I took this guy out with my 34 Necro last night. I was at 80% hp and 60% mana when i pulled him. He was at 11% when he feared my pet, darkness wore off and i was oom :( Needless to say ,but I will anyways, I died. So I summoned a new pet, med to full this time and dropped 6 dots on him :Torment, vamp curse, boil blood, darkness, venom, and heart flutter...sicked hasted pet and ran :) He went down easy I finished with 60% hp and 70% mana. I thihnk i had to recast darkness once and venom once. IMHO a shaman is a Necro's best friend...you just can't beat sow potions. This may be coincidence but not long after I killed him I saw the text "A breeze blows across the ships..." or something like that. Then some bloodthirsty troll zombies spawned and throttled me....might be connected I don't know. Well good luck to yall :)

Spawning Mokon...
# Oct 08 2004 at 4:39 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, just to add my Smiley: twocents...

Been camping him to get the Idol using my Ranger / Shaman Duo-boxing team. Started when both hit level 40. I've tried all the suggestions I have read in all the preceeding posts, and this has worked the best for me:

KILL EVERYTHING Smiley: yikes

Why would I say that? well, at level 40, everything on the beach is still dark blue, still gives great XP and drops a nice amount of cash and loot that sells for a good amount of cash.

So, during the time that I was obliterating the MOB's on the beach (including the 2 underwater spawns just off the beach near where Mokon spawns), I was able to get Mokon to spawn about once every 3 hours. It took until the 4th Mokon spawn for me to get the Idol to drop Smiley: yippee , and by that time, I had both toons 1/2 the way to 43 (also, did this over a course of 2 RL days). Now, this is where I started to get lazy Smiley: snore and only started killing dark blue MOB's. To my suprise, Mokon never spawned for the next 2 levels Smiley: eek

At this point, I was grouping with 2 other friends (40 Beastlord / 39 Enchanter with my 45 Ranger / 45 Shaman) and I was working on my leadership points Smiley: waycool , so I told them, "Hey! let's just kill everything on the beach and see what happeneds again."

Not suprising, after 1 hour of getting our routine going, Mokon spawned - and from that point on, for the next 8 hours (LOOOOONG play day for me that day...) , we were able to make him spawn 7 more times!!! He only dropped 1 more Idol (gave it to Beastlord) but I did get a bow, gained another level, and ALOT of cash.

In the end, This is what happened:

1) Ranger / Shaman both went from level 40 to level 46+ in less than 24 hours of casual game play (wasn't pushing for XP)
2) Ranger made over 6 points in leadership XP while grouped with others
3) Total Platinum from cash drops and selling vendor loot was over 2,300pp (from both toons)
4) Took alot longer for Mokon to spawn when I was being selective as to which MOB's to kill

So, my best advice I can give so as to make Mokon spawn - regardless of previous posts:

KILL EVERYTHING!!!!

Good luck, and good hunting...

His spawn point is by the rock near the eastern wall of the beach, not random at all. Not sure of the loc but it's listed here I believe.
Oh Mokon where art thou

7 darned straight hours and no Mokon. I want my idol so Mokon next I show up ya better spawn with me idol or I will be using your spot for a latrine. This is all my fault i sold an idol for 5k and i have gotten greedy but at least cracked finger bones drop and my guild does the quest often.

Soloed with 42 mage
# Apr 07 2004 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent

I started soloing here midway through level 40. I had a nice little cycle going. Kill the three spawns between the ship and the east wall, move up along the east wall, circle around and back down to the ship and kill the last two spawns there. By the time I completed the cycle the three I started with were getting ready to re-pop.

This became such a mechanical process that after a while I never paid attention to what had spawned. When Mokon spawned, I didn't realize it was a named mob. I thought I was pulling another pestilent troll zombie. Unfortunately I did this when I was at only 20m. I alternated betweena light nuke (~200 points) and a pet heal and things were going okay until I ran out of mana. Then pet quickly died and I followed close behind him.

I was bound in the lighthouse so the CR was quick. I resummoned my focused fire pet and fully equipped him and then tried Mokon again. This time I started at 60m. I used the same tactic as before, alternating between the 200 point nuke and the pet heal. I got a bit worried about ol' Sparky a couple of times, but we took him out. I was down to 30m at the end.

His only drop was the idol.

After this bit of excitement, I fell back into my pattern and forgot about him. Considering how long I'd been XPing there and having only seen him once, I figured he was a very rare spawn. Therefore I was quite surprised to find that I had unknowningly pulled him again on my next circuit! Fortunately Sparky and I were in good shape and we had him down to 15% when he cast some sort of Fear on me and sent me running out across the water. I wasn't too worried as I had just healed Sparky and he was at 60%.

My confidence in Sparky was not misplaced. However, when Mokon died, I got no XP and his corpse disappeared! What the!?!? Normally I can target my pet and assist him to locate the corpse of the last thing he was fighting, but this didn't work.

I have since levelled to 44 in this area and have not seen Mokon again.

I'm not sure if I'll spend 44 here or not as things were beginning to turn lt. blue at 43. But if I do, hopefully I'll run into Mokon again.

Camping Mokon
# Feb 29 2004 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
I have solo camped Mokon for 6 levels, and have taken him down 10 times (2 deaths, grrr...). He has yeilded three bows, 8 Symbol's of Loyalty, skins, jewels but no Idol of the Juggler to date.

Here is some advice on getting him to pop more often after clearing the PH's. Always clear the 4 PH's on the beach, then exit the area and clear up farther along the cliff wall. Exiting the area seems to speed up the number of cycles it takes for Mokon to show up. Also, there is a spawn point underwater just off the beach at a sunken ship; be sure to clear that also.

As for the fight, hit him soon as he pops. Seems to be tougher if you let him start casting / buffing after he shows. Make sure you raise your desease resists, he's got a decent DoT. Don't solo him below lvl 40, unless you're a cleric / pally / SK with Undead spells, or you like a real challenge ;)

damn idols
# Nov 25 2003 at 7:11 AM Rating: Default
All I seem to get off this guy are the idols, I don't know why I see that people are having trouble getting it. I've killed him 6 or 7 times already and got nothing but idols. Now all my toons have one, I just decided to camp them all there after the third one came up and I had to let it rot because no one else came and got it. I'm patiantly waiting on the bow for my WAR and ROG, but I'm about ready to give up on it ever droping. I haven't even seen the symbol drop yet either. Very frustrating!!!!

The Charm
# Sep 24 2003 at 6:12 AM Rating: Decent
I can attest to the fact the charm does exsist. It dropped when he popped the second time on back to back spawns. The previously posted stats are correct. It is out there but it is just like all good things in EQ, you must wait for it. =(
what lvl is Mokon
# Aug 21 2003 at 8:45 AM Rating: Decent
My 38 pally con'ed yellow to Mokon the other day. So I would say he's either a lvl 39 or 40 for that spawn. Anyways, I was with a 44 monk and we got feared and I got life tapped. We did take him down and at the end of the fight we were both at 1/2 health. He did not drop the charm either.

Conned blue to my lvl 40 Pally. Took him on solo and got slimed and life tapped the first time. Got back for corpse and took him on again. Chain stunned him, and Rodcet Nife got through for two hits. Took him down with 25% health left. Got the Symbol...

He's going down till he gives up the bow and charm.

Spawn Time
# Aug 08 2003 at 9:44 AM Rating: Decent
Ok this is fact. He is a random spawn. There is no set time for him. I have camped him for 12 hours and not seen him...and I have seen him spawn 4 times in 3 hours. I still do not have the bow cause he hasnt dropped it. I keep getting the symbol to drop. I think all the named in the LoY expansions are randoms. I know the captains on the boats in Dulak are and Mokon is. I have been here for 4 hours today and still no spawn. 12 PH kills so far. So if your looking for him...good luck. And remember, Patience is a Virtue.
RE: Spawn Time

Agreed. I've been chasing this charm for.... too long now. PHs, Times, etc. are all baloney. This is a random spawn and the Bow and Charm I _swear_ are ghosts ;)

Ummm... no. He said, correctly, that it's not timed. He most certainly has placeholders.

West side, on the shore, second monster from the wall. PHs are deadly skeletal sailor, and maniacal zombie. Pesilent troll zombies, vicious skeletons, ect. will not spawn at that spot. This is just a very rough estimate, but I'd say 60% skeletal sailors, 35% manical zombies, and 5% Mokon. Sea Captain Azobus has the same PHs at about the same ratio. He's located in the capsized ship on the northwest end of the beach. Oddly, I keep the bow off Mokon. Only got 1 symbol, and no charms out of about 5 or so kills.
Spawn Time
# Jul 28 2003 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent
I had seen reports of a 2 hour spawn time. We hung out for 5 hours last night getting the Female Erudite to spawn for a guildee cleric. Mokon appeared once an hour in and never showed again. I don't think he has a PH per se, as has been said, he has a spawn point and some timer which is 4 > x > 2...
Real spawn
# Jul 15 2003 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
there is no single type of mob that is his place holder. All you have to kill is the mob that is standing in the spot he spawns, it could be a skelital saior, pestilant zombie, ect ect. He is a bit under con'd, but still soloable. I killed him 6 times solo with my 41 necro. Here is my suggestion, (if you are a necro) cast one of your weaker pets, one that will last just long enough for you to feign death. tell your pet to attack him and then feign death. He will Harm touch your pet and kill him quickly. After that, you can be brave and stand up hoping he forgot about you, or /q out the game and log back on to take away aggro, recast your highest lvl pet, buff him, give him two good weapons (yes they do make a difference) and send your pet in after mokon again, this time, mokon has no harm touch, because it is a long recast time. he still hits very hard and fast, and is cast happy, so dont pull your pet off him, hopefully your hasted pet will interupt any fear or mez spells. now this is a really important part... cast shackle of spirit on him. When your pet has got him down to 70 percent health left, cast a poisen type dot, wait a bit, do drain spirit. probably still need to heal pet once or twice. then viola! you have just killed mokon brokenskull.

note: i didnt actually cast smaller pet to go in and waste his harmtouch, some dumb bard pulled him and died in like 10 seconds, then i went in and killed him. the other times i killed him i was too dumb to cast a lower mana cost pet, and though i killed him about 6 times, he killed me about 3. I have never seen the charm he drops. Every time i killed him i got the symbol, except for the very last time i killed him i got the bow, which is what i was camping him for anyway.

some info
# Jun 17 2003 at 5:39 AM Rating: Decent
I figured i would camp this guy solo for the Idol of the Juggler. Being that i tend to only use 2 bags at most. So far probably about 15 kills and all three times he spawned he dropped Symbol of Loyalty to Nadox. This is a long boring camp, about a 20 min respawn. he spawns near
-182.21, -1013.05 right along the shore. Hopefully he drops the charm soon so i can get some sleep

His harm Touch was for 361, he likes to cast fear a lot and his second favorite spell seems to be darkness, 90MR was enough to resist all of it cept the Harm Touch. With AC in the 900's his hardest hit was 89

I got the Symbol of Loyalty from him, last night. He conned DB to my 42 Beastlord. I didn't know who he was, but I thought, "Oh a named mob."
I slowed him and sent my Warder in for the kill. DoTed him and he HT for 361, then feared me and I went off for a swim. Fear lasted about 10 seconds.
Swam back to shore, cast Lev on myself, then went back and did the Pet Cleric thing, until he was dead. He was hitting my Warder for 89.
Now I know who and what he is, he'll be much easier now. Here's hoping I see more of him and he drops the Bow and charm.
What I did to kill him
# Jun 07 2003 at 4:43 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, after hearing about this guy we decided to try him out. It was myself (52 druid) and my gf (52 beastlord). We found were he pops fairly quickly (the far left of the beach when the lighthouse is to your back, between a broken ship half in the water and the wall. He spawns right on the waters edge along with two other spawns). His place holders are manicial zombies, and their placeholders are deadly skellie sailors. After 3 cycles of manicials, and about 20 deadly sailors, Mokon popped. He was an easy kill for the both of us, conned light blue. Dropped the symbol, only took an hour to get him to pop, only killed him the once then moved on. Hope this helps!

Well, decided I would camp him again for another bow for a guildie. So went back to my spot with my 47 druid and 40 warrior. (dual boxing). and we only killed the ph's no other mobs. yeah I know i'm lazy heh, would get a skellie then zombie then 5 skellies then 5 zombies no Mokon Smiley: frown . But after 23 PH's he finnally popped ) as normal clicked off my SoW and run to walk in case i got feared, did resist poison, disease, magic (well endure magic) and headed in. As usual he started off with his HT (max of 361 but can be resisted) and my warrior (with the druid buffs) completly soloed him, druid went LD...dang slow 2nd...during the battle. But he did drop the bow Smiley: wink !!!
As for the Sea Captian Azobus...
if you head north east according to my map and go into the hull of the broken ship he spawns there all the way in the back. same named ph's as Mokon. dropped sleeves first time and shoulders second time (druid hunted with a monk friend for a bit before hand)

My experience
# Apr 19 2003 at 6:43 PM Rating: Good
Yesterday my bf and I decided to camp Mokon to get his Rogue one of the Idols of the Juggler. We camped him for about 5 hours (ick) it was worth it tho... I guess :-P

When we got to Gunthak we ran East to the beach from the lighthouse. As soon as we got there, we saw a Monk camped there. He looked to be pretty low lvl, was blue to us at 42 and 43. I inspected him and to my surprise he already had an Idol of the Juggler, so I knew then he wasn't there for Mokon. My bf sat near the water to check on spawns. I decided to log onto my 52 Beastlord instead just in case... boy was I lucky I did. He was DARK BLUE at 52! He also has A LOT of hp and does lifetap for 350 or so. So I seriously doubt he is 36, otherwise he would have been light blue to me. :-P Anyway, when I got there I got my pet up, buffed a little, and killed all spawns along the left wall and around Mokon all the way back to the shipwreck. We tried many strategies to get him to pop and only one seemed to work... killing his PHs, which are "a maniacal zombie". The zombies' PHs are "a deadly skeletal sailor" as rivethead has already said, so in order to get him to pop... we killed all the "a deadly skeletal sailor"s which triggered the "a maniacal zombie"s spawn and the maniacals spawned Mokon shortly after. There are 2 maniacal zombie pops, and many deadly skeletal sailor pops, they're random. 1 maniacal zombie pop is in the middle of 3 pops at the shore on the left wall (Mokon's spawn point) another is in the bak of the shipwreck at the back of the wall. The only time Mokon will spawn is if the 2 maniacal zombies are up. Kill both of those and he *should* pop. It's very helpful to kill all spawns along the wall and such too tho, so I suggest it. :-) He, and his PH's ("a maniacal zombie") are on a 20 minute timer. We got him to pop twice while we were there. First time he dropped the Symbol of Loyalty to Nadox, second time he dropped the Sturdy Wrapped Bow. (Very nice bow. Very fast) But no charm. :-(

"What did we do the rest of the time there?" you ask? Well...

Another spawn we discovered while camping was "Sea Captain Azobus" he seemed pretty random, so I dunno how we got him to spawn. He spawns in the shipwreck in the maniacal zombie's spot. He dropped Dull Metallic sleeves, but when I looked him up today I found he drops another item too, Pitted Mail Pauldrons. They're both pretty nice items so if you want to camp him, I guess kill everything in sight, that's all we had to do to get him to pop. :-P

After that it was hell trying to get Mokon to spawn. We spent another 2 hours just trying to get his PHs to spawn. They spawned one after the other, but for some reason he never showed. We finally gave up. But it seems that when Sea Captain Azobus is killed it slows down Mokon's spawn, so if he's just been killed be ready for a looong camp. I'd wait awhile IMO, it's just not worth it. Lol. :-P

Well, happy hunting guys. Hope this helps! Ciao :-)

*Edit* Changed "a deadly skeleton sailor" to "a deadly skeletal sailor" and fixed a few grammar errors. :-P

My 11 hour straight camp....
# Apr 14 2003 at 12:13 PM Rating: Default
I camped this guy for 11 hours straight this on 4/12/03. When I arrived at 11:00am he was standing there, so I killed him. He dropped the idol first thing. I walked around clearing everything in the area until his placeholder spawned (A manical zombie or a deadly sailor I think). Killed one PH and he respawned on the next time. I continued killing everything in the area and he popped after another placeholder and I got the symbol. Another PH or two then he popped again. Another symbol this one rotted because nobody came to get it when I offered. I was there for the bow, however. I must admit this was one desirable camp because people kept coming back try to get it. One guy said he had camped it for 5 days in a row.. many hours on end. I then got lazy and stopped clearing the area and waited on him. I literally sat through 8 hours of PH's with him never popping. (Although one skeleton dropped the Sharpened Floatsam 7/18 1hs). I went and cleared the area again and on the second spawn he popped. I beleive clearing the area right before he pops seems to help in making him spawn. I killed everything as far back as the niflik that spawns along the rock wall. The last time he popped I killed him and switched to my cha gear and looted him. This time he dropped the bow and nothing else. I don't know if the cha gear helped but I was desperate to try anything. Any know does cha help with loots.. it seems to help when I played my bard that had high cha. Always seemed to get the better loot with him.

Good luck!
