..... try it when you are higher lv?

oh BTW inventory space is much more important.
so try accept the quest first before u went hunting!!
i know its silly but. . .

They are there. We found about what appear to be 4 areas they are at.. Only 1 at each area. So we do a lot of running around. They are difficult.. as a Theif/Redmage duo at level 25 we are having a very TOUGH time on these. We just decided to level one more time before going back. They check to be only tough, but very difficult, they can hit hard. We can have almost half health, and die in one stroke from these guys.

Just keep on running around the zone, south of the spine. You'll eventually see them and get to know the area they are in. For example, one is usualy near the spine above the letter "l" in the name of the area just south of the spine. key word would be "usually" not always :).

Feathers ARE stealable by a theif. I did steal one. They are a pretty rare drop, we actually managed to get 2 one run in about 2 hours (1 of thoes stolen, 1 dropped). (with 1 death in there). The next run when we died early, is when we decided to wait until we level to try again.

I decided to farm axe beaks at 35 (sam/war). They had been "easy" since 30 so I thought I'd smack these wimps around for an easy 1500g. The first one went down without a problem. Max hit on me was 28 and it used some INT-down AE which was completely useless against me. The second one didn't go so well. It hit considerably harder (40), nothing I couldn't handle really, but right as it dropped to 70% it used Balefull Gaze on me. Let me tell you, it is extremely frustrating to watch a mob that has been "easy" for at least 5 levels whittle you down while you're utterly helpless.

So...if you want to farm axe beaks at any point before 40, bring a friend.

thieves can steal these feathers, i'd suggest having 2 thiefs in party for this quest.
What to kill
# Dec 09 2003 at 7:34 PM Rating: Default
Went to Meriph. Mtns. to get G. Bird Feathers for this quest. Jubjub birds (vulture model) dropped 'a bird feather' so don't fight those.

Axe Beaks (scary two-legged feathered dinosaur model) I guess are supposed to drop the feathers needed, and they also drop cockatrice meat. In 6 kills of Axe Beaks i got 1 meat and 0 G. Feathers. Then night fell and I couldn't find a single Axe Beak (day spawn only?) I gave up on them and just bought feathers in the AH.

There is a single spawn of them near E-9, but i suggest getting Ranger sub out and scanning for them. They have about 600-650 hp, so be sure you can deal with that before hunting them solo.

Hat in Hand reward doesnt matter, just requires 25 fame.

I'm level 16, Rank 2 and have completed 23 quests, and he still won't give me this quest. I just keep getting hat in hand. As well, I've zoned a tonne of times. Maybe there is some other requirement?

level 13 monk, rank 2, completed a little over 20 quests, completed Hat in Hand with 200gil reward (if I remember right, that was a couple weeks ago) all I get from him is Hat in Hand again.

Going to try doing it for perfect 300 and then see what he does.

The biggest thing about the Final Fantasy quests is leaving the zone and/or time.

Albeit, fame and level do have a hand in them, of course.

We did the Windshear Hat quest at level one, zone, came back, no other quests.

Stopped by and talked with him at level 7 and he gave us the quest.

After giving him the three feathers, leaving the zone and returning, he asks for three more.

Haven't gotten three more to give him, so unknown if it's a third quest or just a repeatable one. There isn't another "current" quest listing when he asks for three more feathers.

Whoah..

I'll have to try this since the three feathers I bought were 1200 plat total. That means that if he offers it again and again, I'd make 300 gil a shot (argh.. said plat, stupid EQ!) from large feathers I can buy at auction.

I could not get this quest, then I did like 3 more quests and could do it.

Since I figured the drops would be rare, as well as the areas too hard for me at level 10, I bought the three feathers for a total of 1,200 gil, then got the 1,500 gil reward and more fame. Yay!
"Faction" maybe
# Nov 07 2003 at 11:53 PM Rating: Decent
There is no visible faction but I have read that there is faction none the less. You might have to complete some more quests before he'll give you the next. I finished the first and I got the hat and 200 gil. Now he calls me a slacker and tells me to get lost. I'll try gaining some levels, see if that works.
Extra requirements
# Nov 04 2003 at 1:57 AM Rating: Default
I'd guess the additonal requirements are having done well doing the "Hat in Hand" quest. I did the best possible (hat + 200 G) and later on got a new quest...but they shut down for the patch before I could ask! I'm a 7 RDM, so maybe it's a minimum level as well?

Requirements

Must have additional requirements
